There are many reasons why I encourage people to travel, and I know that the experience will make one a better person.
I remember when I was traveling,I began to know the world better. The world is not just about me,my small town and home.Although you will meet different people from all over the world, you will realize that people are similar in their dreams, hopes and feelings.Enjoy exploring(探索)the different cultures, and you will also find that people are different in some of the things they do and how they live.Once you understand their ways,it will not be strange or scary(吓人的).Often we read stories about other cultures in books.Only when we visit their areas,do we find that those stories are something wrong.
One thing you may find out is that there are problems all over the world. We can't just get money to send to these areas and hope that will work them out.The world should get involved(干预)and help wherever there are problems.People everywhere should be given a chance. It is so easy to ignore(忽视)this if one does not travel or explore. One can look around and see that so many people have many challenges(挑战)worse than ours. One can realize that sometimes our biggest problems are not that big after all.
On your journey you will meet lots of new friends.Talking to strangers and finding about their lives is a great way to spend your time. You will certainly be more confident after having to deal with problems and make many decisions along the way.
When you travel, you have to be on your own in some situations. You will surprise yourself by how well you can do that. All your special experiences could make an interesting book to read.It would be filled with your special memories.
Traveling around and seeing so much happening in the world around us is a wonderful experience. If we could all just travel a little more and share our experiences,we would all be better people and the world would be a better place.

How Much Can We Afford to Forget?
In 2018, Science magazine asked some young scientists what schools should teach students. Most said students should spend less time memorizing facts and have more space for creative activities. As the Internet grows more powerful, students can access (获得) knowledge easily. Why should they be required to carry so much of it around in their heads?
Civilizations(文明)develop through forgetting life skills that were once necessary. In the Agricultural(农业的)Age, a farmer could afford to forget hunting skills. When societies industrialized, the knowledge of farming could be safe to forget. Nowadays, smart machines give us access to most human knowledge. It seems that we no longer need to remember most things. Does it matter?
Researchers have recognized several problems that may happen. For one, human beings have biases(偏见),and smart machines are likely to increase our biases. Many people believe smart machines are necessarily correct and objective, but machines are trained through a repeated testing and scoring process. In the process, human beings still decide on the correct answers.
Another problem relates to the ease of accessing information. When there were no computers, efforts were required to get knowledge from other people, or go to the library. We know what knowledge lies in other brains or books, and what lies in our heads. But today, the Internet gives us the information we need quickly. This can lead to the mistaken belief﹣the knowledge we found was part of what we knew all along.
In a new civilization rich in machine intelligence, we have easy access to smart memory networks where information is stored. But dependency on a network suggests possibilities of being harmed easily. The collapse of any of the networks of relations our well﹣being(健康)depends upon, such as food and energy, would produce terrible results. Without food we get hungry; without energy we feel cold. And it is through widespread loss of memory that civilizations are at risk of falling into a dark age.
We forget old ways to free up time and space for new skills. As long as the older forms of knowledge are stored somewhere in our networks, and can be found when we need them, perhaps they're not really forgotten. Still, as time goes on, we gradually but unquestionably become strangers to future people.
(1)Why are smart machines likely to increase our biases?
A.Because they go off course in testing and scoring.
B.Because we control the training process on them,
C.Because we offer them too much information.
D.Because they overuse the provided answers.
(2)The ease of accessing information from the Internet •
A. frees us from making efforts to learn new skills
B. prevents civilizations from being lost at a high speed
C.misleads us into thinking we already knew the knowledge
D.separates the facts we have from those in the smart machines
(3)The word "collapse" in Paragraph 5 probably means" ".
A.a sudden failure
B.the basic rule
C.a disappointing start
D. the gradual development
(4)What is the writer's main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To question about the standards of information storage.
B.To discuss our problems of communication with machines.
C.To stress the importance of improving our memorizing ability.
D.To remind us of the risk of depending on machines to remember.

Say you're sitting around with some friends playing video games and someone mentions a game that happens to be one of your favorites."Oh,that game's easy.So not worth the time,"one of your friends says. The others agree.Although you enjoy the game quite a lot,not wanting to argue with them, you go along with the crowd.
You have just experienced what is commonly referred to as peer pressure(同伴压力),also called peer
influence. You will adopt a certain type of behavior, dress,or attitude in order to be accepted as part of a group of your"peers".As a teen, you are likely to have experienced the effect of peer pressure in a number of different areas.
We are all influenced by our peers at any age.For teens,as school and other activities take you away
from home, you may spend more time with your friends than with your family. As you become more
independent, your peers naturally play a greater role in your life.
According to Dr.Casey from Cornell University, teens are very quick and accurate in making decisions
on their own and in situations where they have time to think. However, when they make decisions in the
heat of the momentor in social situations, their decisions are often influenced by factors like peers. In a
recent study, teen volunteers played a video driving game, either alone or with friends watching. The
researchers discovered that the number of risks teens took more than doubled when their friends were
watching, compared with when they played alone. This shows that teens may find it more difficult to control risky behavior when their friends are around,or in situations where they are extremely angry.
Just as people can influence us to make unwise choices, they can also influence us to make good ones.A teen might join in a volunteer project because his or her friends are doing it,or get good grades because his or her friends think getting good grades is important. In fact, friends often encourage each other to study,or try out for sports.
While we are always influenced by those around us,the decision to act or not is up to us.So when it
comes to decision making, the choice is up to you.

The longest river in the world is the Nile. It is 4,160 miles long. But the Nile is not the mightiest (浩荡的) river. The Amazon is.The Amazon is also the second longest river in the world. It is 3,900 miles long. How long is that? It is longer than a road going from New York City to San Francisco.
The Amazon is the mightiest for this reason. It has the greatest amount of water. More water runs out to sea than from the Nile. Mississippi, and Yangtze rivers combined. That's a lot of fresh water! The force of its current (水流) is great too. The current can be seen 200 miles out in the sea. There's a story to show the Amazon's amazing current. A ship sailed (航行) far away from Brazil. It ran out of drinking water. Another ship passed by. The first ship asked for water. Someone on the second ship said. "Just put your buckets (桶) into the sea."
Here are a few more facts. At its mouth, the Amazon is 90 miles wide.Even up the river, you can't see the opposite bank. The river is also very deep(from 22 to 76 meters).During rainy season, the river rises about 16 meters more. Big ocean ships can sail about 1,800 miles upstream (向上游).Smaller ships can sail 1,000 miles farther.
What's the most bloodthirsty fish in the world? No. It's not the shark. It's the Amazon's piranha. It is only about 10 cm to 20 cm long. It has sharp teeth. Thousands travel in a group. Part of Earth's beauty comes from its oceans. Ocean scientists study the chemical make﹣up of the ocean, weather patterns, the geography of the ocean floor, and many other areas. Their work is exciting, although sometimes dangerous. Using technology to do certain tasks helps. For example, robotic arms are used for very dangerous tasks.
One basic part of ocean study is understanding waves and how they work.Wind is the great maker of waves. The waves we know are mostly produced by winds blowing over the sea. They are directly connected with the wind speed and the time that wind lasts.
Sometimes ocean life can be seen in the wave.Living things seem to be staying within the wave, moving slowly inside it as if they were weightless.Besides the beauty of waves, scientists are interested in their technical ways. The diagram of waves shows how scientists examine waves. Waves are measured (测量)from the top (crest) to the bottom (trough). This allows scientists to find out the height of a wave. They also measure waves from crest to crest to determine(测定)the length of a wave.
During serious storms, huge waves might cut a sea ship apart. Ships are at great risk of winding up as broken pieces after being hit by the force of a huge wave. By understanding the ocean, scientists can prevent this breakup of ships by predicting when the water will be too dangerous for people and their ships. The study of waves and the ocean also allows scientists to make sure how certain beaches were formed. By studying the oceans, a great deal can be learned about the surface we live on.

Mobile phones are one of the most useful inventions of the last 50 years, but not everything that is said about them is good. Mobiles are often believed to be the cause of a number of things from poor eyesight and headaches to house fires. There's even one theory that mobile phones should be responsible for the disappearance of bees!
The theory is that the radiation (辐射) given off by mobile phones does great harm to bees, navigation systems (导航系统). Bees have a built﹣in system a bit like GPS and this helps them find their way back to their hives. But recently, thousands of bees have failed to find their way home. It is believed they are dying far from their hives.
The problem was first noticed by beekeepers in America and is a lot more serious than it at first seems. The important thing about bees is that most of the crops in many countries of the world are pollinated by them. Without bees, the crops can't continue to grow. Many beekeepers in Europe have reported losing between 50 and 70 percent of their bees. Jim Piper, a London beekeeper, said to the reporter, "My business is becoming worse. Twenty nine of my forty hives are now empty."
Nobody knows for sure whether the theory is true or not, but it's a fact that bees are disappearing in very large numbers. And we can't manage without them.Einstein said that if all our bees disappeared, man would only live for four more years! The Youth Climate Summit(气候峰会) a week﹣long festival of climate action for primary and middle schools in the UK,starts on 9 November. It aims to create a fairer, more environmental world and make promises that will help the planet.Climate change is the long﹣term changes in the world's weather patterns that are mostly caused by human activity. "Unlike world leaders, "say the summit's organizers. "young people are refusing to let it drop off the plan. "
Each day has a topic, which includes food and fashion, looking at how humans harm the environment and how to save the planet.Organizations are leading some on line activities. For example, the Marine Conservation Society is hosting meetings on protecting sea fish.Separately, the environmental organization Greenpeace is running a workshop on how to turn worn﹣out clothing into something new and wearable.
The summit will finish on 13 November, when youth ambassadors(大使)wants schools to stop paper waste.Max,another 16﹣year﹣old ambassador wants schools to organize more trips and activities that get students outside to experience the beauty of nature. As part of the summit, hundreds of schools across the country are signing up to the Let's Go Zero activity, aiming to become carbon﹣zero(零碳的)by 2030.
Carbon﹣zero schools are ones that promise to stop emitting carbon in seven areas, including where they get their food and how they use water and recycle their waste. The activity is run by Ashden,a charity working towards climate solutions.Ashden hopes that schools will be able to help each other by sharing ideas and methods. It is also calling on the Government to back the promise.Head over to transform﹣our﹣world.org where you can find out more.

Helping Hally
Sam was sitting on the couch, watching television. His mom walked into the room with Hally, their dog.
Mom said, " ①have,we,Hally,help,to(. )"Help her how?" asked Sam.
Do you remember when we went to pick up Hally from her litter? We picked her because she looked like her mom.She is brown with spots, with long ears, and she was energetic,so we thought she'd be strong, like her mom.But how does she look now?" Mom asked.
"Well," thought Sam, "She' s still brown with spots and long ears, but she' s not very energetic or strong anymore. "
"That's what the vet said, too. We haven't been letting her exercise as much, and we've been feeding her a lot.She would probably look just like her mom now if we had walked her more. ② We have to start walking her more often. And then she'll stay healthy for a long time. Will you help?"
"Sure!" said Sam.He decided that he could play fetch with her every day in the yard, because then she could run and run and run until she was tired.
The first day, they only played fetch for about 10 minutes before Hally was tired. But Sam kept playing with her every day.Soon, they could play for an entire half an hour!Hally looked stronger every day, just like her mom.Sam felt great about helping Hally get strong again.
