If you're having a hard time getting along with your new teacher, going to class can be a bad time. But you really want to get good grades, what should you do? Here are some suggestions for you.
Talk to your teacher. A short discussion can clear up the clouds between two persons. Always be polite and show admiration. Express yourself bravely and show the ideas from your heart.
Ask your teacher how you can do well in class. Teachers have years of education and experience in the subjects they teach. Learning more about this fact helps make a good relationship between you and your teacher. Discussing the best ways to succeed in class shows your teacher you care about the class.
Learn to understand his teaching method. Sometimes, the reason why you don't like your teacher is the way he runs the classroom. If you're used to a very relaxing class, learning to develop in a strict environment is difficult. In fact, giving yourself time to accept this new style of teaching is possible.
Take part in activities with your teacher.Studies show that teachers would like to pay attention to you,if they feel you have something in common. For many tests and exams, you are tested on your abilities to communicate successfully. In order to speak English fluently, you need to think in English. If you don't, your speech will be slow and it won't sound natural. Here are some things you can do to practice thinking in English.
•Look at objects around your home and school, and think of what they are called in English. Try to make a direct connection between the object and the English word.
•When you are out in a public place, practice describing the things and people you see in your mind. For example, think,"There is a man walking down the street. He's wearing a suit.I think he is going to work." Try to think in English first, not in your first language.
•When you have to say something in English, think first and ask yourself," What words and phrases do I know in English that I can use in this situation?" Try not to think in your first language and translate your ideas into English. If you do, you will get frustrated very quickly.
Try these tips and you'll soon find that you are thinking in English.

Public speaking is one of the top three fears among adults in both the UK and the US. Here are some suggestions that deal with some of the most common problems people experience with public speaking.
Invite the attention in
Do you hate that moment when you stand up in front of a group to speak and everybody looks at you?① . It's a sign that people are interested and want to hear what you have to say. Welcome those looks!
Beat the brain freeze
Have you ever been in the middle of speaking and suddenly……brain freeze!② . It is possible that you forgot something for the moment. And you are holding your breath! All you need to do is to trust yourself, clear your mind, focus and breathe. The thoughts will come rushing back to your mind in no time. Phew!
Increase your confidence
Use this exercise to get in touch with the "naturally confident (自信的) you" inside. Close your eyes and remember a special time you felt really relaxed and confident. Imagine the feeling of relaxation rushing through your whole body. It will pass information to your brain that you are confident and happy.③ Whether you are someone who just wants to move from good to great with your speaking, or someone who feels too afraid to stand up and speak, the great news is that you can move forward, be relaxed, and turn into a great speaker.④
(2)Write down another suggestion on how to become a good speaker. (答案不多于5个单词)

Where you sit and how you fit
(1) For more than seventy years, researchers and teachers have studied the link between the place where students choose to sit in class and what they are like as people and learners.Where do you usually decide to sit? Have you ever really thought about the reasons for your decision?
(2) But is this really true? Well, some researchers say it is not.In fact, shy students often choose the back row because it is far away from the teacher and they don′t want to answer questions,At the back, students probably won't speak much, but in big classrooms,it can be hard to see the board and hear what the teacher is saying. This could be the reason why students who sit here often get lower grades on tests and exams. For students with poor eyesight or hearing,a seat at the back of the classroom is not a good choice.
(3) However, they like watching and listening rather than joining in.These students are usually also very good at taking notes.Next time you miss a class, borrow notes from someone who sits here.On the sides of the classroom you will generally find modest and thoughtful people. These people usually get good grades in school and are interested in learning.
(4) Then the statistics(统计数据) say you probably like your teacher. You probably also have a good relationship with your classmates.Caring, outgoing, and cheerful people usually sit in the middle. They are normally serious about learning and feel disappointed with low grades on tests and exams.
(5) Students who sit here usually want to discuss things with the teacher and are often very interested in the subject. They want to be in the best place to see and hear everything the teacher does and says. The only problem with sitting here is that it can be difficult to see and hear what other students do and say in class.
So, if you really want to hear what everyone says in class, choose a different place to sit.
A.You probably sit right at the front of the class if you're longing for knowledge.
B.Research suggests that the seat you choose in the classroom says a lot about you and your personality.
C.Do you sit in the middle of the classroom?
D.This means it's a good idea to sit in a different place every day.
E.People often think that students who sit at the back are lazy.
F.Students who sit at the side of the classroom are normally interested in class.
Do you enjoy hitting the books? It doesn't mean you enjoy beating your books with your hand. That may be reasonable if you don't understand something inside your books. This is just one example of expressions that can't be understood by taking them apart(分开)word by word. Expressions like this are called idioms(习语). They are an important part of a culture's language. Languages and cultures are closely connected. One example of an idiom in the Chinese language is "dui niu tan qin", or "to play the lute(拨弦乐器)to a cow." (2)这意味着某人在说话或写作时不考虑其听众或读者.
Let's get back to idioms that begin with the word "hit". (3)There are many of them in English, but it's not that easy for you to understand.
One common idiom you may hear in English is "hit the road". It means to leave or to go. You can say, "Hey, I need to hit the road. Can we talk about this another time?" Or simply, "It's time to hit the road." When you are tired and you want to go to bed, you can say, "I need to hit the hay(干草)." It means you want to go to sleep.(4)That's because a bed was often a big bag with hay inside in the past.

I am Canadian. I started learning French when I was 10 years old. But my whole experience with the language was in the classroom. All of that changed, however, during my last summer of high school. As a 17﹣year﹣old girl, I flew across the country by myself for the first time! I headed for Quebec to live in the province with a French﹣speaking host family, who didn't speak any English. And I would learn French at a local school.
On the first day of school, all of us students were given a test to determine(测定)our language level. We were required to speak only French all summer.
I made every effort to communicate in a second language by making new friends, seeing movies and even ordering food from restaurants in French. Though I couldn't understand most of it at the very beginning, the whole experience was exciting and refreshing.
On weekends, my classmates and I took trips to different places around the province. On one trip, we went whale watching on the St. Lawrence River. Even though it was raining, we could see huge whales swimming around our boat. The most memorable part of our trip was a visit to historic Quebec City. I walked along the stone streets, took pictures of the European﹣style(欧式的)buildings, and learned some stories there.
Finally my efforts paid off! At the end of the summer, I was able to communicate pretty well. I couldn't wait to go back to school and talk with my French teacher. Being fully immersed(沉浸)in a French﹣speaking environment was a valuable learning experience. And it could be the main reason for my improvement in French.
(1)When did the writer fly alone for the first time?
(2)How did the local school determine the students' language level?
(3)Did the writer enjoy the experience of communicating in French?
(4)What did the writer think of the visit to historic Quebec City?
(5)What could be the main reason for the writer's improvement in French?
Summer is here. One of the best ways to cool off on a hot summer day is to jump into a swimming pool. Swimming is great exercise, and a trip to a pool or beach is a good way to have fun with friends.(1) , so it's important to stay safe as you do it. Here are a few things you can do to swim safely.
Swim only in areas set for swimming.
Don't swim unless there is a lifeguard(救生员)on duty. If you're on a beach near the ocean, this is especially important. In some places, fast currents(急流)can sweep swimmers away without warning. So if a sign says "no swimming", please take care.
Be careful when diving(跳水)into the water headfirst.
Most pools have deep ends where diving is safe. In natural water, don't dive unless you know that the water is deep enough.(2) , causing injury(伤害)or death.
Make sure you have a partner with you.
Nobody knows what will happen while you are swimming. If something goes wrong, you can get help from that person as soon as possible. In this situation,(3) .
Pay close attention to children's safety.
Kids who don't know how to swim should wear life jackets. But by themselves they are not enough,(4) . If you have a pool at home, put a fence(围栏)around it in case children fall in. And if a child disappears, check the pool first.
Recently, a junior high school sent several students back home because they broke the school uniform(校服)rules. Should students wear school uniforms? The Young World magazine held a discussion on this topic(话题).
Kennedy: The school uniform is very important, because it always reminds me that I am supposed to go out of my way to study hard. It also helps prevent school bullying(欺凌). If everyone wears the same clothes, it is impossible to laugh at other people's clothing.
Manson: The uniform has to be earned(获得)through efforts. Students should start school with no uniforms. As they make progress at school, they start wearing it. I always think children need to be proud of their school. The uniform is important for that. So, make students earn it! If they don't perform well, they should not be allowed to get one.
Moorhead: In my opinion, kids don't have to wear uniforms. There should be more choices open to kids in education. They ought to develop their own independence and just be themselves.
Their personalities would be expressed through their own clothes at school. And different dress could be one way of showing their understanding of beauty. Besides, they make the school lively and colorful.
Patrick: I can see the advantages of wearing school uniforms. They play a very important role in managing schools. However, a school should not depend heavily on uniforms to improve students' behaviors. Teaching them how to express themselves with confidence(信心)is more important.

Learning a new language is hard. In recent research, scientists found that your
chances of reaching fluency(流利) in a new language drop off at the age of 10. Does that mean you should give up your French class if you are older than 10? No!
The research found that it's "nearly impossible" to reach fluency if you start learning a language after age 10. That's not because your language sills start to get worse. "You're still learning fast," says Joshua. "It's just because your ability to learn starts dropping at around 10 or 11 years old."
The researchers say people who try to learn a new language after 10 may still become quite good. But they will probably not become fluent. Kids may better than adults at learning new languages for many reasons. One is that children's brains are more adaptable(能适应的) than adults' brains. This means they are better able to change. Kids may also would like to try new things. And adults may depend on the rules of their first language. But kids are able to accept a new language without them.
(1)Why is it difficult to reach fluency if we start learning a language after age 10?
A. Our ability to learn starts dropping.
B. We can't learn fast any more.
C. Our language skills start to get worse.
(2)Why are adults worse than kids at learning a new language?
A. Adults' brains are more adaptable.
B. Adults like to try new things.
C. Adults may depend on the rules of their first language.
(3)Who would become more fluent in learning a new language?
A. Mary, 8 years old.
B. Tom, 18 years old.
C. Jenny, 42 years old.
