Just as a famous saying (1)g , "Reading is to success what water is to fish." Reading is very important for all humans. It can open many (2)d and can lead you into a path to success. It's quite clear that every successful person has a good (3)h of reading. This is (4)b reading is an important way to get the information required to understand something. If you want to improve your reading, try to read as (7)m as you can. When you finish reading your first book, take another book and do the same. Giving a speech in front of your class can be challenging. However, you can do something to make it success. First of all, you need to do something about your topic. For example, choose a topic about something you like, such as something that interests you or someone who is close to you. Once you've chosen your topic, try to find useful information about it online or from the library. As you do this, write down the information that supports your ideas in a valuable way.
Rehearsing(排练) your speech is also important. For this, you'd better write the script (讲稿) just like talking to your friends. Keep your script simple. Use interesting examples or stories to show your ideas. Once you finish your script, read it out loud to yourself and remember it. After that, write down 2to 3points that you may forget on a note card. Finally, you have to practice your speech in front of something or someone until you don't have to look at your note card.
In the end, it's time to give the speech. At this time, stand straight and hold your head high. This will show that you're confident. Show your listeners that you're excited by smiling before you begin and throughout the speech. Pause(停顿) after finishing a sentence, or after saying an important point. It will allow you time to collect your thoughts.
If you're out of breath while speaking or if your words start running together, you're most probably speaking too fast. If this happens, take a breath and slow down. While talking, look at your listeners, like friends. What's more, if you don't remember the next word or line, pause for one or two seconds to look at your note card. Before you begin speaking, take a deep breath, smile at your listeners, and then go on.

As you've just found out, opening a book doesn't require much effort. However, even that would be (1)i if you spent the night on the streets.
After lying for hours on cold ground, with only a thin sleeping bag to protect you from rain or ice, your fingers would probably be so numb(麻木的)that you could hardly (2)m them. You'd most likely spend the day trying to find something to cat and somewhere to shelter from the freezing cold.
You might be surprised to hear that the number of people sleeping rough(露宿)in London has doubled in the last five years and has (3)i by 30% across the rest of the country during the last two years.
Once we bring a homeless person out of the freezing cold, we need your help to give him a (4)w welcome at St Mungo's very much.
Will you please give a Christmas gift of £25, which could (5)p a homeless person with a St Mungo's welcome pack? It could have a towel, shampoo, soap(肥皂), so a homeless person can have a hot (6)s and a proper clean up. The difference you could make won't end there. You see, welcoming someone into warmth and safety is just the (7)b . You really could enable someone to change their life for good.
For Harvey, it was losing his job that led to him becoming homeless. Since Harvey was welcomed into St Mungo's, he has received (8)t for his health and so much more. After he took courses in useful life skills, he recently moved into his own flat.
With your gift, you could help us offer a warm welcome to someone (9)l Harvey who's come in from the freezing streets. I'm sure you'll a(10) that's a wonderful present to give at Christmas. I hope you will send £25, or as much as you can, today.
Claude Monet's paintings were quite different from the art styles that were popular in the 1870s France. Traditional artists always did their artwork in a studio and their paintings were realistic﹣they looked exactly like the real world. Claude Monet was part of a group of painters who were called Impressionists(印象派画家). Their paintings were light and a bit fuzzy﹣they gave an impression of what the real world looked like. Sometimes Impressionists worked outside, which was a very unusual thought in their time. Impressionism received its name from an early painting by Claude Monet titled impression, Sunrise.
Knowing that trains were interesting subjects and represented modern progress, Claude Monet created a series of Impressionist paintings of trains from January to March of 1877. He worked on his paintings right on the train platform at the Gare Saint﹣Lazare, the train station on Saint Lazare Street. Although there were many train stations in Paris, this was the first train station built in Paris so it had historical significance(意义).
Monet's friend, Impressionist painter Pierre Auguste Renoir, told the following story to his sons about Claude Monet and painting the trains. Monet needed permission(允许)to spend time on the train platform and paint what he saw in his impressionistic style. One day Monet dressed himself in his very best suit along with a fine top hat, a good linen shirt and a silk tie. He appeared to be a wealthy gentleman while he really was a poor painter.
When he went towards the clerk at the train office, he presented his calling card which introduced him as Claude Monet, Painter. He asked to see the station master. The clerk quickly allowed this fine gentleman to enter the station master's office. The station master was also impressed and gave Monet permission to paint on the train platform. The station master even kept trains from leaving on time so Monet could compete a scene even though passengers complained.
Was it all worthwhile(值得)? Monet's train scenes turned his career into a success and for the station master, made his train station famous until even now.

When we are talking to someone, we tend to change someone else's mind to our way of thinking. And we may often find it difficult to do that. So here are five tips on how to change someone's mind.
The first oneis never to turn the conversation into an argument. It should be a conversation where you show your opinions and the facts that you've collected. By showing them the facts, we want to tell other people that we are right. But emotionally, they may not totally agree with what you say. So when you are trying to change someone's mind, try to keep it as a conversation and not an argument.
The second tipis never to say that you are wrong. If someone makes a statement that you think is wrong, it's better to point it out by saying, "I thought otherwise but I might be wrong, let's look at the facts." The key is to say that you might be wrong, not that you are wrong. This opens up the other person to look at the data again and shows them that you're not bullheaded (顽 固 的) and that you're not going to change your opinion. You're showing them that you are open to new ideas and this is super important in changing someone else's mind to your way of thinking.
Tip number threeis to get the other person saying yes as fast as possible. You may begin your conversation on hobbies that you guys have, something that they're crazy about, something that gets them saying yes. Because the more that you get them to say yes now, the more likely they are to say yes in the future. A conversation like this will get them to start to like you and maybe even more open up to ideas that you have. It builds up trust between the two of you.
Tip number fouris to let the other person do a great amount of talking. If you let them talk more, you're going to show that you actually care about their opinions and ideas, which will earn their respect in the end. By listening to them, you're going to create a friendly relationship and build trust. So when you express your opinions, they will also show a willingness to listen. Never interrupt them when they are talking. Just listen patiently with an open mind, encourage them to talk even more and more so that when it's your tum to talk, they'll listen and say nothing.
The last tipis to let the other person feel like the idea was theirs. It's wiser to make suggestions and let someone else come to the conclusion, then they have a sense of pride that it's their idea. Giving someone the data and letting them come to the conclusion let them feel like it is their idea and they are proud of it.
