Suppose someone gave you a pen---a sealed(密封的),solid‑coloured pen. You couldn’t see how much 21 it had. It might run dry 22 the first few tentative (试探的) words or last just long and make a difference in the scheme of things. You don’t know when the ink will 24 .
Under the rules of the game, you really never know. You have to 25 a chance! Actually, no rule of the game states you must do anything. 26 picking up and using the pen, you could leave it on a shelf or in a drawer where it will dry up, 27 .But if you do decide to use it, what would you 28 it? How would you 29 the game?
Would you plan and plan before you ever 30 a word? Would your plans be so extensive that you never didn’t even start 31 ? Or would you take the pen 32 ,plunge right in and Just do it, struggling to keep up 33 the twists and turns of the torrent (急流)of words that take you where they take you?
Would you write cautiously and 34 ,as if the pen might run dry the next moment, or would you pretend to believe that the pen would write forever and go on accordingly?
And what would you write about:Love? Hate? Fun? Misery? Life? Death? Nothing? 35 ?
Would you write to 36 just yourself? Or others? Or yourself by writing about others?
Would you even write? Once you have the pen ,no 37 says you have to write. Would you sketch? Scribble(潦草地写)?Doodle(涂鸦)or draw? Would you stay in or on the 38 ,or see no lines at all, even if they 39 there? There’s a lot to think about here, isn’t there?
Now, 40 someone gave you a life…

I work as a volunteer(志愿者)for an organization that helps the poor in Haiti. Recently I took my son Barrett there for a week, hoping to 36 him.
Before setting out, I told Barrett this trip would be tiring and 37. For the first two days, he said almost nothing. I worried the trip was too 38 for a 17-year-old. Then, on Day three, as we were 39 over high rocky mountains, he turned to me and grinned(咧嘴笑), “Pretty hard. ”
After that there was no turning back. A five-year-old girl, wearing a dress several sizes 40 large and broken shoes, followed Barrett around, mesmerized (着迷). He couldn’t stop 41 . Later he said 42. “I wish I could speak French.” I was 43-this from a boy who hated and 44 French classes throughout school.
Usually silent, he 45 Gaby, our host, and kept asking questions about the country and its people. He blossomed(活泼起来).
46 , the moment that really took 47 breath away occurred in a village deep in the mountains. I was 48 a woman villager for an article. 135 centimeters tall, she was small in figure but strong in 49 . Through determination, she had learned to read and write, and 50 to become part of the leadership of the 51 .
Learning her story, Barrett was as 52 as I by this tiny woman’s achievements. His eyes were wet and there was a 53 of love and respect on his face. He had finally understood the importance of my work.
When leaving for home, Barrett even offered to stay 54 as a volunteer. My insides suddenly felt struck. This 55 achieved all I’d expected. Soon he will celebrate his 18th birthday. He’ll be a man.

What kind of person becomes an addict? Someone 21 , with a lot of friends; or someone who is 22 from the rest, with only a few friends, or none at all? The 23 I am trying to make is that anyone can become an addict.
The only way that I 24 this out was by becoming an addict myself. I used to be a guy who was 25 in the popular crowd. Right before high school began, I started being 26 by most of my friends. I realized I could not live this way; I must stop the 37 of using drugs.
Since then, my 38 and actions have changed and so has my direction in life. I do see a future in water skiing. 39, I haven’t killed my chance in 40 . I know that I must keep a clear head first. Keep Coming Back. It works if you work it.

To my family and friends,
I have just started my tour of the area badly affected by the war. Everything is going really well, so no 16 . The land is beautiful but unfortunately it has a lot of 17 too. Let me 18 .
Last week, 120 school girls were 19 by a gas leak(泄漏). Most have recovered but six are still in 20 . Even though the local government speaks about the 21 of education, most of the kids here only attend school for four hours a day if they are lucky. They are so excited and 22 to learn, but then have to 23 things like being attacked. Most of these kids are 24 and can’t afford a pencil or even paper. So I’m planning a trip to several schools to talk about 25 and to give these kids some of the 26 they need. That is where all of you can help. If you can 27 whatever school supplies you have available, that would be 28 appreciated.
I know how busy you are so thank you for taking the 29 to do this and I will post pictures of this 30 after I return.
Thank you again.

We should show respect to everybody, especially our elders because they are ahead of us — in age, in wisdom and maturity, in experience and education. Our 36 have done a lot for us, directly or indirectly and most of us 37 everything to their kindness and love.
When we 38 them respect, whether it is by bowing to them, or 39 them with a smile, or offering them any help they need, it is one way of 40 our own love and gratitude to them. 41 , elders have also been through all the years you are 42 and know a little more about the world than you do.
It is 43 that you do not agree with the belief of your elders, but this is nothing new. All younger generations have always 44 with their elders and it is these differences that bring changes in human 45 . However much you disagree with them, give them credit for their 46 .
With changing times and 47 influences, youngsters no longer know what is interpreted as disrespect to elders. Youngsters should 48 express their views and if there are arguments, they should not 49 their voices.
If there is no space on sofas or chairs, children will immediately 50 their places, and sit on the carpet. In buses and trains, youngsters are 51 to give up their places to older people. This is not a 52 of who has more rights. It is simply that those who are younger have the strength to bear 53 , or tolerate unpleasantness, so it is natural to show consideration to those who are older and perhaps at a 54 disadvantage.
When you do simple things as a mark of respect, elders become 55 that youngsters care for them, and they respond with affection and kindness.

Dear son,
The day that you see me old and I am already not in good health, have patience and try to understand me.
If I get dirty when eating, if I can not dress, have patience and remember the hours I 36 teaching it to you. If, when I speak to you, I 37 the same things thousand and one times, do not 38 me, listen to me. When you were small, I had to read to you thousand and one times the same story 39 you got to sleep. When I do not want to have a 40 , neither shame me nor scold me. Remember when I had to chase you with thousand excuses I 41 , in order that you wanted to bathe. When you see my 42 little about new technologies, give me the necessary time and do not look at me with your mocking(嘲弄) smile. I taught you 43 to do so many things: to eat good, to dress well, to confront life…. When at some moment I lose the memory or the 44 of our conversation, let me have the necessary time to remember, and if I cannot do it, do not become nervous, as the most important thing is not our conversation but surely to be with you and to have you 45 to me.
If ever I do not want to eat, do not force me. I know well 46 I need to and when not. When my 47 legs do not allow me to walk, give me your 48 , the same way I did when you gave your first 49 . And when someday I say to you that I do not want to 50 any more ---- that I want to rest forever, do not get angry. Someday you will understand.
Try to understand that my age is not lived but survived. Some day you will discover that, 51 my mistakes, I always wanted the 52 thing for you and that I tried to prepare the way for you. You must not feel sad, angry or impotent(无可奈何) for seeing me 53 you. You must be next to me, try to understand me and to help me as I did it when you 54 living. Help me to walk, help me to end my way with love and 55 . I will pay you by a smile and by the immense love I have had always for you.
I love you, Son.

When my oldest son was in high school, he planned to attend a Christian contemporary concert with the youth group from our church. To my 36 , Aaron invited me to go along. My husband 39 me to attend the concert, promising he would take care of our youngest. I hesitated.
Finally, it 40 me. Aaron was sixteen years old. How many 41 would I have to do something fun with him 42 he went away to college? And how many youth actually 43 their mothers to attend a concert with them that was clearly for teens? The 44 was made. I would not miss this opportunity.
At the concert, I sat with Aaron in the third row, stuffing (填塞) cotton in my ears to block out the 45 , ear-splitting music of the first performer. I stood when the kids stood, clapped when they clapped, and never let anyone know how 46 I was to feel the floor vibrate (震动) beneath my feet. Aaron and his friends were 47 at my enthusiasm.
By the time we left the concert, my ears were ringing, but it quickly passed. 48 did my son's teenage years. 49 he was in college and away from home. I missed him more than I could say. On days when I was especially 50 for his ready smile and his teasing manner, I would think back to the concert we attended and be thankful once again that I didn't 51 an opportunity to spend time with my son.
Aaron is now grown and has a family of his own, but we are still very 52 . Some days he calls just to 53 and tell me about his day. I drop everything and 54 the moment, knowing these times too shall 55 .

People do not analyze every problem they meet. Sometimes they try to remember a solution from the last time they had a 21 problem. They often accept the opinion or ideas of other people. Other times they begin to act without 22 ;they try to find a solution by trial and error. 23 .,when all of these methods 24 ,the person with a problem has to start analyzing. There are six 25 in analyzing a problem.
26 the person must recognize that there is a problem. For example, Sam's bicycle is broken, and he cannot ride it to class as he usually does. Sam must see that there is a problem with his bicycle.
Next the person must 27 the problem. Before Sam can repair his bicycle, he must know why it does not work. For example, he must determine the parts that are wrong.
Now the person must look for 28 that will make the problem clearer and lead to possible solutions. For example, suppose Sam 29 that his bike does not work because there is some thing wrong with the brakes(刹车). 30 , he can look in his bicycle repair book and read about brakes, 31 his friends at the bike shop, or look at his brakes carefully.
After studying the problem, the person should have 32 suggestions for a possible solution. Take Sam as an example 33 ,his suggestions might be: tighten or loosen the brakes; buy new brakes and change the old ones.
In the end, one 34 seems to be the solution to the problem. Sometimes the __35__ idea comes quite 36 because the thinker suddenly sees something new or sees something in a 37 way. Sam, for example, suddenly sees there is a piece of chewing gum(口香糖)stuck to a brake. He 38 finds the solution to his problem :he must___39___the brake.
Finally the solution is tested .Sam finds that his bicycle 40 perfectly. In short he has solved the problem.
