Four years ago, Chinese skater Wu Dajing introduced himself to the skating world by winning a silver medal at the Sochi Olympic Winter Games. At this year's Pyeong Chang Olympics, Wu not only returned, but also made history.

On Feb 22th, 2018, Wu won the gold medal in the men's short﹣track 500﹣meter race. He set a new world record with a time of 39.584 seconds. He also became the first Chinese man to take home an Olympic short﹣track gold medal. BBC said Wu's win was "flawless", because he was much faster than all of the other skaters.

Characters:

    "I"﹣Storyteller Bertie﹣storyteller's husband   The White Prince﹣a lion

We never had children of our own﹣just The White Prince﹣and I can tell you, he was enough of a family for anyone. He walked freely in the park just as we had planned he would, and ran after the deer and the rabbits whenever he felt like it; but be never did learn how to kill for himself. You can't teach old lions new tricks. He lived on deer mostly, and slept on a sofa in our living room﹣I wouldn't have him inside our bedroom, no matter(无论) how often Bertie asked. You know, I have to draw the line somewhere.

Bertie's leg was never cured. When it was bad, he often needed a stick, or me, or the lion to lean on. It pained him a lot, especially on cold and wet days, and he never slept well. On Sundays the three of us would walk around the park together, and Bertie would sit on the top of Wood Hill with his arm around the lion's neck and I would fly kites. You know, I've always loved kites. And the lion liked to break them into pieces.

The lion never showed any interest in running away, and even if he'd wanted to, the park wall was too high for an old lion to jump over. Wherever. Bertie went, he wanted to go too. And if ever Bertie went out in the car, then he'd sit by me in the kitchen, and watch me with those great amber eyes, listening all the while for the sound of Bertie's car coming up the path to the front of the house.

The lion was getting older. And he became weak in his legs and could see very little. He spent his last days sleeping at Bertie's feet. When he died, we buried(埋葬) him at the bottom of the hill. Bertie's wanted it that way so he could always see the place from the kitchen window. I suggested Bertie plant a tree in case(以防) he forgot where the lion was. "I will, but he should get more than a tree." Bertie said.

Bertie was sad for weeks, months after the lion died. There was nothing I could do to cheer him or even comfort him. He would sit for hours in his room, or go off on long walks by himself. He seemed so shut away inside himself, so distant(遥远的). Try as I did. I could not reach him.

Martina looked out of the window. A robin was singing a lively song in the tree. At this time, Grandpa, who lived with the family since Grandma had died, came in. He looked at the floor as if looking for something. He said, "When the robin sings…" he stopped, trying to remember what he had started to say.

"Spring is here," Mum finished the sentence. "And I'm thinking of our spring cleaning," Mum suggested. "Martina, you can help me, right?" Martina agreed unwillingly.

They cleaned the house. They cleaned upstairs, downstairs, inside, outside, until everything was clean. Then Mum pointed to Grandpa's sofa and shouted. "That old sofa has got to go. We'll buy Grandpa a new one."

"I don't want a new one," Grandpa insisted. Mum let go of the sofa. "We'll talk about it tonight when John gets home." John, Martina's dad, was still at work.

"Why don't you let us take away the sofa? It's too old!" Martina asked when the family were having supper.     The old man smiled to Martina and went on. "And the night your father was born, I sat in this sofa. I was nervous when they placed the little baby into my arms."

"I think I'm beginning to understand," Martina said. "Many years later," Grandpa continued, "I sat in this sofa when the doctor called and told me that your grandma was ill. I was lost without her, but the sofa gave me the comfort."

"I do see now," Martina looked at Grandpa. "This is not just an old sofa. This sofa is more like a friend." "Yes," Grandpa added. "We've got through a lot together." The whole family agreed that the living room would be boring without the old sofa.

After a while attention to Tom ended, and the usual school murmur(嗡嗡读书声)rose upon the boring air once more. Now the boy began to steal secret glances(偷看) at the girl. She noticed it, made a face at him and gave him the back of her head for the space of a minute. When she slowly faced around again, an apple lay before her. She pushed it away. Summer is finally here for most of us. Sadly, summer is not so pleasant to people in a bit less lucky places, where air conditioning(空调) is not easy to get for most of them.

But as a saying goes, where there is a will, there is a way, especially for those who like doing it

yourself(DIY). A young man from Bangladesh(孟加拉国) designed an air conditioning system called the Eco Cooler, one that does not require power, and is made of the world's most common waste﹣plastic bottles.

The Eco Cooler is super simple to build﹣no special engineering skills are required. First, to fix it,

a window should be taken away and replaced(替代) by it. Second, a board should be cut into the size of a window. Some bottle﹣neck sized holes should then be cut onto the board. Then, the funnel﹣shaped(漏斗状) bottlenecks, cut from the plastic bottles, should be put into the holes. The next step is to fix the design onto the window frame(框) with the wider side facing outwards. And this is it.

The Eco Cooler then works by catching the winds and sending them inside the building. It can reduce the temperature of a room by as much as 5°C﹣a big difference when looking at comfortable 25°C compared to uncomfortable 30°C.

The idea of the inventor, Ashis Paul, was to show his great product to as many People as possible. For this purpose, he received help from some groups of volunteers. Together, they offered to help local people build and fix the units,as well as teach them how to make them themselves.

Yes, the Eco Cooler is not a super high﹣tech air conditioning system, but it is one that can make a

big difference.

(1)When building the Eco Cooler, we should pay special attention to

A. the shape of the window

B. the direction of bottlenecks

C. the temperature of the outside

D. the weight of the board

(2)What can we learn from the passage?

A. Ashis Paul is a clever inventor and a successful businessman.

B. An Eco Cooler can fix the room temperature to comfortable 25°C.

C. The new invention of Eco Cooler is friendly to the environment.

D. Local people will replace their air conditioner with an Eco Cooler.

(3)What's the best title of this passage?

A. DIY air conditioning made from plastic bottles

B. Eco Cooler﹣﹣a super high﹣tech air conditioner

C. Why do we need an Eco Cooler in summer?

D. A strong﹣willed inventor and his DIY dream
