Around the world, there are about 7,000 National Parks. Most of them cover huge areas of land where nobody lives. However, the National Parks in England include places where people live and work,as well as wild areas where there are few human activities.
The National Parks in England are called"England's Breathing Spaces"because they are places where people can go to be in the open air, away from the dirt and noise of cities. They provide wonderful scenes of mountains, woods, grasslands and wetlands. And there are plenty of activities to do in all of the National Parks in England.Visitors can walk or ride bikes for fun. Many of the parks put on activities for families.
Every year there are about 110 million visitors to the parks, bringing many benefits(益处) to the
areas. At the same time,it creates problems too.First, life can be difficult for local people.Car parks and roads are too crowded.Gift shops and cafes take the place of many everyday shops.Even house prices in some areas can become too high.Besides, country roads can be damaged, for too many people walk, cycle or ride horses on them.Roads can be rebuilt, but then they look less natural.Another big problem to the National Parks is litter. In the parks it is a danger to wild animals.Broken glass can also cause fires by focusing the rays of the sun.Such fires in wild places can be out of control. All National Parks in England are making more rules, which tell people how to take good care of their environment. If these rules are followed, the National Parks will be well kept and continue to give pleasure to
many people for a very long time.

I'm not the kind of mother who normally brushes her daughter's hair, and my daughter has never liked sitting there, waiting for me to do it.
But today,I've sat my daughter Sally on a kitchen stool(凳子).She's sitting high with her eyes closed, skin still wet from the shower, and her long hair behind her back.I realize she is enjoying the moment. It's the last time for a week that our bodies will connect.Today,I'm sending Sally away for a week of summer camp. This was all my idea. She's nearly 12,and I noticed that I'm with my child nearly 24hours a day.
Living on a farm without any neighbors,I've chosen a life that is quieter than a normal family's.But rather than expecting space away from me,Sally has become increasingly dependent. What frightens me most is that she has become a"mini﹣me",even has the same hobbies, dreams, and opinions as me.That's why I pulled her to the summer camp:a nearby wilderness(荒野)camp called Hawk Circle.
After eating,I drive Sally to Hawk Circle.Once there,we are introduced to her fellow campers.Sally stands by them, holding my hand, horror in her eyes, trying to work up the courage to join a game of soccer."I need you for a few more minutes,"she tells me.I pull her away to walk to one of the camp's workers."Excuse me,"I say loudly,"I'd like to introduce you to my daughter.Maybe you could help her meet a few of these kids."He comes over to talk to Sally, and then I disappear before she realizes it.
It is a hard time for me to drive back. When I arrive home,I calm down and remind myself why I chose this way.I want Sally to have a chance to find herself.I want to learn who she is.If I don't set her free,I fear I'll never really meet her real personality.

To the Editor(编辑)
The Smaller,the Better!
After reading the article"The Benefits(益)of Living Small",I decided that my husband and I should sell our 2500square﹣foot home to move into a 300square﹣foot home.
We have no children, yet we have five bedrooms, three bathrooms, two kitchens, and a huge living room.We can never afford to take time off from work to enjoy the things in life that we really want to,because our bills are so high. But when we downsize,I will be able to leave my job,and won't have to spend hours each week cleaning!
I'm sure our new little home will encourage us to get outside more often, spend more time with friends and family, and make our world more beautiful by using less energy and preventing further urban sprawl(城市扩张).I think all owners of large homes should consider going smaller!
From Jane Adams
I disagree entirely with the one﹣sided article you published last month,"The Benefits of Living Small".
Little homes such as the ones the writer wrote about in the article cost a small part of what normal family homes cost, and our economy(经济)is sure to feel the influence of this. Many educated people will leave their jobs, move to small homes in the countryside, and cities will experience brain drain(人才外流),not to mention all the construction workers who will be left jobless.
The"simple way of life"the writer speaks of in his article is nothing but simple. However, working hard and living in large, comfortable homes is something people all around the world try their best for. Before we give up the American dream,I suggest all readers reconsider selling off their biggest possessions!

Trying to keep a healthy diet?Be sure to read our list of the top four fake(虚假的)health foods first!
Smoothies
They're made with tons of fruit,so they must be healthy, right? What most people don't realize, however,is that these delicious and"healthy"drinks are full of sugar and can have more calories(卡路里)than a large meal! Many smoothies have more than just fruit. Some have ice﹣cream or yogurt. You're really better off making your own smoothies at home with your own fresh fruit and low﹣fat yogurt!
Salad
So you and your friends have stopped at a fast﹣food restaurant for a quick bite.Since you're a healthy person, you decide to get a salad. After all.it's better than anything else there, right?Don't be so sure.Salad toppings such as bacon, cheese, and dressing can make your choice of a meal just as unhealthy as eating a double hamburger.Check the facts before you take a bite.
Cereal(谷物)Bars
A cereal bar may appear to be a healthy snack. After all,the box has a photo of healthy people eating them on a hike. But don't let the packaging(包装)fool you! Many cereal bars have as much sugar and fat as any candy bar.Read the ingredient(成分)list and make sure it's healthy before you buy.
Sushi Rolls
Many people watching their weight prefer light sushi lunches and dinners, but be careful﹣there are some rolls that will influence your diet. Many have mayonnaise(蛋黄酱)and deep﹣fried shrimp, both high in fat. When with soy sauce, sushi rolls become very high in salt. This doesn't mean you have to cut out this delicious Japanese food together, but you do have to be careful with your choices.

There are at least two methods.Induction (归纳法) (as described by Darwin ),or deduction (演绎法)( as described by Einstein). Both methods can produce amazing result. But only when you know which"direction"to go.
The steps are the same. They include:
Theory (理论)=Explaining how things work
Experiment=A way to test what's happening
Observation=Something you notice
Together, these are called the scientific method.
Should you start from the"bottom"by collecting information and facts to prove and seeing where chat leads you? That's induction.Charles Darwin (1809﹣1882 ) supported this method. He spent years observing the appearance and behavior of animals in different places. From this,he created his theory of natural selection:animal and plants can change because of their environment.
Or should you start from the"top"by creating a theory and then seeing how it stands up to real life? That's deduction.Albert Einstein(1879﹣1955)was king here.He began with brave ideas. These theories often took years to prove by experiment.
A few of Einstein's ideas are still being examined.
In history, scientist have been solving problems using different methods. For example, while studying bacteria(细菌).Fleming found that something on bread could kill bacteria harmful to human health. This led him to discover a new medicine.Newton suggested that all objects attract each other. His idea was proved later.
So which way better? That depends. Some researchers do experiment, and only later consider where their results may lead them. That's induction. But deduction needs you to suggest a theory that may or may not be supported by the information and facts. The best scientists are always ready to change methods when necessary.
