William Shakespeare died on April the 23rd in 1616.This year's 400th anniversary of his death is not just a chance to remember one of the greatest writers of all time.It is a moment to celebrate his ongoing influence.Just as Ben Jonson, another great English writer of his times, said,"he is not of an age,but for all time."

People like Shakespeare's plays because the characters show real human feelings.Romeo and Juliet, who are young lovers, they don't quite know how to get ahead with their lives. And they disagree with their parents.Their story has a sad ending. When we take the characters out of his period, they really speak to almost any time and place.

The language of Shakespeare is alive and well in modern, everyday English.Even if an English﹣speaker knows nothing about Shakespeare, they will surely know some sayings that come from his plays. When we have problems making up our mind,we say"to be or not to be:that is the question"(Hamlet). When a friend eats all the food in the house,we say he's"eating me out of house and home"(Henry IV).

But Shakespeare's influence is felt far beyond his language and his culture."Cowards die many times before their death, the valiant (英勇的) never taste of death but once."This saying from Shakespeare's historical play Julius Caesar encouraged Nelson Mandela to fight on when he was a prisoner.Shakespeare's influence is everywhere, from Goethe (a German writer) to Tchaikovsky.

As Shakespeare himself put it in his comedy As You Like It,"all the world's a stage."More than 400 years later, stages around the world still show his plays.Through his works,Shakespeare lives on.Perhaps we'll still be attracted by his works 400years from now.

38.What is the writer's main purpose in writing the article?

A.To introduce the life story of William Shakespeare.

B.To explain why Shakespeare's writing lives on.

C.To recommend some of Shakespeare's best﹣known works.

D.To explore the influences of Shakespeare's comedies.

39.Which of these sayings can be used to express the main idea of Paragraph 2?

A.All the world's a stage.

B.To be or not to be:that is the question.

C.The valiant never taste of death but once.

D.He is not of an age,but for all time.

40.Paragraph 4 is mainly about

A.some famous Shakespearian sayings

B.some Shakespearian historical stories

C.Shakespeare's influence on modern English

D.Shakespeare's influence on wider society

41.By the last sentence"Perhaps we'll still be attracted by his works 400years from now",the writer means

A.Shakespeare's influence will last for a long time

B.Britain will remember William Shakespeare forever

C.Shakespeare's works will be gone and forgotten some day

D.Shakespeare's works will have a stronger influence than ever before.

Some people seem to have unusual memories. Zheng Aiqiang, a "memory athlete" on TV show Super Brain, can remember 2, 660 numbers in just one hour!

You would think people like him must have special brains. But according to a recent study by researchers from America and Holland, the brain structure (结构) of ordinary people and 23 of the world's lending memory athletes shows no difference.

Good memories can be trained. New research in the magazine Neuron suggests that a person will get a super memory with just six weeks of hard training.

Researchers found that a technique (技巧) called loci, invented by the ancient Greeks, can greatly help improve memory.

By using loci, you are using your imagination to improve the brain's memory networks. You can link (关联) something you need to remember with a place that you know very well. For example, to remember a list of numbers, imagine yourself walking through your house. Each thing is linked to a number. For example, zero could be the handle on the door and five could be the painting on the wall.

In one study, some ordinary people were given 20 minutes to remember 72 nouns. At the beginning, they could only remember 26 words, but when they were taught loci, they could remember 62 words.

"Not everyone can become a memory winner. But everyone using the technique can improve his memory greatly" said Boris Konrad, one of the researchers in the study.

On February 12, 2019, Brendon Fontaine blew out five candles on a birthday cake. "He loved the cake so much," says his mother, Faith, who lives in Winnipeg with Brendon. "I had to hide it in the back of the fridge.

Brendon's surprise came from Cakes for Kids, a group of home bakers(烘焙师) who know that a simple birthday cake can be uncommon for poor families like the Fontaines.

The group was set up three years ago by Christy Rogowski, a 40﹣year﹣old who works in health care was really upsetting," Rogowski says.

A Facebook call out for volunteers finally added 150 bakers to their name list.' When volunteers first apply (申请),they're asked why they want to do so."Some people have said that they didn't have a cake on their birthday growing up,and they know how important it is," says Singleton. Blue Lightning

Sally loved cars more than anything else. This spring she thought of building a go﹣kart to enter for the Go﹣Go Race. So she asked her dad for help.

"Well," he said. "How about this: you do some research first and then come back to me with a design."

A week later, Sally brought her notes and drawings to Dad. She named her go﹣kart "Blue Lightning". Dad looked over her work, thinking. "Well, that's interesting," he said. "Have a try. Just build Blue Lightning as you've designed."

Over three weekends of hard work, Sally turned her design into a real, working go﹣kart and painted it light blue. Dad asked her to take it for a test drive. Sally agreed.

After she did that, Sally drove back to Dad. "Well," she said. "Now I know why you wanted me to have a test drive."

"Oh, do you?" he said. "Please share."

"When I drove fast, there was a lot of pushback," she said. "I think it's because of the lightning bolt (闪电) shape."

   "Very good!" Dad said.

"So, why didn't you tell me about that problem in the first place?" Sally asked.

Dad laughed. "Where's the fun in that? If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. But if you teach a man to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime."

Sally said, "I see. Anyway, designing is half the fun !"

Dad smiled. "Good. Sometimes, learning happens during the process. We learn how to do something right by doing it a few times first and making mistakes along the way."

That encouraged Sally and she worked even harder. When she showed Dad her new go﹣kart, he nodded with pride.

Finally came the race. Sally wasn't worried about whether she would win﹣in her mind, she had already won, by building something better than ever before.
