Most people use their mouths to talk, but do you know some people use their hands to speak? Some people who cannot bear use their hands to communicate messages to others. This is called sign language. These people make shapes with their fingers, movements with their hands, as well as different faces in order to talk to other people.

One way people speak with their hands is by making shapes for letters with their fingers. For example, if you make an "OK" sign with your thumb and finger, that is the shape for the letter "f" in American sign language. Each letter has a hand shape. This way people can spell words using their hands. For example, if you want to spell "fun", you need to make three shapes. First you make the shape for the letter "f", then the shape for the letter "u", and then the shape for the letter "n".

______.If you move your hand from your nose to your chin(下巴), you can say "mother" in American sign language. Of course, you have to use the correct hand shape, too. That shape is like holding

your hand open with all five fingers showing. If you move your hand from the top of your head to your chin, you can say "father". Again, you have to use the same hand shape that you used for "mother".

Finally, people can change their faces to communicate in a sign language. For example, if you want to ask a question, you need to make your eyebrows(眉毛)go up. You also need to move your head forward a little. If you want to say "I do not know", you need to make your eyes smaller and make your eyebrows go down.

(1)If you want to spell the word "nice", you need to make hand shapes.

A.one

B.two

C.three

D.four

(2)Which of the following can be put in the blank in Paragraph 3?

A. People also need to learn sign language

B. People also make hand shapes to communicate

C. People also move their hands to talk in a sign language

D. People also make different faces to express their meanings

(3)You need to use your to say "I do not know" in American sign language.

A. eyes and eyebrows

B. eyes and head

C. hand and head

D. fingers and eyes

(4)The purpose of the passage is to

A. help people know more about America

B. introduce American sign language to readers

C. teach readers how to make hand shapes

D. encourage people to use more sign language

Copenhagen is one of the best places in the world to be a bicyclist but there is a downside﹣﹣thousands of parked bicycles. Sometimes it gets out of control.

In 2014, when Copenhagen got its Cycle Snake﹣a new bicycle﹣only bridge ﹣the city edged even closer to being a cyclists' paradise.

There are in fact more bicycles in Copenhagen than people, five times as many bicycles as cars, and 400 km of cycle lanes﹣not shared with cars or pedestrians (行人)﹣for a city of about 600,000 people.

This has many advantages, such as cleaner air and physical fitness. If only more thought had gone into what happens when riders get off. Cycle parking is a big problem here.

Bikes are often parked on the pavement, taking up pedestrian space and blocking(堵住) entrances to shops and restaurants.

Outside Copenhagen's central train station, where people often leave their bikes for the weekend, plenty of cyclists are fed up. "There just isn't enough space," says Kirsten Hoeholt, a famous artiest.

While 95% of cyclists in the city are happy with conditions for cyclists overall, only 29% are satisfied with cycle﹣parking facilities﹣down from 40% in 1996.

One of Copenhagen's is that it has been growing rapidly. About 12,000 people are moving to the city each year, while only 7,000 new cycle parking spaces have been created over the last eight years.

One Dutch idea on its way to Copenhagen is taking away the bikes that are parked in the wrong areas. Leave your bike in the wrong place and you could find that it has been moved to nearby bicycle facilities.

A few years ago "bike﹣butlers" were introduced in some areas. The butlers pick up bicycles that have been knocked over, pump air into flat tyres and give the bike﹣chains a bit of oil, to thank people for parking properly.

(1)The last "paradise" in the fourth line means

A.factory

B.company

C.heaven

(2)There are about people in Copenhagen.

A.120,000

B.600,000

C.700,00

(3)Which of the following is NOT true?

A. There are in fact more bicycles in Copenhagen than people.

B. Only 29% are satisfied with cycle﹣parking facilities.

C. About 7,000 people are moving to the city each year.

(4)The last paragraph tells us to

A. punish the bicyclists

B. encourage the bicyclists

C. take away the bikes

(5)What does the passage mainly tell us?

A. The parking of the bikes in Copenhagen.

B. The repairing of the bikes in Copenhagen.

C. The creating of the bikes in Copenhagen.

A lot of people play sports, but very few people become sports professionals(专业人员). If sports aren't going to be your future, then why should you play them? Why should you train every day? Why should you work hard and feel sore(酸痛) the next day? Wouldn't it be better to forget sports and only pay attention to your lessons?

There are actually a lot of good reasons to play sports. First of all, sports are a great way to exercise. Exercising keeps you healthy and strong. It also helps you stay in a good state. When you exercise, your body produces endorphins(内啡肽). Endorphins give you more energy and make you feel happier.

Sports are important for everyone, but they are especially important for young people. They teach young people about winning and losing. Also, they teach young people how to communicate and work as a team. For example, when you play football, you must learn how to communicate with your teammates and work together. Sports teach young people to respect their coaches, teammates, and people they fight against as well.

Many reports say that sports help young people stay out of trouble. If a young person plays sports, he or she is less likely to have problems. This is because sports teach people about rules. They also teach people that if they work hard, they might succeed.

Another good way of sports is that they make people leave their houses. These days, a lot of people spend too much time watching television and playing video games. When you play sports, you go outside and exercise in the sun. You take in fresh air. All of these things are important.

You're probably not going to become a sports professional, but that doesn't matter. Sports will help you become a better and happier person. Sports will help you make friends and stay healthy. Here is another good reason to play sports: Sports are fun.

Who is smarter, human being or artificial intelligence(AI,人工智能)?The question swept the world a few months ago.In March 2016,AlphaGo,an AI program developed by Google, had the Go(围棋) match with Lee Sedol,a South Korean Go player. He is the world top player of this old Chinese game.

In October 2015,AlphaGo became the first computer program to beat a professional(职业的) human Go player. And this time,it beat Lee Sedol 4﹣1.

In fact, before the match, most people believed that Lee would certainly be the winner, because they didn't think that AI was good enough to beat the human mind. However, the result was disappointing. As a machine,AlphaGo would never get tired, while Lee Sedol was only a human and humans must have some weaknesses.

AlphaGo's wins over a human champion(冠军) show that computers can do more difficult tasks. Some people may worry whether computers are now smart enough to beat us at everything. But scientists say that is not the case.Real life problems can be more difficult than the Go game.Thomas Johnson,a scientist of AI said,"It's not hard to get a computer program to remember and produce facts. What is hard is getting computers to use knowledge in everyday situation."We believe we can use the technology of AI to improve the world.

45.The match between AlphaGo and Lee Sedol is mentioned at the beginning of the article mainly to

A.get the reader to think about AI

B.draw the reader's attention to AlphaGo

C.show how AI is usually tested

D.tell the reader AI has over the human brain

46.What was the result of the match?

A.Google program beat AlphaGo.

B.Lee Sedol won AlphaGo 4﹣1.

C.Lee Sedol was beaten.

D.Neither side won the match.

47.﹣Why did most people believe Lee would be the winner?

﹣Because

A.computers had weaknesses and also got tired

B.AlphaGo only beat a human Go player once

C.the Go game was invented by Chinese people

D.computers were not so smart as a human

48.What does Thomas Johnson probably agree with?

A.AI does better than humans in every situation.

B.It's hard for AI to beat the human at everything.

C.The development of AI could be harmful one day.

D.AI should be used to help us make difficult decisions.

Space vegetables are grown from seeds (种子). They have been taken to and brought back from outer space. The seeds are influenced by the radiation (辐射) and low gravity (重力) in outer space. When they are brought back to the earth, these seeds produce vegetables that are bigger, healthier and more nutritious (有营养的) than normal vegetables. People needn't worry, because space vegetables are actually very healthy.

Here are some facts that you should know about space vegetables:

Space vegetables are grown from seeds (A) which/that are carefully chosen. After seeds are brought back from space, (C) seeds from space ) theyare tested to make sure that the vegetables they grow will be safe to eat. There are no traces (痕迹) of radiation after testing.

Space vegetables are better for you than normal vegetables. (B) For example, space tomatoes stay fresh for twenty days, which is one week longer than normal tomatoes.

After genetically modified (转基因) food came into the market, people worried that they were eating unknown things. Unlike genetically modified food, space vegetables have not been genetically changed. This means that no new genes (基因) are put into the vegetables. (D) So they won't be harmful/do harm to your healthy . So they won't be bad for your health

In China, each year we produce about 150 million tons of city waste according to report.Where does the waste go? People usually burn or bury(埋)it.On the other hand, we receive waste from some developed countries. We get useful materials from it.What about the useless part? Still burned or buried. But is it a proper way?

Waste pollutes the environment, harms people's health and causes animals to die.It also gets in the way of green and sustainabledevelopment. We can't make money at the cost of the environment. We should leave clean water and green mountains to our next generations (一代人).

We are taking less waste from developed counties. From January 2018,China started to stop 24 kinds of waste coming into our country. And more laws and rules about dealing with waste have been made.Anyone who breaks the law will be punished.

China also tries to put waste into good use. One example is the waste electricity factories. They burn waste to make electricity in a green way, No harmful gases or water will get into the environment.

The Chinese government is encouraging people to do waste sorting (分类). Cities like Shanghai,Chongqing and Beijing have their own storing systems.More will join then soon.As President Xi Jinping said during a visit to Shanghai, waste sorting is a new fashion (时尚).More and more people are forming the habit of separating their waste.

When "A Youthful Asia" came out at the Asian Culture Carnival (嘉年华) , tears filled my eyes. It's Zhang Yixing, the singer and dancer standing there for us young people in China, and the very one who stopped me from falling.

Three years ago, my new school life began. As a junior boy from the countryside, I could hardly keep up. I tried, but still felt like an outsider. Nobody would pick me for teamwork. So I stayed in the corner, hanging my head low as if I didn't care. There was a fear in me that all my school life would be colorless.

Then on May 4, I was "colorless" in Yixing's book about his life. How could this be true for someone just named the youth idol (青年偶像)? I read the book again, smiling with the fun part of his childhood and touched by his promise to his mum.

Something wet my eyes when he joked about his training years in Korea. He doubled his practice, pushing himself so hard as to be called "the trainee (练习生) like god". He said it probably meant "the train like mad".

I might have tried, but not as hard as he did. "Whenever I feel I might be falling, I tell myself to hold on until I find my moment." Says Yixing. For me, this moment means a better self inside and a larger world outside. So I told myself I would also make a difference if I could hold on for a longer time.

Luckily, every Youth Day after that, Yixing would be there on CCTV, encouraging me with his progress. When someone asked him what color his training life was, Yixing smiled, "It's colorless. I don't know what color effort is."

But effort pays. Not he's standing at the Asian Culture Carnival, and I know he is looking forward to something even bigger.
