What does a typical day look like for a high school student in the United States?Well everyone's is very different.I can describe my normal day in high school for you.

Our school day usually went from 8:30am to 5:30pm.However,some days I had cheerleading(啦啦队) practice or play practice at 6:30am.If I had cheerleading practice I got ready at school, and if I had time,I ate breakfast at the school dining hall.

Then I would go towards my locker and get my books for the first period. Each class went for about 50minutes and we had 4minutes to get to the next class. We studied everything from science to math and Spanish to P.E.

I played the flute(长笛) in band,so one of my class periods was used for that.Lunch﹣time would be at 12:30pm and then we had some time to hang out outside or by our lockers. At the end of the day there was a seminar(研讨会) period.I could be used for studying or meetings.

After school,I would cheer at a basketball game,be a lifeguard(救生员) at work or have speech practice. My family always tried to have dinner together at around 7pm,but there wasn't always time.I would finally start studying at around 8or 9pm.

Have you ever had dreams about building a robot?Or putting together a spaceship?Or even seeing your face made out of chocolate?Done. All you need is a 3﹣D printer.

The possibilities of 3﹣D printing seem endless (无穷尽的).All the user has to do is to design an object on the computer and choose a material to print in.The printers print in hundreds of different materials including glass, sugar and even skin! When the user presses (按)﹣print, the 3﹣D printer spreads the materials layer (层) by layer and like magic the object is produced.

The first 3﹣D printer was invented in 1986by American,Charles Hull. But 3﹣D printing has only become cheap enough recently for most people to use.Designers now use 3﹣D printing to create unusual things. The Dutch artist Dirk Vander Kooj prints furniture made from old fridges.

And doctors have used 3﹣D printing to print human body parts! The Telegraph reported in February that scientists from Cornell Medical College even printed a man﹣made ear.But like a lot of new technologies,if 3﹣D printing gets into the wrong hands,it can be dangerous.

In 2011a group of four men in the US used 3﹣D printing to Produce ATM skimmers (提款机盗刷器).These were placed on an ATM and stole over $400,000from users of the ATM.It is terrible to think that criminals like them might one day use a 3﹣D printer to print a gun.But for better or for worse,3﹣D printing has been put into use.In a few years, you'll probably be wondering how you could ever live without your 3﹣D printer!

Experts believe that there are more than 8 million restaurants in the world today. So it might surprise you to learn that restaurants, as we know them, have only existed for a few centuries. Before 1765, there were no restaurants. That is, there were no places that provided the restaurant experience. There was nowhere in which a waiter brought you food and drink that you picked from a menu. In fact, there were no menus anywhere.

There were eating places travellers could go to centuries before that. The countryside was full of inns that would serve food. And there were taverns where one could get drinks. The rich could also eat special meals prepared by private cooks. But none of them could be called a "restaurant".

A man called Boulanger changed that. In 1765, he opened a place in Paris that sold soups(汤). On his sign he used the word "restaurant" to describe what he was selling. At that time, soups were considered something that could help "restore"(恢复)your health﹣ in French the word "restore" is "restaurer"﹣﹣﹣ so he called the soups "restaurants". Soon, people started buying Boulanger's soups even when they were not ill. And over time, people began to use the word "restaurant" to refer to a place selling soup rather than the soup itself. More "restaurants" opened in France, and people began to buy soups more often.

Later, restaurants in Paris began to serve other food besides soup. In the 1790s, menus started to appear. By the mid﹣1800s, there were many types of restaurants throughout the world. The United States offered coffee shops. Tea houses became popular throughout China. Paris created beautiful restaurants for the rich. The British began to copy the French, and the restaurant idea spread throughout the British Empire.

A. Restaurants only served food.

B. Restaurants were more expensive.

C. Restaurants were mainly in cities.

D. Restaurants had a list of meal choices.

(3)Who did Boulanger expect to come and eat at his restaurant

A. Rich people

B. Sick people.

C. Travellers.

D. Workers.

(4)When it was first used. what did the word "restaurant" refer to

A. A person.

B. A place.

C. Illness.
