If we find a bird nest (巢), we will have a good place of watching and knowing about birds. Birds sit on eggs and take care of their babies from April to June. Because the baby birds are too young to leave the nest, parents often go to look for food and come back in several minutes. So it is good to watch birds. When we watch birds, we'd better hide ourselves in a close place to the nest, and it's better to use binoculars (双筒望远镜).
But how do we make a bird nest? A good bird nest must be very fine, strong, thick and comfortable. If you want to make one, please follow these:
a) Each nest must have six boards (木板) for its cover and floor, for its left and right sides, and for its front and back sides. Don't make the boards too slippery (滑的).
b) Dig a small hole in the front of the nest as a "door". The "door" is big enough so birds can fly in or out easily.
c) Make sure the rainwater can't go into the nest.
d) One piece of the board should be easy to open.
e) Don't forget to colour the nest.
We need ______ near a bird nest if we want to watch and know about birds.
A.a good place | B.some trees | C.to sit on eggs | D.to make a bird net |
When we're watching birds, we have to ______.
A.look after the birds more often | B.use the binoculars to catch the birds |

If you put a buzzard(秃鹰) in a cage without a roof(顶棚), the bird will be a prisoner. Even though it can fly, it can’t fly through the open roof. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of 3 or 4 meters. Without space to run, he will not even try to fly, but will stay in his small jail(监牢) for the rest of his life.
The ordinary bat that flies around at night cannot take off from the ground. If it is placed on the ground, all it can do is shuffle(穿梭) about helplessly. If it reaches a higher place, it will be able to throw itself into the air. Then it takes off quickly. But on flat ground, it will never fly.
A bee dropped into a cup will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but keeps trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will look for away where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.
In many ways, there are lots of people like the buzzard, the bat and the bee. They are struggling with all their problems and frustrations(挫折),not realizing that the answer is right there above them.

SPACE is a lonely place. Hundreds of thousands of kilometers from home, astronauts have a hard life. It stands to reason that, once in a while, they need to have a good cry. But this is a lot harder than it sounds.
We still know very little about space, and about living in zero gravity. In fact, we are discovering new things every time astronauts take to the skies (and beyond). As The Atlantic reported in January, crying is not all that simple in space. This is because when a person normally cries, gravity makes their tears move downwards. But in a spacecraft, this is not the case. Here, there is no gravity, which is why we so often see pictures of astronauts floating around. This means that, strangely, when you cry your tears have nowhere to go. As a result, they just stick to your eyes.
In May 2011, astronaut Andrew Feustel experienced this. “Tears,” as he said, “don’t fall off your eye… they just kind of stay there. ” This can be quite painful. In space, your eyes get very dry, and the added moisture is irritating (气人的). Sometimes, things get even weirder(更怪异的). The astronaut Ron Parise told The Atlantic that when tears get big enough, they “break free of the eye and float around”.
No one can be quite sure why we cry. Why should water in our eyes have anything to do with feeling sad? If you stop to think about it, crying is a very strange thing indeed. And now, thanks to the wonders of space, it just got even stranger.
The first paragraph mainly wants to tell us that .
A.living in space is lonely |
B.it’s easy to feel sad in space |
C.it’s hard to cry in space |
D.nobody wants to live in space |
If astronauts cry in spacecraft, their tears will .
A.move downwards | B.move upwards |
C.go out of the window | D.stick to their eyes |
Astronauts feel if tears are always in their eyes.
A.sad | B.comfortable | C.happy | D.uncomfortable |
What can we learn from the passage?
A.In space our eyes are very wet. |
B.Tears will float around if they are big enough in space. |
C.People know everything about living in zero gravity. |
D.Gravity makes people’s tears move upwards in space. |
Fashions in child-care (儿童保育), as all parents know, come and go. Bottle-feeding or mother's milk? Full-time parental care or a child-minder(儿童保育员)? These problems always trouble the parents a lot. And now, there is a book called Childsplay dealing with the problem of child-care.
The author of Childsplay, Lucy Jackson, believes most school children do some sports at school. And many adults take regular exercise in their free time.
Babies, though, spend most of the time in front of the television or sitting in a push-chair (折叠式婴儿车) or high chair. If the world were a safer place, every child would run around freely, but that is simply not possible. As a result, they become lazy, overweight and unfit.
Ms. Jackson is worried that if small children take no regular exercise, bad habits will continue into adulthood (成人期 ). She suggests that parents should begin exercising with very small babies, moving their legs and arms gently in time to music. As children grow, they should follow and exercise program using soft balls, household furniture and play equipment.
Many experts in child development do not agree. They feel that children will learn to run and jump as they play naturally; they do not need planned exercise. They would not be overweight if they ate healthier food. An increasing number of parents, though, are taking their children to exercise classes. The kids jump around with their mothers to disco music. They seem to enjoy themselves, but it is not at all clear if the classes have any effect on their future development.
According to the passage, the parents do not worry about how to care about their children.
Childsplay is a book about how to take care of the children.
Ms. Jackson doesn't believe babies take enough exercise.
Ms. Jackson encourages parents to take exercise with their babies.
Though we don’t know if the exercise will have any effect on children future development, some mothers have already taken their children to exercise.
