Layers(层)of white cloth are glued together with flour paste(糨糊). "To make good paste,we make it at a temperature of 85℃.If it's too low or too high, the paste will not work, "Lai said. Then the pasted layers are dried and cut into different shapes. After this, the layered cloth is beaten again and again until it is tight(紧实的)enough to make soles and upper parts. The next step is to shape the two parts and glue them together. But still the soles' edges look fluffy.Through repeated polishing and trimming, the fluffy edges(毛边)will become smooth. Then the cloth shoes are ready.
Lai's hard work touched her son Ai Peng.In 2015,Ai decided to leave his job and help his mother. He used Shu embroidery to make the shoes look more beautiful and opened a cloth shoe store online. He also set up shop windows to show the steps of making shoes, helping more people learn about the art of cloth shoes.

A tornado (龙卷风) is a kind of strong storm with air which moves in a circle quickly. They can move over 200 miles per hour and cause a lot of damage (损坏). As they move across the land, they can easily pick up cars, trucks, and even houses, and then throw them very far. It is important to find a safe place if a tornado gets close.
A safe place could be a basement (地下室) or the lowest floor. If you are in a home without a basement, try to find a first﹣floor bathroom or a small room without windows in the middle of your house. You should curl up (蜷缩) into a ball and cover your head and neck with your hands.
But there are some people who actually want to get close to tornadoes. They are scientists who want to learn more about tornadoes. One of the best ways to do this is to get as close as possible to the tornado. They use special tools to measure (测量) what is happening in and around a tornado.
One special tool is called a tornado probe (探测仪). Inside the tornado probe, there are sensors (传感器) to measure wind speed, temperature, pressure, and direction. Some probes even have cameras, so the scientists can see and understand what it's like to be in a tornado.
To be able to get these measurements, the scientists have to get a tornado probe near or into a tornado.Scientists will try to guess where a tornado will go next. Then they drive to that location and put down the probe. If they do not guess correctly, they pick up their probe and try another place. If they are right, the tornado will go near or even right over the probe. Then they take all of the measurements from the probe and use them to predict where future tornadoes may form (形成)and travel. And they can give people some warning to keep away from a dangerous tornado.

The opening of the Beijing﹣Zhangjiakou high﹣speed railway took place in December,2019. The railway is a milestone in China's railway development because it has used the latest technologies in railway building.
The railway is 174 kilometers long, with 10 stations. In December 2020, "the Super Apple" appeared at supermarkets across China, sweeter and juicier than usual ones, without pesticide residue(农药残留).Before reaching the market, the products had been tested over 500 times.Blockchain(区块链) technology in recording farmers' actions is widely used to avoid nonstandard pesticide use.Digital technology at the apple storage helps to group apples, which can keep the stability(稳定性) in the quality. "The future of agriculture lies in the modern technology." Huang Jikun,Professor of the China Centre for Agricultural Policy at Peking University, told Beijing Review.
At China's Central Rural Work Conference in 2020,President Xi stressed that efforts must be made to increase the quality of agriculture.Xi also pointed out the importance of speeding up technologies.

INTRODUCTION It's hard to believe that I wrote Number the Stars more than twenty years ago.It seems like yesterday that I answered the phone on a snowy January morning and received the news that it had won the 1990 Newbery Medal(美国纽伯瑞儿童文学奖). I think readers of every age may match themselves with the important persons in the books they love and ask themselves:Would I have done that? What choice would I have made? And ten﹣the age of Annemarie in Number the Stars﹣is an age when young people are beginning to develop a strong set of personal ethics(道德观;价值观).They are beginning to realize that the world they live in is not always good and safe. It seems that food deliverymen (送货员) are always rushing in haste. We can always see them running every minute, and they seem to have lots of things to do the next minute. They wear blue, red or yellow helmets (头盔) and many of them don't follow traffic rules. They drive on the wrong side of the road and run red lights. They use mobile phones when they are driving.
However, not everything goes well with food deliverymen. In the first half of 2017,food deliverymen had 76 traffic accidents in Shanghai. That means every two and a half days,a food deliveryman will die or get hurt on the road.
What makes deliverymen take such risks? The strict rules of the food delivery companies and the worried customers may be the answer. Many companies will fine (罚款) a deliveryman up to 2,000 yuan if he can't deliver the food on time, reported China Daily.Fines also go to those who get bad reviews from customers.
To solve the problem, food delivery service companies need to do some changes. Some cities are also taking action.Shanghai has asked companies to train their deliverymen on traffic rules and safety. Now in Shenzhen,if a deliveryman breaks traffic rules more than twice, then he can't do the job for a whole year.

If you feel sad or upset, remember not to watch a happy movie.A sad movie may be more suitable for you.
Some scientists at Ohio State University, the U.S.,have found that sad movies can make people happier. They published their study in a magazine called Communication Research.
Scientists asked 361 college students to watch a sad movie called Atonement. The movie tells a story of two lovers who were separated. They died during World War II at the end of the movie. The 361 college students answered questions from the scientists before, after and three times during the movie to find out their different feelings, including sadness.
According to the result of the survey, scientists found out that people felt better after watching the sad movie.Scientists believed this was because the movie made them think about their own lives and relationships.Compared to those of the unlucky lovers in the movie, their lives were full of hope.
"I want to live my life to the fullest, and this movie has made me think a lot," one student wrote.
Silvia Knobloch﹣Westerwick, the leader of the study, explained that bad moods (情绪) would make people more thoughtful. "Good moods are generally a sign that everything is fine. You don't have to worry, and you don't have to think about problems in your life," she said. "But bad emotions, like sadness, make you feel terrible about your situation. Therefore, seeing a sad movie may make you feel bad,but that will cause you to think more about your own close relationships and value them more."
