My kids and I were heading into the supermarket over the weekend. On the way ,we spotted a man holding a piece of paper that said, "1my job. Family to Feed."

At this store, a2like this is not normal. My 10-year-old noticed him and make a3on how bad it must be to have to stand4in the cold wind.

In the store, I asked each of my kids to5something they thought our "friend" there would6. They got apples, a sandwich and a bottle of juice. Then my 17-year-old suggested giving him a7. I thought about it. We were8on cash ourselves, but… well, sometimes9from our need instead of our abundance is10what we need to do! All the kids11something they could do away with for the week.

When we handed him the bag of12, he lit up and thanked us with13eyes. When I handed him the gift card, saying he could use it for14his family might need, he burst into tears.

This has been a wonderful15for our family. For days the kids have been looking for others we can16! Things would have played out so17if I had simply said, "No, we really don't have18to give more." Stepping out not only helped a brother in19, it also gave my kids the20taste of helping others. It'll go a long way with them.

When 24-year-old Hannah Brencher moved to New York after college, she was hit by loneliness. One day she felt so        that she want to reach out to someone. And so she put pen to paper and started writing letters-letters to complete        .
But these weren’t            letters about how she was feeling. There were happy letters, all about the other person, not her. She would write messages for people to have a “              day " and tell strangers how brilliant they were,      they thought no one else had noticed. Brencher began dropping the      all over New York,in cafes,in library books,in parks and on the subway. It made her         letter, knowing that she might be making somebody’s          through just a few             words. It gave her            to focus on. And so,The Word Needs More Love Letters was born.
The movement is all about               letters—not emails, but handwritten letters. Not           love letters, written to a real beloved, but           letters for strangers. They don’t necessarily say “I love you”,but they  are       .  kindness—telling people they are remarkable and   15   and all-round amazing. It’s the sort of stuff that most people don’t really say out loud even to the people they            ,let alone a total stranger.
Brencher’s initiative(初衷) has now            .There are more than 10,000 people who join in all over the world. Last year, she gave a talk. In it,she talked about a university student who dropped letters around her campus, only to suddenly            everyone was writing them and there were love letters hanging from the trees.
It’s a very cute idea. I know that if I was on the             end of a letter like that,it almost certainly would put a             on my face. So I decided to give it a try and see if I could do the same for someone else.

I smiled at him and asked, “Do you like boxing?”
He replied with a very shy         on his face, “Yes, boxing is alright.”

My class and I visited Chris Care Center in Phoenix, Arizona to comfort the old people who needed a little cheering up during the holiday season.
The first two               there were for persons requiring help in taking care of themselves. We sang          for them. They loved our sweet songs and the flowers that we left with them. As we were           on the third floor for old people with Alzheimer (老年痴呆症), most of them          off at the walls or floor. However, one lady           my eye. She was sitting by the door, in a wheelchair, singing songs to herself. They weren’the songs that we were singing, at least they didn’t        like that. As we got           with each festive song, she did as well. The louder we got, the louder she got.        she was singing, she was also           out to us with her hands and body. I knew that I should have gone over to her, but I thought that my        were to my students. People who worked at the care center could              to her, I thought. Just when I stopped feeling        about not giving her the attention she needed, one of my students, Justin, showed me what the holiday season is really about.
Justin also       the same lady. The difference between us is that he        on her needs, but I didn’t. During the last song, “Silent Night,” Justin walked over to her and held her hand. He looked this aged lady in her         and with his actions said, “You are important, and I will take my        to let you know that.” This tired, elderly lady stopped singing and held his hand. Then she touched his cheek with the other hand. Tears began to fall down her face. No         can completely describe that touching moment...
It         a boy to teach me, a man, about kindness and love. Justin’s example of a complete, selfless attitude toward another was a     that I will never forget. He was the teacher that day, and I consider myself         to have witnessed his lesson.来

Not being sure where I want to start this, I will say that I lost my mom back in April of this year. She was ninety-two.      , I was not expecting her to       and I don’t think she was expecting it either. I was very close to my mom, being an only child. We did have        on the surface, but we still had a close relationship        those.
Being newly married less than a year, and having moved a couple of times       , I have had more changes recently in my life than at any other point of my fifty-four years. Stability is one of the gifts that Mom        me and it had so many        that I wasn’t aware of until now. My husband and I have made some        to Mom’s home and will be moving at the end of next week. It is now our home, but it still has my        heart in it. It’s where I grew up, and there are many       that will live there with us. At the same time, I am looking forward to       some very happy and memorable ones with my husband.
Mom       such a big part in my life. Our lives were        woven because she gave me her values which have become strongly          in the woman I am today. I don’t have any children whom I could          these on to. However, Mother’s values affect me every day with the        I have with others, whether I know them or not. I hope Mom would be        of who I am, what I’ve become because of her, and of        I am going to live with my       . She gave me everything I needed to know in life: respect others, and give help to others who        it most. I love you, Mom, and I will never forget you.
