When we think of friends, we usually think of those who have been in our life for a long time. (1) , there is another type of friend﹣one that has not been with us for a long period of time. but (2) our mind at some moment.
The first such friend I remember is the little girl with red curly hair. She was in the bed next to(3) when I received an operation on my nose. She was about two years older, more(4) and braver. She would jump out of bed whenever the nurse was gone. Her two little feet on the cold floor(5) me. Without her, I would have been alone and afraid.
Two years later, I was sent to a nursery school(6) my parents were far too busy. There, I met a foreign girl. We both were the oldest in that school; the others were babies who were not able to talk with us. Our(7) started with so﹣called(所谓的) competitions. Although we couldn't speak to each other in the same language, our(8) was made by trying to beat(击败) each other﹣at drawing, at game, even at eating. Our competitions, I think, gave me(9) I could control. And maybe I gave her the same. We got through a difficult time together.
Such friends often support us when our life is off balance. A word, a smile, even a similar scene can bring back memories about them.(10) , the warmth rises in our heart when we think of them. And silently, we thank them and wish them well.

A different culture keeps my eyes and mind open. When I stayed in Russia (A)(1) an exchange student,I learned about it.
One day,a Russian trend invited me to a (B) well ﹣ knownrestaurant in Moscow(莫斯科)I looked forward to trying local (当地的)food. After arriving there,I found nothing on
the table but several small plates,on which there were nuts,a few slices(片)of tomatoes, and several pieces of onions. Although the dishes were simple,we drank a lot and I felt the passion(热情)from the bottom of his heart. In China, when we invite friends or relatives,we always treat them to a big dinner. We prepare as much food as we can(C)(2) show our friendliness.
What a different culture it is! Even though we try our best,it's very (D) difficultto get used to their customs. Another Russian custom also impresses me deeply. As we know,it is very cold in winter there. When winter comes, ( E )俄罗斯人喜欢游泳.They even take their kids outside together. Like their parents,(F) Russian kids rub (擦) their bodies with snow before jumping into the water. Although the water is freezing cold, they all play happily in it.
What fun it is to know about a different culture.

Half of the students put up their hands to show that they could smell it. The teacher returned to the (5) of the classroom and asked again who else could smell the apple. The rest raised their hands except one boy. The teacher came to the boy and asked. "You really can't smell the apple?"
The boy answered,"No, I can't smell it, I don' t think it's a (6) apple."
The teacher (7) at the boy and said to the class, "He's right! It's not (8) to get the apple smell from this apple."
All of the other students had been tricked. Some may have thought that perhaps the apple didn't have the apple smell, (9) they didn't dare to speak up. They just (10) the first student blindly and went along with him.
