When your town has winter, the earth's axis(轴) is pointing away from the sun.Your town doesn't get as much light or heat from the sun.The days are shorter and colder.
Winter and summer happen because the earth is tilted(倾斜) as it revolves around the sun.The northern end of the earth's axis points towards the sun in summer. You have more hours of light in summer.Your part of the earth is towards the sun for more hours each day. When the part of the earth where you live is towards the sun,you have hotter days.In winter, when your part of the earth points away from the sun,you have colder days.
You have learned about winter and summer. There are two more seasons in the year. One comes after winter and before summer. The other season comes after summer and before winter. Can you name them? That's right.Spring comes between winter and summer and autumn comes after summer but before winter.
The four seasons are spring, summer, autumn and winter.Spring and autumn are opposite seasons.Which season do you like best?
You have thought about the four seasons of the year. Each season is different. The seasons are made by the northern end of the axis pointing towards or away from the sun.
Your part of the world gets more heat from the sun when the northern end of the axis points to the sun. When the axis points away from the sun,you get less heat. Now you know why winter is colder than summer. The axis is pointing away from the sun in winter. It is pointing towards the sun in summer.

The invention of barcodes(条形码)is based on a very simple idea.We only need to give each product a specific number and print it. (1) We could simply print the number itself. But this can cause problems. For example,an unclearly printed "seven" could look like a "one" to a computer. It's also true for "three" and "eight". (2) We need a better way of printing numbers so that they can be read correctly at high speeds. That's the problem barcodes solve.
Each number in a barcode is shown by seven blocks of the same size. (3) For example, the number "one" is shown in turn by two white stripes(条),two black stripes, two white stripes, and one black stripe.(4)
A barcode includes different parts and each one provides a specific meaning. The first part of a barcode tells you the country where the product was made. For example,690—692 is the barcode for China. (5) .The final part is about the product itself. This is how barcodes work.
A.Then computers can read it directly. B.All information can be shown by barcodes. C.The next part tells you who produced the product. D.And "nine" looks similar to "six" if you turn it upside down. E.Even if you turn it upside down,it isn't similar to any other number. F.These are colored either black or white to show the number zero to nine. |

Protecting the Habitats of Chimpanzees
Chimpanzees are not only social animals living in communities and work together, but they are smart in many different ways. For over 40 years, people have been studying chimps both in the wild and in captivity. One thing they have learned is that chimpanzees and their natural habitats﹣or where they live in the wild﹣need to be protected.
In 1960,a researcher named Jane Goodall began to live with and study wild chimpanzees in Africa. She learned that they are highly intelligent animals that communicate with gestures and physical contact. They make tools to find food, they possess innate decision﹣making skills, and they make choices about which groups to join and what foods to eat.Chimps cooperate to hunt and often share the food they have caught. In captivity, where they live in zoos and science centres, they can be taught American Sign Language so that they can communicate with their hands. There have even been experiments which show that a few chimpanzees have learned to use computers and to play games! Some scientists argue that chimpanzees can show emotions such as happiness or sadness.
Although chimpanzees are impressive and intelligent animals, their safety is in danger every day.In the wild they can be found in 21 different African countries, living in forests.Chimpanzees are able to adapt(适应) to changes in their environment. They can move to a new place, make new nests, and find new foods.Yet people are destroying their natural habitats.By cutting down trees for firewood and using the space to build houses, humans leave chimpanzees with smaller areas to live in.
Chimpanzees are in danger, and all eyes should be on them. Fortunately many organizations and researchers have started to take steps to protect them.Everyone should be aware of their work and it is important to help these amazing animals.
