English is the first language of several countries. However,it has many differences.British,American, and south African English are all spoken differently. In many English Language courses, the British and American different are taught. One is not more correct than the other, but there are important differences between the two.
Probably the biggest difference between American and British English is the vocabulary.Different words and expressions are used to talk about the same thing. For example,in the United States, people
throw their garbage into the trash can.In England, people throw their rubbish into the dustbin. In Britian, people take a lift to the fifth floor. In America, people take an elevator.
American and British grammar can be also different. For example, speakers of British English will
ask, what did you do at the weekend, but Americans usually say"on the weekend".In the United States
people usually say"I have gotten a new car.",but in the UK,they will say"I have just got a new car."
The pronunciation in American and British English is also different, and even when the spelling is the
same.The word"tomato"﹣﹣﹣pronounced"to﹣mah﹣to"in British English﹣﹣is a classic example of this.
Vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation are three ways English is different in different parts of the
world.Learning all this is not easy,so English learners should just know that they are always there.

Reading is fun! Besides for fun, we can also analyze (分析) texts to learn more from the texts and more about the texts. One way we can do this is by finding out the theme of the texts.
The theme of a text is the "big idea" that runs through the text, connecting the characters and events. It is what the writer wants to tell us through the story. Usually the theme of a text isn't told directly, you have to use clues (线索) in the text to find it out. ①Themes can be ideas like family, friendship, love and so on. The theme might not be just one word, but it might be an idea such as "Friendship is important." There may also be more than one theme in a story. How can we find out the theme of a text? The following steps may help you.
Read through the whole text Usually characters change as the story goes on, so the theme you get at the beginning might not be true at the end! For this reason, you need to read through the whole text first.
Find out the clue After reading the whole text, try to answer the following questions. What important events happened during the story? What was the problem? How did the problem get solved? How did the character(s) change? What did the character(s) learn? The answers may help you to get the clues.
Get the big idea Read again for the writer's purpose of the text by answering the following questions. Was most of the plot(情节) around friendship? Did the characters solve problems with their families? Did the main character learn the importance of friendship? If one of the answers is "yes", you may get the big idea.
Check the big idea out If you've found a "big idea", go through the text to find the evidence( 证 据 ) that supports this idea in the text. For example, if there was only one small problem with a character's family, then "family" might not be the theme of the text. You might find more evidence for other themes.
Have you got the way to find out the theme of a text?②Get your favorite book quickly and see if you can find the theme out!

Creating a study plan
Studying is important to students. But it is always difficult to find enough time to study every subject you need. So a good plan helps you to make sure of your success in study.
Then, how to make a study plan? Well, you can begin with listing all the subjects you need to study and make sure what you need to do for each subject. Next, you should decide how much time you should spend on different subjects. Now, it is a good idea to study at the same time every day. In this way, you actually have a plan you can remember easily. While arranging ( 安排) time for each subject, you also need to make sure that you still have time for family, friends and rest. This is because you won't be able to succeed in your studies unless you balance your personal life and your study.
Once the plan is made, the next thing you need to do is to follow it. One of the biggest challenges in following your study plan is that you will be tempted ( 诱惑) to avoid it and do something relaxing, or fun instead. Luckily, you can fight this temptation by taking breaks. But be sure not to take extra breaks or too long breaks as it can affect your plan. So at the start of your break, set an alarm clock to remind you when your break is over. Also, you need to use your break
wisely. For example, go for a short walk, eat a small snack, or listen to some music.
To avoid forgetting to follow your plan, try to get into the habit of looking at your calendar every day. Sometimes our plans are herd to follow because some important people in our lives distract ( 使分心) us from our goals. In order to avoid this, tell people in your life about your plan. Put up a copy of your study guide at home so you and your family can see it, and email a copy to your friends so they know when you have spare time.

China and Westen countries may have different ideas about certain animals, but when it comes to pigs,we have somehow reached an agreement﹣that pigs are ugly, lazy, stupid and shameless.
But the truth is that pigs do have some finer qualities( 品质). Science long ago proved that pigs aren′t stupid at all. A research shows pigs are"mentally and socially similar to dogs". They like to play. They have good long﹣term memories. And they know the difference between those who treat them well and those who don't.
There are lovable pig characters in cartoons too. Peppa Pig(小猪佩奇), for example,a UK television series (连续剧)that began in 2004, has now become one of the most popular cartoons in 180 countries and regions. The four members in the cartoons pig family teach children from all around the world about love, friendship, and the value of family, And in China, McDull, a young pig who works hard toward his dreams even though he keeps failing, have been a popular cartoon character since 2001.

Using iPads to Make Learning Fun
Paper, pencil, whiteboard, textbook are the tools you need if you want to go to school. But recently, you can add another one to the list:an iPad.
Because the popular Apple tablet is not only useful for searching the Internet and watching videos,
but it is also being used to make learning fun.
Scientists now know that we learn better when we are enjoying ourselves,so recently software developers have made iPad applications(应用程序) that look like video games, but have strong educational
content. One of the best examples of this new form of teaching application is Futaba, game in which up
to four children try to recognize a spinning(旋转的)object, and then identify what it is.The game can be used to teach English, math, foreign languages,or just about anything, and students love it.Teachers can even make their own questions. The important thing is that children enjoy the game, and don't even realize how much they are learning!

Though times have changed, falling asleep in class is still a common occurrence(常事)among teenagers.
Why do students sometimes fall asleep in class? An obvious reason is lack of sleep. However, there are also causes for getting too little sleep.
Homework is a daily occurrence for most students, one that can take three
to four hours per night. A teenager who wants to be able to take part in
any activity besides homework must stay up late to fit everything in. Club
activities, sports, computer﹣game playing, and TV viewing, for example, all contribute to (促成) teens having less time for both homework and sleep.Sometimes teens lack sleep because of after﹣school jobs that are taken on to earn extra money for college, family expenses, or simply for clothes.
Physical problems are another factor that can cause students to fall alseep in class. For example,
insomnia, which may keep a student up at night, causing exhaustion(疲惫不堪)during class hours,
is a serious problem that may require medical attention. Medical evidence also supports the idea that each person has a body clock that helps to decide his or her sleep pattern. Unluckily, these body clocks do not always work according to school timetables.
The effects of falling asleep in class can be quite serious. First of all, sleeping in class is not a good way to endear(使受喜爱) yourself to teachers. In addition, it is highly possible that other students may make jokes about those who sleep in class. However, the most harmful effect of sleeping in class is missing out on important points. In the long run, sleepers may end up failing classes.
Since teens are probably not going to deal with the problem, falling asleep in class will probably remain an all﹣too﹣common occurrence. It will continue until more teens find a way to balance their personal and social lives with school and work, while still finding enough time to sleep.
