Happiness is for everyone. You don’t need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads at their free time.
In fact happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you. W hen you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health. When you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you. When you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy too. All these are your happiness. If you notice them you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy because you have something else that can’t be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can’t say loudly you are very happy because you have more chances to challenge yourselves. So you cannot always say you are poor and you have bad luck. If you take every chance you get, you will be a happy and lucky person. When you fall down in a PE class, both your teacher and your classmates will ______.

I’m Cathy Brown. I am now working for the Sunshine Travel Service in Changsha. I have just come back from Taiwan, the biggest island of China. It is in the Pacific Ocean(太平洋) to the east of Fujian.
Last week, I took a group of French holiday-makers for a week’s trip to Taiwan. We traveled all around the island. There are a lot of places of interest. My favorite is Sun Moon Lake. You may ask why people call it so. If you fly high up over the lake and look down from your plane, you will find the answer yourself. In the middle of this lake, there is a small island that is called Pearl Island because it looks like a pearl. On one side of Pearl Island the lake looks like a sun, and on the other side it looks like a moon. That is why people call it the Sun Moon Lake.
There are many mountains around this lake. One of the nearest is Mount Ali. We stayed there for three days. We also had a dancing party with Gaoshan people. On our first day there we went to the mountain and watched the sun going down slowly in the west. On our last day we got up early and saw the beautiful sunrise(日出).
Taiwan is a wonderful place which is known for beautiful scenery.

We have always been interested in the moon. 2, 000 years ago, people already knew it moves around the earth and where it would be in the sky at different times of the year. At that time, everything about the moon was learned by watching it carefully in the sky.
When scientists could use telescopes to study the moon more closely, their ideas began to change. They could see the moon was made of rocks. Most scientists thought moon rocks would be different from those on the earth. This was because they believed the moon had once been a planet that had been caught in the earth’s gravity millions of years earlier.
In 1969, moon rocks were finally brought to the earth and studied. Much to their surprise, scientists found that, except for water, the moon and the earth were made of the same things. Once again new ideas were needed for this new information.
After years of study, most scientists now think that the moon was once part of the earth. They believe very early in its history, maybe 4 billion years ago, something about the size of Mars hit the earth. This sent billions of rocks into space around our planet. These rocks slowly joined together and after many years became the moon.
In the future, even though our ideas about the moon may change again, we will still be interested in it.
Before 1969 most scientists thought the moon was _____.
A.part of the earth billions of years earlier |
B.older than the earth |

The workers who brought the girl to the orphanage(孤儿院) knew little about her. The street where they found her had been her home for many years. Her parents were unknown. They left her long ago. At the orphanage, the girl, like all the children there, was taught to read and write. While she was studying at the orphanage, she learned something else-to be independent(独立). At twenty-one, she left the orphanage and began to work as a secretary. And then, in 1975, while she was still working as an ordinary secretary, something special happened. She entered the Miss Hong Kong Competition and won it. This was the turning point in her life. Now her name, Mary Cheung, was known to everybody.

Luckily, she had a boyfriend (who later became her husband) to help her.
Mary studied management(管理) at Hong Kong Polytechnic and graduated in 1980. She started her own business in 1985. But she did not stop developing herself. She then studied at the University of Hong Kong. Since 1987, she had spent a lot of time on photography(摄影). She has held several exhibitions of her works in many places-China, New Zealand and Paris. She still found time, however, to work on TV, write for newspapers and support her family.

Maybe most people know that there is water pollution, air pollution and noise pollution around us, but few people know that there is another kind of pollution—light pollution. In fact, it can be everywhere, depending on the time of the day.
Light pollution is the result of the wasted energy. Instead of providing light for people on the earth, most bright light shines into the sky, because people don’t design lights very well. At the same time, lights are brighter than necessary. All these cause light pollution. Stars in the night sky always provide everyone with wonderful sights(景色), but light pollution prevents them from being seen.
Some scientists say that light pollution can also bring some health problems to people, especially to kids. So it’s the high time for us to do something useful to stop light pollution.

Can animals be made to work for us? Some scientists think that one day animals may be taught to do a number of simple jobs. They say that in a film or on TV .We may see elephants, or monkeys, dogs, bears, or other animals doing a lot of things. If you watch carefully, you may find that those animals are always given something to eat in return(作为回报) for doing them. In the modern world, pressure is a serious problem. Today, most student are under too much pressure. Some students can’t get on well with their classmates. While others may worry about their tests. Even they can't get enough and good sleep. I’m always under pressure, too.
How can we solve the pressure problems? Here are my suggestions.
The first, tell your pressure to someone. I think a conversation with parents or teachers is necessary to solve the problem. We can talk our problems with our teachers or parents. My parents want me to be the top student in class. So they send me to all kinds of training classes at weekends. I feel tired and unhappy. Last Monday evening, I had a talk with my mother. The second, learn to relax yourself. I think the most important way to relieve us from our pressure is to learn to relax ourselves. In order to relax ourselves, we can turn to some of our hobbies and interests. Different students have different ways. For example, we can listen to music, watch TV, or read some books. But for me I often exercise. I enjoy it. I think taking exercise can not only rest our brains and eyes but also help build our bodies. I think sports are really helpful to both my health and my study. We can also go for a trip. We can visit somewhere beautiful and peaceful to relax. And we can get close to the nature. Why does the writer feel tired and unhappy?
