A farmer had some puppies(小狗)to 36 . He painted a sign advertising the puppies and 37__ nailing (钉)it to a post on the edge of his yard. As he was driving the last nail into the post, a little boy came to him.
“Mister,” he said, “I want to buy one of your puppies.”
“Well,” said the farmer, as he 38 the sweat off his face, “these puppies come from fine parents and cost 39 money. Do you have enough money?”
The boy 40 his head for a moment. Then reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a handful of 41 and held it up to the farmer. “I’ve got thirty-nine cents. Is that enough to take a look?” “Sure,” said the farmer. And with that he 42 a whistle (口哨声), “Here, Dolly!” he called. 43 from the doghouse and down the ramp ran Dolly 44 by four little balls of fur. The little boy’ eyes danced with delight. As the dogs made their 45 to the fence, the little boy noticed something else stirring inside the doghouse. 46 another little ball appeared; this one noticeably smaller. Then in a somewhat 47 manner the little pup began hobbling(蹒跚) toward the others, doing its best to 48 .
“I want that one,” the little boy said, 49 to the smallest one. The farmer said, “Son, you don’t want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you 50 these other dogs would.”
With that the little boy 51 back from the fence, and began 52 up one leg of his trousers. In doing so he exposed a steel support running down both sides of his leg 53 itself to a specially made 54 . Looking back up at the farmer, he said, “You see sir, I don't 55 too well myself, and he will need someone who understands.”

I remember as a small child people would often ask me, "What are you going to be when you grow up?"
Well, it __36__ being a cowboy or some super hero. Later it was a fireman, a policeman, a lawyer... As I grew older my dreams for the future __37__. When, at last, I was in college, I set my __38__ on becoming a preacher (牧师) like my father. __39__ I studied and prepared for that life. I reached the __40__ in the end and I was preaching __41__ full-time for much of my adult life.
However, for many people, there is a "thief" that goes around stealing our __42__. Sometimes, the thief will come as a parent, a relative, or a friend, but the __43__ thief is usually ourselves.
We find __44__ just about reaching the top, and a "small" __45__ inside says, "You’ll never make __46__.""You can’t possibly do this." On and on the "small" voice __47__ our failure. Failure ,__48__ is one of the most important tools we have may teach us valuable (极宝贵的) __49__ . When we learn these lessons well, we are ready __50__ success.
I always tell my children that you __51__ do anything that your heart desires(渴望). Remember the saying, "Nothing is __52__ to a willing heart." There are __53__ "overnight" successes, but with determination, they will come. Imagine __54__ a life you dream of ,Then in your heart, believe it will happen to you. Then work, work, work. You’ll get the picture.
So, be true to your dream, and don’t let anyone __55__ it from you —especially yourself.

We all have weaknesses and strengths—no matter who we are .Some get sick easily.
Some are 36 people in communication, struggling with 37 .
Sometimes weaknesses seem to outweigh (胜过)the strengths and sometimes it’s the other way around. 38 ,facing huge limitations, many people tend to 39 it as just bad luck ---but not everyone. Those who rise over their weaknesses can still manage to 40 extraordinary things.
I 41 a school prize –giving ceremony and the guest speaker was Andrew Becroft, 42 had a severe stutter (结巴 ) as a child . 43 allowing this to limit him , he chose to overcome it. Now he is a famous judge . Not only 44 he become successful, but he did so in a profession 45 he had to speak before others regularly. Had he not worked on his 46 ability, it would have been very limiting to his success in life and work.
Many people face far huger limitations, such as loss 47 legs or arms , being born extremely poor, 48 you do. But whatever the limitation, you’ll 49 find people who have overcome it. Helen Keller, who fell 50 and lost her sight and hearing at 19 months old, worked hard to be a famous woman with great 51 . Mark Inglis lost both his legs in a mountain climbing accident, 52 has since climbed Mt. Everest.
If one of them had told you what they hoped to achieve, you would have nodded kindly while 53 thinking to yourself that they had no chance . And yet the results speak for 54 .
Though most of us will never have to face such challenges , yet most of us will never achieve to the 55 that these people have either if we never seriously think of what we can do.

Learning to Accept
I learned how to accept life as it is from my father. 21_,he did not teach me acceptance when he was strong and healthy, but rather when he was 22 and ill.
My father was 23 a strong man who loved being active, but a terrible illness 24 all that away. Now he can no longer walk and he must sit quietly in a chair all day. Even talking is 25 . One night, I went to visit him with my sisters. We started 26 about life, and I told them about one of my 27 . I said that we must very often give things up 28 we grow—our youth, our beauty, our friends---but it always 29 that after we give something up,we gain something new in its place. Then suddenly my father 30 up. He said, “But, Peter,I gave up 31 ! What did I gain?” I thought and thought, but I could not think of anything to say. 32 , he answered his own question: “I 33 the love of my family.” I looked at my sisters and saw tears in their eyes, along with hope and thankfulness.
I was also 34 by his words. After that, when I began to feel irritated(恼怒的)at someone, I 35 remember his words and become 36 . If he could replace his great pain with a feeling of love for others, then I should be 37 to give up my small irritations. In this 38 ,I learned the power of acceptance from my father.
Sometimes I 39 what other things I could have learned from him if I had listened more carefully when I was a boy. For now, though, I am grateful for this one 40 .

“Big boys don’t cry.” I heard those words a lot 36 up in America in the late sixties and early seventies. In those days men were expected to be 37 and rugged and never shed a tear no matter what. Our 38 were all stone faced cowboys who were too 39 to cry. Believing this then I tried my best 40 to cry at all during my teenage and early adult years.
All that changed, 41 , as I was driving home alone one night shortly after my Mom 42 . It was dark and raining outside. I was struggling to 43 the car on the road while at the same time 44 to hold the tears back in my eyes. I remember almost going off the road twice as I blinked back (眨眼控制) the salty water that was burning my 45 and blurring (使模糊) my vision. My hands shook, my heart 46 , and my soul felt dead. 47 I could do it no longer. I stopped, pulled over, lay my head on the steering wheel, and 48 . I cried until the tears couldn’t fall anymore. I cried until the pain that I was holding onto so 49 finally fled my heart.
After that night I 50 something. Big boys do cry. 51 , it is the biggest hearts that cry the most. I realized too that it is our 52 that can release us from our anger and our grief while 53 us to our love and our God. Tears help us to embrace this often bittersweet life. They help us to keep growing 54 to each other in love and joy instead of 55 ourselves up in dull, aching, and lonely hearts.

Recently, I have begun to do rides with a group of guys who ride professionally (老练地). The first day, I finished the ride with great 36 , though I tried hard to keep up with one guy for most the ways. To my 37 , I did a little better the second time.
I decided to work harder to 38 . Yesterday, I 39 so much on my ride that I missed the short route (路线) I usually take; 40 , I stayed on the long route. I had never used this route, so I wasn’t really sure about which 41 I should take. Thankfully, a group of four riders 42 , and I just followed them.
A few minutes later, one of the guys got a flat tire (爆了的轮胎), and, with the help of the others, he had it 43 in about a minute. We all waited there 44 he changed his tire. After we started riding again, I noticed something 45 . The guy at the front would ride 46 for a couple of minutes, then he would move over to the side, 47 his way to the end of the line, and the guy behind him would move into the lead position. The process (过程) would 48 every few minutes. This was a lot easier than riding alone, trying to 49 the first rider. This time I had a great time – and I think it is the 50 I’ve ever gone.
This made me realize how important teamwork is, and the 51 of having a great team. The point is that you don’t have to be at your best 52 . You give it your all for a while, and then you let the guy 53 you do the same. The entire team improves because you don’t have to be the 54 all the time. You get your time to shine, and so does everyone else. You cannot get anywhere – or even make any worthwhile improvement – without a 55 . Who else will stop and help you to change your flat tire?

I lost my sight when I was four years old by falling off a car and landing on my head. Now I am thirty-two. I can vaguely remember the brightness of __36____ and what color red is. It would be ___37____ to see again, but a(n) __38____ can do strange things to people. I don’t mean I would __39___ to go without my eyes. I simply mean that the loss of them made me appreciate more what I had _40_____.
My parents and my teachers saw something in me ----- a __41____ to live ---- which I didn’t see, and they made me want to fight in out with _42____.
The __43___ lesson I had to learn was to believe in myself. I am not talking about simply the kind of __44____ that helps me down so unfamiliar staircase alone. I __45___ something bigger than that: a confidence that I am, despite being __46____, a real, positive person; that there is a special place where I can make myself fit.
It took me years to discover and strengthen this confidence. It had to start with the easy and simple things. __47____ a man gave me an indoor baseball. I thought he was laughing at me and I was __48____. “I can’t use this,” I said. “Take with you,” he urged me, “and roll it around.” The words __49___ in my head. “Roll it around!” By rolling the ball I could _50_____ where it went. This gave me an idea how to achieve a goal I had thought _51____ before playing baseball. At Philadelphia’s Overbrook School for the Blind I _52___ a successful variation of baseball. We called it ground ball.
I have set ahead of me a series of goals and then tried to reach them, one at a time. I had to be clear about my _53____. It was no good crying for something that I knew at the start was __54___ out of reach because that only invited bitterness of failure. When I was growing up, I had an old neighbor named Dr. Gibbs. He didn’t look like any doctor I’d 36 known. When Dr. Gibbs wasn’t 37 lives, he was planting trees.
The good doctor had some 38 theories on planting trees. He believed in “No pains, no gains”. He never 39 his new trees, which was 40 many people. Once I asked why. He 41 that watering plants spoiled them, and that if you water them, each following tree generation will 42 weaker and weaker. So you have to make things 43 for them. He talked about how watering trees 44 shallow roots, and how trees that weren’t watered had to grow deep roots in 45 of water. I came to understand that he meant deep roots were to be 46 . I planted a couple of trees a few years back and I took good care of them. Two years of 47 has resulted in trees that expect to be waited on hand and foot. Whenever a cold wind blows, they 48 and tremble their branches. Funny things about those trees of Dr. Gibbs’. The lack of water seemed to 49 them in ways comfort and ease never could.
I used to 50 for my sons that their lives will be easy. But 51 I’ve been thinking that it’s time to 52 my prayer. I know my children are going to meet 53 , and I’m praying they will be strong. The prayer for comfort is seldom met. What we need to do is to pray for deep roots, 54 when the winds blow, we won’t be 55 away.

I agree with the saying that some people “see old memories as a chance to deal with the past and unite past and present.” Many people are so ___1___ by things that happened in their past that they are not able to focus on the ___2___ . For example, in the book Ceremony, the main character, Tayo, cannot concentrate on the present because he can’t forget his troubled childhood and ___3___ continues to relive things that happened during that time.
However, past memories can help people to ___4___ in the present. A ___5___ example of people learning from the past would be the Marshall Plan. After the ___6___ of World War II there were many war-torn countries around the world in need of ___7___ assistance to help rebuild their countries, and the United States would have to be the one to ___8___ that assistance. Many American politicians thought it was ___9___ for the US government to spend money abroad on countries that would not be able to repay it for a long time. However, George Marshall, a former US general, remembered how the exact same ___10___ of "why should we spend money on war-torn nations that really owe us reparations (赔款)?" had been used after World War I towards Germany. The ___11___ of assistance towards Germany after World War I had caused a gigantic economic depression in Germany that had made the Mark (German money) virtually ___12___ . The German people became so desperate that they started ___13___ an extreme German nationalist named Adolf Hitler, who eventually started World War II. Marshall knew that if the US did not ___14___ war-torn Germany and, especially, Japan, we could ___15___ have a World War III on our hands.

Many years ago three soldiers, hungry and tired of battles, came upon a small village. The villagers, 36 a poor harvest and many years of war, quickly 37 what little they had to eat and met the three at the village square, wringing(绞)their clothes and complaining of the 38 shortages.
The soldiers spoke quietly among themselves and the first soldier then 39 the village elders. “Your tired fields have left you 40 to share, so we will share what little we have: the 41 of how to make soup from stones.”
42 the villagers were interested and soon a fire was put to the town’s greatest pot as the soldiers dropped three smooth 43 into the pot full of water. “Now this will be a fine soup,” said the second soldier, “but a little salt and some parsley(欧芹)would make it 44 !” Up jumped a villager, crying “I’ve just remembered 45 some have been left!” She ran away, 46 with the parsley and salt. 47 the water boiled, corn, carrots, beef and cream 48 their way into the pot when all sat 49 to have a large meal.
The villagers ate and sang and danced well into the 50 , full of energy again by the meal and their new-found friends. In the next morning the three soldiers 51 up to find the whole village standing before them. At their feet 52 a bag of the village’s best bread and cheese. An elder said that the soldiers had given them the 53 gift: the secret of how to make soup from stones and they would never forget. The third soldier turned to the 54 and said, “There is no secret, but this is certain: it is only by 55 that we may enjoy a large meal.”
