"Keep your eyes on your own paper" is one of the rules that Mrs. Archer has taught us. It is a simple rule, but it's not a rule everybody chooses to follow.

This morning, I had an experience with a "rule breaker" during an English exam. I felt somebody was watching me a little too closely. I turned my head quickly and saw James, who sat right behind me. My eyes caught his and he said in a low voice. "I hope you studied for this test!" I gave him a smile, not sure whether he was joking or not, and returned to my test. This time I leaned (倾身) a little more closely towards my paper, "I can't see!" James said.

"What am I going to do?" I thought to myself. Cheating (欺骗) went against my beliefs. I curled my arm around my answers.

"He's your friendand what are friends for"

    "You know it's wrong"

I tapped (轻敲,轻拍) the top of my desk, hoping for an easy way out of this matter. No easy answer came. I just knew I had to do what I felt was right, even if it made James mad. So I guarded my paper so that he couldn't see my answers.

When the exam ended, I stood there for a moment, searching for the right words to say to James. "Sorry, James, but you know me well enough to understand how I feel about cheating," I said slowly and softly. "But maybe I could help you study before the next test." "OK, Brian," he smiled. "It might not be easy, but I'll give it a try."

Health experts say the U.S. adult now sits about 6.5 hours a day. That is up about an hour a day compared to 2007. The news is even worse for teens. About 53% of teens now spend at least an hour of free time on computers. So do 56% of kids. As many as 1 in 4 people who use computers use one for three hours or more outside of work and school.

Let children learn to judge(判断) their own work. A child doesn't learn to talk by being corrected all the time. If he is corrected too much, he will stop talking. He notices a thousand times a day the differences between the language he uses and the language others use. Little by little, he makes the necessary changes to make his language like other people's.

In the same way, children learn to do all the other things without being taught﹣to walk, run, climb or ride a bicycle. They compare their performances with those of more skilled people, and slowly make the changes. But in school we never give a child a chance to find out his mistakes and correct them himself. We do it all for him. We thought that he would never notice a mistake unless it was pointed out to him, or correct it unless he was made to. Soon he becomes dependent on the teacher. Let him work out with the help of other children if he wants it.

If it is a matter in math or science, give him the answer book. Let him correct his own papers. Why should we teachers waste time on such daily work? Our job should be to help the children when they tell us that he can't find the way to get the right answer. Let the children learn what all educated persons must learn, how to measure(估量) their own understanding, how to know what they know or do not know.

Let them get on with this job in their ways. School teachers can offer help if they ask for it. Some parents and teachers are worried that the children might fail to learn something that they will need to get in the world. Don't worry! If it is important, they will go out into the world and learn it.

Soon computers and other machines will be able to remember you by looking at your eyes! The program works because everyone's eyes are different. So in the future you won't have to remember a number when you want to use a machine or take money out of a bank. You'll just have to look a the machine and it will be able to tell who you are.

The eye﹣recognition(眼睛识别)program has already been tested in shops and banks in the USA.Britain,Spain,Italy and Turkey.Soon this technology will take the place of all other ways of finding out who people are.Eye﹣recognition is a course of recognizing iris(虹膜),which includes the following steps.First,a kind of machine needs to collect different examples of one's iris from his eyes and store them.Second, when this person goes to the bank to take out money, this machine will have iris feature extraction (采集).Then, this machine will compare the examples kept in it with iris feature extraction.Once the examples and the feature extraction are the same, this person will be identified, and he will take out the money from the bank successfully.

However, scientists are also working on other systems.Machines will soon be able to know you from the shape of your face or hand or even your smell! We have already had machines that can tell who you are from your voice or the mark made by your finger.Eye﹣recognition is better than other kinds because your eyes don't change as you get older, and don't get dirty like hands or fingers, and even twins have different eyes.So the eye﹣recognition program can be up to 94% correct, depending on how good the technology is.However, some other programs may only be 51% correct now.In Britain,it was found that 91% of people who had tried it said that they liked the idea of eye﹣recognition.
