China is a great country with the largest population in the world. In order to solve the population problem, our government decides to have one-child policy. When it is carried out for some time, many people see not only its advantages but also its disadvantages.Therefore,one-child policy has been out of date, and two-child policy has been carried out these days.
If you have a brother or sister, you already know you are different from each other. You live together in the same house and with the same parents, but you have different personalities.
Why is this? One possible reason is the way your parents treat you·
First-born children receive all the attention from their parents. Most families have twice as many photos of a first-born as any other child.Parents usually give first-bores more responsibility(责任)and depend on them to take care of younger brothers and sisters. As a result,first-borns are often responsible,hard-working and serious. They often want to do well at school and work. There are more first-born American presidents…such as George W Bush,George Washington, and Lyndon Baines Johnson---than the second or last-born children.
When a second child arrives, parents usually feel less excited. The second child has to compete with the first-born for the parents’ attention and love. These children often choose different sports and hobbies to do well at school and work, but have to be creative to get their family’s attention. They are often friendly and cool. Many famous talk-show hosts were born last.

Some etiquette(礼仪)in modern life
Do you often use a cellphone? Do you take the subway to school every day? These items make our modern life easier. But do you know how we should behave properly while using them? The following suggestions might be helpful.
For cellphone users
◆Keep your voice down when you make a phone call in public.
Shouting on the phone may make others feel uncomfortable. And you’d better not use it during an appointment(约会).
◆Stop sending messages or playing games with your cellphone at a dinner or a party. It’s a good time to communicate(交流)with your family and friends.
◆Don’t make or answer a call while driving. It is not only very dangerous
for both you and your passengers but also against the law.
For subway passengers
◆You are supposed to wait in line while buying tickets and getting on the subway.
◆You’re not allowed to eat, drink or smoke on the subway train. The smell and noise may trouble others. It’s our duty to keep the train clean and tidy. Besides, smoking is bad for health.
◆ You can’t take pets on the train. As we all know, animals may spread
diseases(传播疾病)and get the train dirty.
◆ You’d better not lie across the subway seats even if the train isn’t crowded. Offering your seat to someone who needs it is regarded as good manners.

It was a dark night. I saw bright light in my neighbor’s kitchen. I thought he could be having a midnight snack so I went back to my bed. Soon, there was a burning smell and I thought something must be wrong. At once, I jumped out of bed and went downstairs to have a look. I saw a fire (火) coming out of my neighbor’s kitchen. I shouted “Fire!” But there was no one nearby to hear my shouts for help. I ran quickly into my own house to call the Fire Department (消防部门) and went back to my neighbor’s house. I knocked (敲) at the door and called my neighbor’s name, but there was no answer. I tried to break into the house and saved a cat and a rabbit. I tried to pour water through the kitchen window but it was no use, the fire is too big. Luckily, a fire engine (消防车) arrived and the firemen put out the fire.
When my neighbor came back, he was sad because his kitchen was burnt down, but he thanked me for calling the Fire Department and for saving his pets.
A week later, my neighbor invited me to his home for dinner. At his new kitchen, he took a photo of me. Later on, he gave me the photo as a present. It made me very happy. Did the writer’s neighbor have a midnight snack that night?

Life as a teenager can be so hard. We are trying not to go wrong or get hurt while still trying to make sense of life. I tell you, I have been there. But, looking back, I will tell you how to enjoy every experience in life. Let this be your little guide to enjoying life as a teenager.
You know, half the problems as a teenager arise because we hate doing things. We’d rather go and have fun than sit down and take care of our duties and responsibilities. That is exactly why you have so much drama in your life; your parents won’t let you have a night-out with friends because you didn’t clean your room or your teacher is threatening to take you to the headteacher because you haven’t finished your homework.
When you go wrong, you go back to bed every night blaming yourself for the mistakes you have made. If you don’t make mistakes, you won’t learn. When you make a mistake, forgive yourself and move on. Don’t repeat them because there isn’t plenty of time to go wrong. Learn from your mistakes and others’, and it will help you to develop your character. Don’t try so hard to be right all the time, or you will not end up being satisfied with yourself.
Most of us want to be popular in school and so, you beg your parents to get you the best clothes, which they obviously don’t. To deal with that situation, I’d say that if your parent is not willing to pay for all those expensive clothes for you, get yourself a part-time job or spend your money wisely. No matter what you do, you should take full responsibility for your own choices. And, instead of trying to be one of the crowd by having similar habits, dare to be different because not everyone does.
Most teenagers often tend to have the blues during the teenage years. If you think that ending your life would be better than dealing with all the depression, you are not alone. All we need is someone to talk to us and listen. So, find a listener. Just talking it through helps get rid of the stress of school, friends and everything else. You shouldn’t really be wasting your time when you time when you could develop your hobbies and interests!
I wish someone had given me all these tips to enjoy life as a teenager. In your teenage years, life is all about experiences and learning from them, so enjoy every bit of it to the fullest.

It is reported that 300 million people in China have eyesight trouble. More and more parents hope to save their children’s eyesight with medicine, or by correcting the ways that children read and sit. But in fact, one should start with the exercise on one’s feet. Here are three ways to save eyes:
First, don’t tie your shoes too closely. Try wearing comfortable and soft socks or walking without socks and shoes at home. While you are traveling, try wearing cloth shoes in order to improve blood circulation (循环).
Second, walking on tiptoes (脚尖) is good for one’s eyesight. It can fight against eyesight trouble. Numbers show that most of ballet performers’ eyesight is better.
Third, rope skipping (跳绳) can also be good for one’s eyesight. While skipping rope, one has to move quickly, making both the brain and the eyes excited. It may also help make one grow taller.
Besides foot exercises, it is good to pull one’s ears. Pulling the ears 20 times quickly is also a great way. It can keep one’s eyes healthy.

Many people would like to watch sport matches. First, you need to know about audience manners.
Most sporting arenas(竞技场)have rules for audience written on the back of the tickets. Read your ticket carefully before you arrive. Try to reach your seat half an hour before the start of the event and don’t leave when a game is in progress. When you have, remember to take away your soft drink bottles and other rubbish.
During exciting games, try to control yourself. Don’t criticize(批评) the performance of players and coaches. Be careful with your words, since some may cause anger among other people in the audience.
Clapping is a special form of body language you can use to communicate with players, but you should do it properly. When players first appear, clap your hands together to welcome them, but don’t go on for too long. After an excellent performance, clap warmly. If someone fails, your clapping will help encourage them.
Clapping is not welcome, however, while players need to keep their attention. Various sports have various rules for the audience.
Enjoying artistic gymnastics (体操)silence. But lots of cheering can really help basketball and football players. When you watch snooker and table tennis matches, flash photography is not allowed. Mobile phones are not allowed in shooting centers.
To be a good audience, you should take time to learn the game—particular rules and related culture of each event.

Did you sleep the day away on March 21? Well, you should have done that because it was World Sleeping Day. This is the one day of the year when people around the world care about their sleep and ask themselves a lot of questions about sleep.
Why do we need sleep? Nobody as yet can give a correct answer to this question. However, tests have shown that lack(缺少)of sleep over about four weeks leads to a strong drop in body temperature, great weight loss and finally sickness.
Different people need different amounts of sleep. Eight hours a night is considered the average amount of sleep. For teenagers the least number of sleeping hours advised by doctors are ten hours for primary school students, nine for junior highs and eight for senior highs.
Some people seem to get along just fine with very little sleep at night. Leading American scientist Thomas Edison said that sleep was a waste of time. He did, however, take naps during the day. On the other hand. Albert Einstein, another great scientist, said he needed at least ten hours' sleep a night.
Here are some of the most useful suggestions, for a good night's sleep:
Go to bed regularly.
Use your bed only to sleep.
Don't exercise in the evening.
Keep the bedroom dark and quiet.
Drink a glass of milk before sleep.
Stop looking at the watch while you can't sleep!

Swans are beautiful birds. You must like their beautiful feathers and beautiful dancing. But how much do you know about them? Do you know that swans belong to the same family as ducks?
Swans are birds of the family Anatidae (鸭科). This family also includes geese (鹅) and ducks. Swans are the largest members of the duck family Anatidae, and are one of the largest flying birds. Swans can fly as fast as 60 miles per hour . Their wingspans can be almost 3 m. The largest swans can reach length of over 1.5 m and weigh over 15 kg. Males are usually bigger and heavier than females.
Swans usually have only one lover for life time. Swans begin breeding(繁殖) between the ages of 3-4. Female swans generally lay five to eight eggs per year, all within days of one another. Their eggs are very big. Some may weigh 400 grams. However, she will not start hatching (孵化) them until the last egg is laid. It takes swans between 35 and 42 days to hatch their eggs .
Swans are beautiful. The swans living in Northern Hemisphere (半球) have white feathers but the ones who live in Southern Hemisphere are black and white. The legs of swans are usually a dark blackish grey colour.
Swans usually live in warm places, always close to some sort of water. Swans feed in the water and on land. They mostly eat plants in the water. Their nests (巢) are on the ground near water and about a metre across. The male helps build the nests.
