To many people, art is a human expression of creativity. But in recent years, you may have read news about artificial intelligence(AI) creating its own art, such as painting or writing poems. Some people worry that AI might someday replace(替代) artists.

But this worry seems to be unnecessary,at least for now. Many artists today are turning AI into a useful tool. Instead of replacing artists,AI is bringing artists more possibilities.

A piece of music created by Al recently attracted attention.AI was used to create the music based on the protein(蛋白质) structure of COVID﹣19.The music lasted nearly two hours. The project was led by Markus Buehler, an American musician and MIT professor(教授) of engineering. He assigned(指定) a unique note(独特的音符) to each amino acid(氨基酸)in the protein. The AI then translated these notes into music.

Listeners found the project "mind﹣blowing"."It allows me to see the virus in a new way,"said one listener. This surprising combination(结合) between science and art could not be achived without AI.As The Verge wrote,"AI helps artists play around in unpredictable ways, creating things beyond(超过)what they have ever thought was possible before."

Apart from creating imaginative works,AI can also take care of repetitive(重复乏味的)tasks for artists. For example,in the comic and cartoon industries, there are now AI tools that can automatically(自动)color in back﹣and﹣white line drawings.Although the results can be unpredictable and require a little cleanup,it can give artists room to experiment(实验),by cutting down the time it takes to color each picture.

Mobile phones are one of the most useful inventions of the last 50 years, but not everything that is said about them is good. Mobiles are often believed to be the cause of a number of things from poor eyesight and headaches to house fires. There's even one theory that mobile phones should be responsible for the disappearance of bees!

The theory is that the radiation (辐射) given off by mobile phones does great harm to bees, navigation systems (导航系统). Bees have a built﹣in system a bit like GPS and this helps them find their way back to their hives. But recently, thousands of bees have failed to find their way home. It is believed they are dying far from their hives.

The problem was first noticed by beekeepers in America and is a lot more serious than it at first seems. The important thing about bees is that most of the crops in many countries of the world are pollinated by them. Without bees, the crops can't continue to grow. Many beekeepers in Europe have reported losing between 50 and 70 percent of their bees. Jim Piper, a London beekeeper, said to the reporter, "My business is becoming worse. Twenty nine of my forty hives are now empty."

Nobody knows for sure whether the theory is true or not, but it's a fact that bees are disappearing in very large numbers. And we can't manage without them.Einstein said that if all our bees disappeared, man would only live for four more years! If the mobile phone theory is correct, we need to do something about it right now﹣before it's too late.

Wild beavers (河狸) are back! Experts say that the wild beaver families are doing well. The beavers are even boosting wildlife and the environment!

Over ten years ago, a family of beavers turned up in a part of the river Otter, in Devon. No one knew exactly where they came from. It was a big surprise一wild beavers hadn't lived in England for around 400 years!

In 2015, the government allowed the beavers to stay there as part of a trial (试验). They wanted to see if these animals could be reintroduced to the wild. The trial ends in February. Some scientists from the University of Exeter already say the beavers help the wildlife in the area. One scientist called it" an amazing story".

A lot of this is because of dams. Beavers build dams along the river. This creates deep pools in the riverbed and slows the water down. Scientists say this is perfect for many different types of plants and animals! Many plants are growing near the beavers.Different types of animals are also becoming more and more in the river. Beavers also help make flooding less, scientists say.The beavers' dams slow down the speed of the river, especially after heavy rain.

There are, however, some problems. Beavers gnaw (咬,啃) on trees and this can harm them.Their dams can also sometimes create floods (洪水) on people's land.

Beavers aren't the only animals that are being reintroduced to the wild! In 2019, red squirrels were brought back to an area of the Scottish Highlands. Further away, the world's rarest (罕见的)duck, the Madagascar pochard, is making a comeback. It was set free into the wild on the African island in 2019 and is doing well.

"Keep your eyes on your own paper" is one of the rules that Mrs. Archer has taught us. It is a simple rule, but it's not a rule everybody chooses to follow.

This morning, I had an experience with a "rule breaker" during an English exam. I felt somebody was watching me a little too closely. I turned my head quickly and saw James, who sat right behind me. My eyes caught his and he said in a low voice. "I hope you studied for this test!" I gave him a smile, not sure whether he was joking or not, and returned to my test. This time I leaned (倾身) a little more closely towards my paper, "I can't see!" James said.

"What am I going to do?" I thought to myself. Cheating (欺骗) went against my beliefs. I curled my arm around my answers.

"He's your friendand what are friends for"

    "You know it's wrong"

I tapped (轻敲,轻拍) the top of my desk, hoping for an easy way out of this matter. No easy answer came. I just knew I had to do what I felt was right, even if it made James mad. So I guarded my paper so that he couldn't see my answers.

When the exam ended, I stood there for a moment, searching for the right words to say to James. "Sorry, James, but you know me well enough to understand how I feel about cheating," I said slowly and softly. "But maybe I could help you study before the next test." "OK, Brian," he smiled. "It might not be easy, but I'll give it a try."

I felt happy that my friendship with James hadn't been destroyed (破坏). Mrs. Archer would be proud.

(3)Who said the two underlined sentences and in what way?

Group: Buffy, Debby, Jamie, Albert, Matt …(7)

Hey, guys! I have a lot of things I don't need, so I'm thinking about having a yard sale. What do you think?

Thank you!

Having a yard sale is not easy. You have to collect things, put prices on them, put them out on tables and then wait for people to come. And usually you have to sell things at VERY low prices. For all that time and work, you make very little money. Why not just sell your things online for higher prices?

Debby's right. But I think it'd be even better to just give your things to people who need them. I just sent out a lot of things last week.

Hey, I love yard sales! It's a great chance to make big money if you choose the right day. In my experience, Saturday is the best.

I agree with Albert. You can make money and meet interesting people. I made some good friends at my last yard sale.

A. To ask her friends for advice.

B. To sell things to the group members.

(2)What is Debby's opinion?

A. A yard sale could make much more money.

B. You have to wait long for people to come.

(3)Which of the following best describes Jamie?

A. Honest.

B. Clever.
