America’s Beauty Is in Its Diversity
America is built on the idea of freedom, and there is no exception for Muslim women. I        the freedom of religion and speech. But mostly, I believe it’s OK to be      , and to stand up for who and what you are. So I believe in wearing the hijab.
The hijab is a religious head covering, like a scarf. I am Muslim, and keeping my head covered is a       of maturity(成熟)and respect toward my       and to Allah’s will.      , I also like to wear it to be different. I don’t usually like to do what everyone else is doing. I want to be a(n)      , not just part of the crowd. But when I first wore it, I was also afraid of the       that I’d get at school.
I      on my own that sixth grade was the       I should start wearing the hijab. I was      about what the kids would say or even do to me. I thought they might make fun of me, or       be scared of me and       my headscarf. Kids at that age usually like to be all the same, and there’s little or no       of differences.
On the first day of school, I put all those       thoughts behind my back and walked in with my head held high. I was holding my breath a little, but       I was also proud to be a Muslim, proud to be wearing the hijab, proud to be different.
I was       about everything I had thought the kids would say or even do to me. I actually met a lot of people because of wearing my head covering. Most of the kids would come and ask me questions —    — about the hijab and why I wore it.
I did hear some kids were making fun of me,      there was one girl----she wasn’t even in my class, and we never really talked much---and she spoke       me, and I wasn’t even there! I made a lot of new friends that year, friends that I still have until this very day, five years later.
Yes, I’m different, but everyone is different here, in one way or another. This is the      of America.

“Poetry is not just a        of style. It is also about deep versions of experience that        the emotional to the cognitive(认知的),” said Prof Davis, who will present the findings at the North of England education conference in Sheffield this week.

Personally I think trains are exciting and romantic. I must        that trains are not important means of transportation in the US, but I do have some       with them.
When I was a child, growing up in a small town with very little      , we used to go to the station to watch the passenger trains coming in. There was something           about the steaming, roaring string of cars coming into view around the mountains, slowly growing larger and        and finally     crowds of strangers onto the platform.
I took my        train trip when I was ten years old. I went with my elder sister to visit our cousins six hundred miles away. The train—so loud and violent on the outside—was        and rocking inside. We were very excited, and as that was also our first time away from our parents, we felt somewhat frightened too. However, because I had         so much, I was a little disappointed when I was finally one of the passengers I had        for so long.
As a college student, I       ride overnight train to my roommate’s hometown. We could never afford a       , so we played cards, sang, ate, read and talked       we finally fell uncomfortably asleep in the straight-backed seats.
My idea that trains are        may come from the fact that my husband and I took the train on our honeymoon, spending extra money to eat in the dining car, and        the window as the desert scenery slid past.
Now, when I make a trip, I always fly or drive, and       are not a very important part of my life.       , every time I hear the train whistle faraway on a quiet night, I can always feel the        in my heart to pack my bags and jump on board, entering a        world of motions, sounds, sights, and experience which just aren’t         in the dull environment of an airplane.

Do you know that body language accounts for over 90% of a convention? That's why communicating face to face is always better than a telephone conversation          if you are trying to sell something!

In many Asian cultures, it is not appropriate for men and women to touch in public. Therefore, displays of affection such as            hands or kissing are not         . In some parts of Asia,       , it is common for people of the same sex to hold hands as a sign of          .

The number of jobs for translators and interpreters doubled in the past 10 years while their wages steadily       before, during and after the recession. During a period of stagnating (停滞的) wages across the labor market, the language-service industry with its 50,000 jobs is a       spot in the jobs outlook.

Multinational corporations, U.S. demographic (人口的) changes and the Internet economy raise the need for translated and localized information. Companies increasingly want their content       to the tongue of the town, even between dialects of the same language.
“As more people       the worldwide economy, that’s going to drive more commerce, and that’s going to drive more language services,” said Bill Rivers, executive director of the National Council for Language and International Studies in the Washington region.

Furthermore, the most successful translators and interpreters maintain a      , such as legal documents, quarterly earnings reports or a special knowledge of industry.
Technological advances may cut jobs in some industries, but online translation services like Google Translate         raise demand for human translators and interpreters, experts said. Online sales companies also drive demand for translation.

Joy to the World
Lights, decorations and Christmas trees filled the stores. Many people were there because Christmas was only two days away.
Thirteen-year-old Joy had just       her Christmas shopping. She knew her parents, grandparents so well that finding them         was a piece of cake.
Joy went out of the store and came across her classmate, Nick, the least         student in school because he wore strange clothing and he had a face only a mother could love.
“What are you doing for Christmas?” said Nick with a smile that showed all his yellow teeth.
“I’m opening presents and having dinner with my        ,” said Joy, trying to be polite. “What about you?”

A man stood up with Bible and          the story Joy had learned on her mother’s knee. It was about a baby named Jesus who came to live on Earth to help people who          him.
Joy’s thoughts kept turning back to Nick. It must be         to be lonely on Christmas, a day that celebrated God’s Son coming to Earth. Tears started to run down her       , but she brushed them away.
Joy lay awake that night         everyone else was sleeping like a baby. She was thinking ways to help Nick. As soon as she heard parents get up, she        out of bed. She found them in the kitchen and told them about Nick. Then she asked, “Can we          him over today?” “Sure,” said her mother, who was always happy when        came. Her father smiled.
When Joy called Nick later that day, he was excited. After getting his uncle’s         , he joined them for dinner. To her surprise, Joy enjoyed spending time with him.
Joy came to understand          Christmas cheer is a joy to Nick, even to the whole world.
