COVID﹣19(新冠肺炎)is spreading all over the world. What should we do to prevent the virus(病毒)from spreading? Here are the suggestions.

First, we should seldom go out. It's easier to get sick outside. When we have to go out, we must wear face masks(口罩). Second, we should often open the windows in order to keep the air in the room fresh. Fresh air is good for us to keep healthy. Third, we ought to wash our hands many times a day, especially before meals and after going to the toilet. And each time we should wash them with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds. Fourth, make sure we have a good sleep at night. People who are tired or under stress can get sick easily, so it's important to have enough sleep. Lastly, we can do sports like walking or running slowly at home.

Everything will go well as long as we take good care of ourselves. We believe that we will win the fight soon.

(1)What must we wear when we go out?

(2)What should we often do to keep the air in the room fresh?

(3)How long should we wash hands each time?

(4)Why is it important to have enough sleep?

Many environmental groups are warning that oceans of the world are in great danger. In the past 50 years, the number of water with zero oxygen(氧气) in the open ocean has increased more than four times. In the near coast water bodies, including the river mouth and seas, low﹣oxygen areas have increased more than 10 times since 1950.Scientists discover that oxygen continues dropping ever outside these zones as the Earth warms. To stop the drop, the world needs to control in both climate change and nutrient(养分) pollution.

Oxygen is a must to life in the oceans. The drop in ocean oxygen is among the most serious effects of human activities on the Earth's environment.

This is the first time for the scientists to take such a deep look at the causes, results and solutions to low oxygen worldwide, in both the open ocean and the near coast waters.About half of the oxygen on Earth comes from the ocean. However, mixed effects of nutrient loading and climate change are greatly increasing the number and size of "dead zones" in the open ocean and the near coast waters, where oxygen is too low to support most sea life.

In the areas traditionally called"dead zones". like those in Chesapeake Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, oxygen drops to levels so low that many animals have trouble in breathing and die.As fishes run away from these zones, their living areas become smaller and smaller. But the problem goes far beyond "dead zones". Even smaller oxygen drops can hold up the growth in animals and lead to disease or even death. Low oxygen also can cause the release of dangerous chemicals.Although a few animals can grow well in dead zones, overall biodiversity(多样性)falls.

(1)How to stop the drop of ocean oxygen in the article?

A.

By controlling in both climate change and nutrient pollution around the world.

B.

By taking a deep look at the causes, results and solutions to low oxygen worldwide.

C.

By running away from these zones, for the living areas become smaller and smaller.

D.

By cutting down the number of animals in the oceans.

(2)Why are these waters called"dead zones" from the article?

A.

Because the oxygen in these areas is too low for most sea life to live.

B.

Because nutrient loading and climate change are greatly increasing.

C.

Because there are no animals living in these areas.

D.

Because low oxygen also can cause the release of dangerous chemicals.

(3)Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the article?

A.

Only a few animals living in the sea need oxygen.

B.

Climate change can help cut down the dead zones.

C.

Fishes grow faster and better in low oxygen areas.

D.

Human activities have many serious effects on ocean environment.

Trees are one of the oldest" citizens(公民)" of our Earth. They keep our air clean , reduce noise pollution, improve water quality and provide food and building materials.

Just like us, trees change a lot as they grow. At I to 3 years old, young trees learn how to protect themselves. For example, many trees grow thorns(刺)to warn animals not to go near. Most young tree have large, deep green leaves so that they can catch enough sunlight and change it into their food and energy.

When trees are 4 years old, they begin to grow very rapidly and become strong enough to face challenges later in life. At the age of 15, trees become young adults. They grow more slowly and begin to produce flowers and fruit.

When you think of the Arctic (北极), you imagine an icy land of pure white snow. Others imagine it as the last really clean place left on earth. We have polluted the deepest oceans with plastic rubbish. "And now", CNN says, "It's the Arctic's turn."

German scientists have recently found microplastics in Arctic snow. Microplastics are pieces of plastic smaller than 5 millimeters. Sadly, the scientists found 1800 pieces of microplastics per liter of (每升) snow.

How is plastic pollution reaching the Arctic? According to scientists, "It's clear that most of the microplastics in the snow come from the air." They fall off the plastic objects and are moved by the wind, just like dust. They mix with ice in the air and fall to the ground as snow. Finding these plastics in Arctic snow means that we may breathe them in.

Are they bad for us? Scientists cannot answer this question for now, according to the WHO. We do know that our bodies cannot take in "large" pieces of microplastics. However, if the plastics are small enough, they can find ways into our bodies and stay there for a long time, which can be bad for our health. What's more, earlier studies have shown that microplastics may contribute to lung cancer risk.

Microplastics have also been found in rivers and oceans around the world. Earlier research has found that they flow over long distances and into our oceans, hurting ecosystems along the way. They start in our wastewater, then flow into rivers and out to the sea, where they are eaten by sea animals. If people then eat these animals, it means that we're eating the plastic as well.

A zero﹣waste life is a lifestyle that hardly creates any rubbish. So, a zero﹣waste store is about providing a kind of everyday and pleasant﹣looking zero﹣waste products to help people start on a zero﹣waste life journey.

"Zero waste" or "danshari" was first suggested by a French woman called Bea Johnson. Her idea is: live a life and try not to create any rubbish; use different kinds of ways to save the environment such as stopping the use of one﹣off objects; giving unwanted things to others or giving them away to organizations like the Red Cross.

Yu Yuan, 27, is deeply interested in this idea. She and her boyfriend have lived in Beijing for many years. Most products sold in the store can be reused. The store also has second﹣hand books and CDs/DVDs with, ideas to make the best of the used things.

"Those who once experienced the non﹣waste lifestyle have slowly changed their ideas," says Ya, "The zero﹣waste lifestyle is not for ascetics (苦行僧). It is just around us at our finger﹣tips." Yu expects some of her friends to join her on the road to zero waste.

Do video games do harm to our children?Today, many children spend a lot of their free time playing games on the Internet. In the UK,99%of kids aged8 to 15 play video games every week. This information tells us that the benefits and dangers of video games must be carefully considered.

For many people, video games are fun. They have bright lights, funny cartoons and exciting stories.Everywhere you look, you can see children playing these games. They play on buses and trains,in restaurants and even at school.

Video games are educational too. They make kids think in a creative way and theyhave to move their hands and eyes quickly. This can improve the way that a child's brain works. What's more, video games make children use their imagination. The player has to do many creative things, like drawing, telling stories and building things.Video games are also a good way to teach children about technology because they can learn how computers and other devices work while they play.

However,a recent study suggests that video games can also be bad for children.First, children can download many games for free. This means that parents often don't know if their children are playing violent or scary games.Second, many children spend too much time playing games on computers and this can lead to health problems.Third,if children spend too much time playing games instead of doing homework, they can have problems at school and get bad grades. Finally, video games can affect children's social skills. If children spend too much time playing video games by themselves, they might not learn how to play with their friends.

In conclusion,it seems clear that video games have some advantages and some disadvantages. It is up to parents to know what games their children are playing and how much time they spend on them.Parents should also make sure their children get enough exercise and spend time with other children.

Dogs might have the latest tools in the fight against cancer (癌症):their noses!Researchers at California's Pine Street Foundation (PSF) say they have trained five dogs to smell cancer on a prison's breath. This could be exciting news.

A dog's sense of smell may be 10,000 to 100,000 times stronger than ours. But can dogs really smell illness?PSF researcher Michael McCulloch says yes. "We were very surprised by how exact they were," he said. "They were telling who had cancer, and they were also saying who didn't."

McCulloch and his team asked four healthy people and one with cancer to blow into plastic tubes (塑料管).Special materials in the tubes kept the things of each breath. The tubes were then placed one yard apart. Finally the dogs were allowed to smell the tubes. Each dog had been trained for three weeks to sit when it smelled cancer.Ninety﹣nine percent of the time, the dog sat next to the tubes blown into by patients with lung cancer. The dogs were right 88 percent of the time about breast cancer.

Dogs in the Pine Street Foundation test were trained to sit when they smelled cancer. How well did they perform?Take a look at this chart to find out.

Breath Sample

Number of Times the Dogs Sat Down

Number of Times the Dogs Kept Standing

Breath from lung cancer patients

564

10

Breath from healthy persons

4

720

No lab test for cancer has given more correct results than this test. The results are so amazing that many experts question the dogs' smelling power. They wonder if there were other reasons why the dogs did so well. For example, they thought the way the dog trainers behaved could have influenced how the dogs acted. However, most experts agree that this study is important. The information could help scientists create a simple breath test for cancer in the future.Once again humans may be getting a helping paw or nose﹣from their best animal friends.

(1)What's the latest tool a dog might have in the fight against cancer?

A.Tooth.

B.Nose.

C.Ear.

(2)What happened first in the Pine Street Foundation test?

A.The dogs were trained.

B.The tubes were placed one yard apart.

C.The dogs smelled the tubes.

(3)What was a dog supposed to do when it smelled cancer?

A.Smell again.

B.Turn around.

C.Sit down.

(4)Look at the chart. How many times did the dogs keep standing when they smelled the breath from healthy persons?

A.Less than 10 times.

B.Almost 600 times.

C.About 700 times.

(5)Why do many experts question the dog's smelling power?

A.Because no lab test for cancer has given more correct results.

B.Because the dog trainers influenced how the dogs acted.

C.Because they don't think this study is important.

Eight years ago, 1﹣week﹣old Diandian was left behind. When people found her in the reeds (芦苇) of a lake, she looked too weak to survive. Now she is the mother of three milu, thanks to the workers' attention and care at the East Dongting Lake National Nature Reserve.

Li is the president of a milu conservation association in Yueyang and head of a local milu and bird rescue center, where 11 deer, including Diandian, have their families. Li and his workmates need to work extra hours to take care of the animals from March until mid﹣May. He remembers March 18 this year. He fed Diandian some fresh shoots and leaves for breakfast as usual, and moments later when he returned,a newborn milu was right beside her. Since it is her third baby and born in the third month of the year, people named it Sansan, referring to "three﹣three". Li has developed a deep affection for milu and made up his mind to protect them. "As our country is paying more attention to environmental and wildlife protection, people are increasingly aware that milu are state﹣protected animalsm," Li said.

Milu habitats (栖息地) are usually centered around water, and fishing equipment that used to be a threat to the animals is no longer seen in nature reserves. On May 27, a team of experts went to watch milu near Dongting Lake. It takes time and luck to meet one and count them especially when they live in the thick reeds that are 4 to 5 meters tall. The team leader Song, saw a milu for the first time when he was studying for his doctorate in zoology early in 2009. Since then, he has helped protect the habitats at Dongting Lake. As the flood season is coming, Song and his workmates will go around the lake area day and night to save deer in trouble, and provide feed for the animals when needed.

As the environment improves in and around Dongting Lake, China's second﹣largest freshwater lake, the wetland has become cover once again for wildlife. "We will continue to protect these rare animals and their living environment," Song said.

You don' t have to be a scientist to solve big environmental problems. One Dutch designer is finding creative ways to make a change﹣and he's inviting bikers to join him.

Daan Roosgaarde, 38, is a designer from Holland. He uses creative ideas to improve city life. For his Smog (雾霾) Free Project, he designed a special tower that cleans air in Chinese parks. In Holland, he designed a shining bicycle path.

Now Daan and his team are working with engineers at Chinese bike﹣sharing company Ofo to create a new product for public use. It's an air﹣cleaning machine connected to a bicycle and is part of the Smog Free Project. In smoggy weather, the machine would breathe in the air in front of the bike and blow out a stream of clean air toward the biker's face.

It's no secret that air pollution is a big problem for China. In winter, it's common for thick clouds of haze (霾), caused largely by factory production, burning of coal and car emissions (排放物), to cover areas of China.

In 2016, only one﹣fourth of Chinese cities met the country's air quality standards, according to a survey of 338 cities nationwide from the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

"Of course one tower and a few bikes won't solve China's air pollution problem," Daan said, "But smog﹣free bikes are an exciting idea that will hopefully inspire communities to create greener cities."
