Animals are our friends. Sometimes they make trouble, but sometimes they can help us.And they hope to live a happy life, too. Here are two real stories from our readers.

One year, I had a fall at home and was on the floor for 16 hours, During this time, I was unable to move and couldn't get to the phone to call for help. Tiger stayed by my side until he disappeared under my bed. 'What's he up to?' I wondered. To my surprise, he started to push something towards me. It was my iPad,which I didn't realize had fallen off the bed and onto the floor. He probably didn't know what it was, but he knew that it made me happy. Thanks to Tiger, I was able to communicate with my friend, Becky, who then told my doctor."
The second story is from Colin. "Years ago, my friend Julius saved a bird﹣a wild 'Mom' cockatoo(鹦鹉) from the side of the road and kept it as a pet in a big cage(笼子).It lost one of her wings, so she was unable to return to the wild. In a few hours Sam would be flying to Germany. We looked at each other but no sound broke the silence of my beach﹣side house.
Such a moment was not the first time for me.On Sam's first day of kindergarten (幼儿园),I felt his stress when holding his hand.He looked at me﹣as he did now. But I said nothing till the school bus came.About ten years later,I drove him to the college. He was sick but I didn't know then. I thought he was just too tired. I tried to think of something to say as he would start a new period of life. Again,___________.
Now, as I stood before him, I thought of those opportunities we parents all let pass. A boy graduates from school,a daughter gets married. We seldom find a quiet moment to tell them what they have meant to us. Or what they might face in the future.

The night before he was to leave, I failed to say any words again. Maybe, I thought, it wasn't necessary to say anything.
What does it matter if a father never tells a son what he really thinks of him? But as I stood before Sam,I knew it does matter. My father and I loved each other. However,I always regretted never hearing him put his feelings into words.
"Sam,"I said,"if I could have picked,I would have picked you."I wasn't sure he understood what I meant. Sam came towards me and threw his arms around me,saying"thank you".My eyes misted over (模糊). Then, the moment ended, and Sam left home.
That was seven weeks ago, and now I think about him when I walk along the beach near my home on weekends. Thousands of miles away, Sam might be busy walking in the street of Berlin.

Since May 8, Boston Dynamics, doglike robot, Spot, has been in use at BishanAng Mo Kio Park in Singapore to help encourage social distancing during the COVID19 pandemic (新冠肺炎疫情) according to a report in the South China Morning Post.
Singpore’s government is funding the experiment of the robotic dog, which will last for two weeks at the park during offpeak(非高峰的) hours.
"The robot isn’t enforcing (强制 ). It’s just giving people information and encouraging them, "Boston Dynamics founder Marc Raibert told CNBC. "When Spot is patrolling(巡逻)the area, there’s a parks officer nearby who can do whatever enforcement he decides is suitable. "
Cameras fixed on Spot will scan the surroundings and help officers work out the number of visitors in the park, but they cannot read faces and won’t collect any personal information. It also carries a loudspeaker to broadcast a prerecorded message to remind visitors of the importance of social distancing.
Without enough manpower, Singapore is turning to robotics to reduce the manpower required for park patrols and remind people about the risks they may be putting themselves and others in.
The question, however, is whether their use of Spot will be a good tool or will or only attract more people to it instead.
If the twoweek experiment proves successful, the government will consider using Spot at the park during peak hours. Singapore will also do studies to see if it’s worth using other Spots in other parks. Katie Steller has her own salon (美发院). She often wheels her red chair and scissors around the city to give free haircuts.
Edward was her first lucky customer. He looked to be in his 60s. He was balding and missing a few teeth. While she was cutting his greying hair, he told her about moving closer to his adult children.
Till now, Steller has offered about 30 such haircuts. These people are all living a hard time, and she is aware of the power of her cleanup job.

Lisa and her dad were stuck in traffic. It seemed that it's always the case. When he took her to school in the morning ﹣ traffic. When he picked her up in the afternoon ﹣ traffic. Go to the supermarket, a birthday party, and what felt like ten hours of traffic was what they got.

"I WANT A MOBILE PHONE." "NO."
"What if I got stuck in a cave?"
"What?" asked her dad, trying not to laugh.
"What if I had a dog and the dog ran away, and I had to run after it. What if the dog ran into a cave, and I ran after the dog. In the cave there was a bear, and the bear trapped me, and …"
"And then you were stuck in the cave."
"Yes. It's a mother bear. She will eat me unless I have a mobile phone to call for help."
"If it's a mother bear, you can use her phone. Everyone knows mums always carry phones." Dad was laughing as he said this. Lisa didn't think it was very funny. Now she was angry. "If I had a mobile phone, I could play games on it!"
"If I had a boat, I could eat beef on it. That doesn't mean I'm getting one."
"No, but I mean if I could play games, I wouldn't be so bored when we were in traffic. I wouldn't trouble you!"
"I don't mind being troubled. I like talking to you." "Then I won't say anything at all!"
Dad smiled quietly to himself. "I'm going to call Mum to let her know we'll be late." He reached into his pocket. "Oh! My battery's dead."
"You know…if I had a mobile phone, I could call Mum," said Lisa. "Nice try."
Lisa smiled. She wasn't getting a phone, but she knew she was right, and that was almost as good.

Antarctica (南极洲) is at the southern end of the Earth. It is the coldest, driest and windiest place on our planet. What would it be like to live and work there?
On Oct 15, 50 Chinese researchers took a ship named Xuelong 2 from Shenzhen to Antarctica. Xuelong 2 is the first icebreaker (破冰船) made in China. It took two years to build Xuelong 2. It is reported that Xuelong 2 is one of the world's best research icebreakers.
Chinese researchers have been to Antarctica 35 times. Because of its unusual environment, researchers from around the world have been going there to do study (研究) for many years. Some studies can only be done in Antarctica. For example, there is little air pollution there. This makes it easier for scientists to study the weather, atmosphere (大气) and stars.
The study of Antarctica's geology (地质) is also important. Rocks in Antarctica can tell us what the weather was like long time ago, and help us understand how the Earth has changed over time. There are also many wild animals, such as penguins (企鹅),seals (海豹) and birds. Scientists can learn how animals live in cold places by studying them.
Xie Zhouqing is a professor at the University of Science and Technology of China. He was part of China's 15th research trip to Antarctica. He said, "Life in Antarctica is not easy.It is tiring and sometimes dangerous, but it is still quite fun." He also said,"I studied how penguins walk, what they eat, and why they move from one place to another. I was excited to see the cute animals playing around. I hope my studies can help protect them."
