For more than six million American children, coming home after school means (come) to an empty house. Some deal with the situation by watching TV. Some may hang out outside.all of them have something in common. They spend part of each day alone. They (call) latchkey children---they are children who look after themselves while their parents work. And their bad situation has become a subject of concern.
A headmaster of an elementary school said that there was a school rule against wearing jewelry. A lot of kids had chains around their necks with keys(attach). He was constantly telling them to put them inside shirts. There were so many keys he slowly learned were house keys.
He began talking to the children who had them. Then he learned the influence working couples and single parents were having their children. Fear is the biggest problem faced by children at home alone. Many had nightmares and were worried about their own (safe).
The most common way latchkey children deal with this is by hiding. It might be in a bathroom, under a bed in a closet. The second is TV. They’ll watch it with the volume turned up high. Most parents don’t realize(it) effect on their children and most parents are slow to admit the fact they leave their children alone.

In recent years some Inuit people in Nunayut(5) (report) increases in bear sightings around human settlements, leading to a(6) (believe) that populations are increasing. Scientists have responded by (7) (note) that hungry bears may be congregating(聚集) around human settlements, leading to the illusion(错觉) that populations are(8) (high) than they actually are. Of(9) nineteen recognized polar bear subpopulations, three are declining, six(10) (be) stable, one is increasing, and nine lack enough data.
