Dear Amy
How are you? Mum, Dad and I went to Thailand last week. We had a great time!
We arrived at the airport early on Friday morning. I chose a window seat on the plane. I could see the clouds clearly from the window. They looked soft and shiny. Four hours later, we landed in Thailand. We stayed at a hotel in Pattaya on our first day. We went to the beach. We played different water sports there. We had so much fun! We were tired when we got back to the hotel.
On the next day, we went to Bangkok. We visited two temples there. They looked like golden bells with pointed tops. We took some photos outside the temples and had a walk in the gardens. In the evening, we had dinner at a restaurant next to a lake. The food was very spicy so I kept drinking cold water!
On the last day, we hung out at a shopping mall. Mum bought a beautiful tea set. Dad bought some T-shirts and I bought some dried mangoes (芒果干). We went to the airport after lunch. I was lucky because I got a window seat again. This time I could see the beautiful sunset (日落).
We enjoyed the trip very much. I hope we will go on another trip again soon.

The koala is small and cute. It spends most of its lifecycle (生命周期) in the trees. It eats, sleeps and nurses (养育) its baby there, and it only comes down to the ground if necessary. The koala is loved by many people for its small size and cartoon-like feature.
A mother gives birth and raises only one baby koala at a time. During the mother’s lifecycle, she will produce up to six baby koalas. A newborn baby koala does not look like an adult because it is born blind with undeveloped features.
After the baby koala is born, it makes its way to the mother’s pouch (育儿袋) and lives inside. Then it develops its eyes, legs and fur. In fact it lives in the mother’s pouch for about six months.
At last the baby koala gets out of its mother’s pouch, and the mother carries her baby on her back. Some baby koalas want to use the safety of the pouch longer than necessary, but their size is too big for them to climb back inside. When the next baby koala is born, it is time for last season’s baby to say goodbye.

Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true.
Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here are some advice for you to bridge the generation gap (消除代沟).
Don’t argue (争辩) with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express yourself well if you are angry. Go someplace to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.
Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.
Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect (尊敬) to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.
Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.
A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try!

Your parents probably won’t consider your ideas if you _______.

D.express yourself well

From the passage we learn that _______.

A.parents and children should not have a generation gap
B.parents should show love and respect to their children

D.there are so many serious problems in families today

Most children don't enjoy doing housework. They like playing computer games instead of cleaning the rooms. But in Australia, Jim and Robert's mother, Mrs. Black, has good and proper methods to get their children to do housework.
Here is an example.
“Mom, have you worked out next week's housework? Let Jim and me choose the cards. I can't wait. It's fun!”
When Robert shouted out, his mother had already put all the cards on their big table. On the cards, there are some words like these, “sweep the floor, clean your bedroom, help mom cook, wash vegetables, make beds, feed the fish, cut the wood, clean the bathroom” and many others. Jim and Robert chose two cards for each day from Monday to Friday. Then they would hang them on the weekday task board. Jim likes to clean the bathroom best, so he picked up the card “clean the bathroom” first. Robert loves to make the bed so he picked up his favorite card. Jim again picked up “wash vegetables” and Robert chose “feed the fish”. Soon the two boys were happy to take away all the cards.
To help the children do housework, their mother thought hard and thought up this idea. Of course, their parents did the housework on the weekends and left Jim and Robert two days free.

Once there was a man travelling in a faraway village. As he was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped. He found that these huge elephants were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains(锁链), no cages. It was clear that the elephants could, at any time, break away from their ropes but for some reason, they did not.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and didn’t try to get away. “Well,” the trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they still believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can hold them, so they never try to break free.”
How could it be? These animals could at any time break free from their ropes. But because they were always stuck(固定) right where they were, they believed they couldn’t.
Just like the elephants, how many of us go through life believing that we cannot do something, just because we failed at it once before?
We should never give up the struggle(斗争) in life.
Why do the elephants never try to break free from the ropes?

A.Because they think they can not..
B.Because they are too old to do it.
C.Because they like their living places.
D.Because they get on well with the trainer.
