Once a king got two nice falcons(猎鹰) from his son. He had never seen such beautiful falcons
before. He loved them so much and he ordered the best falconer to train them to fly.
After several months, the king came to see how the training was going on. He found that one falcon had already been able to fly high in the sky, while the other one was staying on the branch(树枝) of a tree quietly without moving.
The king called all his falconers together and ordered them to try every way they could to make it fly. But none of them succeeded. One day, while the king was taking a walk in the forest, an idea came to his mind. He decided to find someone who knew the natural environment well to solve the problem. Then he sent for a farmer who lived in the forest into his palace to train it at once.
The next morning, the king saw the other falcon flying above in the sky freely. "It is unbelievable!" shouted the king. "How could you make it happen?"
The farmer replied, "It's very easy. I just cut off the branch where the falcon rested." It is always the same to humans. We all have "two flying wings in our hearts as well, but we often seem not to notice them and stay where we feel safe and comfortable. We won't realize we can fly so high and freely until the "branch" we are resting on breaks.
(1)Where did the king get the falcons?
(2)Why did the king ask the farmer to train the falcon?
(3)What did the farmer do to make the falcon fly?
(4)What do you think of the farmer?
(5)To reach high, can we stay where we feel safe and comfortable?
There was a man who had four sons.He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them to go and look at a pear tree far away in turns.
The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third insummer, and the youngest son in the fall.
When they had all gone and come back,he called them together to describe what they had seen.
The first son said that the tree was ugly. The second son said no; it was covered with green leaves, and full of hope. The third son disagreed. He said there were many flowers that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful,it was the most wonderful thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all of them,he said there was lots of fruit in the tree, full of life and harvest(收获).
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, but they had each seen only one season in the tree's life.He told them"You cannot judge a tree,or a person by only one season and its true nature﹣the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be judged at the end, when all the seasons are up."
If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, harvest of your fall.Don't let the pain of one season kill the joy of all the rest.

As young students. you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize; they can also be small, such as becoming one of the best students in your class.
Once you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dream come true?
Andrew Matews, an Australian writer, tells us that making your dreams come true is life's biggest challenge. You may think you're not very good at some school subjects, or that it's impossible for you to become a writer, Those kinds of ideas stop you from realizing your dream.
In fact, everyone can realize his dream. The first thing you must do is to remember what
your dream is. Don't let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want every day and
then your dream will come true faster. You should know that a big dream is,in fact, made up of many small dreams.
You must also never give up your dream, There will be difficulties on the road to your dreams. But the biggest difficulty comes from you. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of watching TV will help you to get better exam results, while saving five yuan instead of buying an ice cream means you can buy a new book.
As you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. This is good as you have the chance to learn something more useful and find new hobbies.

Each of us has dreams and goals for our future. What makes us study and make progress each day is closely connected with our personal dream and goal.
But why do you have dreams and goals, you still end up with nothing? What separates successful people from the dreamers is their persistent (锲而不舍的) action. When you learn your lessons in school, you must work hard and not give up.You will often find some of your lessons very hard.Try and keep trying, and you'll be sure to successfully deal with any difficulty you meet with.If we have a hard lesson today, let us try our best to learn it well and then we shall be prepared for a harder one tomorrow.
This is the famous formula(公式) for success:
Dream > Believe > Achieve
Most people have what they want (Dream) and think they can realize their dreams (Believe). And then they do nothing. They just imagine their dreams can come true. When they get tired waiting and lose a lot, they get bored. They say angrily how terrible their life is.
I personally believe that if you really want to achieve your dreams and goals in life, you have to add one thing to your success formula:
Dream > Believe > Act > Achieve
For me,act is the most important thing for success and that's to Take Persistent Action (Act). If you say, "I can't do it" and give up,you can never do anything valuable. However, "I'll try" creates wonders.Let's remember that there will be obstacles in our life.We must face them bravely and solve them.Success is not something that falls down from the sky. Most successful people made their dreams come true because of their persistent action.
Please remember:Action is the bridge that connects our dreams and goals to reality.
(1)What should you do when you find your lessons very hard?
A.Ask people for help.
B.Try and keep trying.
C.Get ready to create wonders.

(2)Which does the writer add to the famous formula?
A.Act.

C.Connect.
D.Create.
(3)What does the underlined word "obstacles" mean?
A.Dangers.
B.Imaginations.
C.Wonders.
D.Difficulties.
(4)Why does the writer use the formula "Dream > Believe > Act > Achieve"?
A.To support his idea.
B.To ask readers to explain it.
C.To show what his goals are.
D.To compare it with a bridge.
(5)Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.Doing Something Valuable
B Studying Hard and Making Progress
C.Realizing Dreams with Persistent Action
D.Separating Successful People from Dreams
A poor farmer had a friend who was famous for the wonderful apples he grew.

He was afraid that if he planted the tree near the road, strangers would steal the fruit. If he planted the tree in one of his fields, his neighbors would come at night and steal some of the apples. If he planted the tree near his house, his children would take the fruit.
Finally he planted the tree in his woods (树林) where no one could see it. But without sunlight and good soil, the tree soon died.
Later the friend asked the farmer why he had planted the tree in such a poor place. "What's the difference?" the farmer said angrily."If I had planted the tree near the road, strangers would have stolen the fruit. If I had planted the tree in one of my fields, my neighbors would have come at night and stolen some of the apples. If I had planted it near my house, my own children would have taken the fruit."

Title:Inner voice helps a lot throughout our lives.
When you couldn't open your mouth till the first two years on the earth, inner voice helps you understand things.Inner voice always shows thoughts and ideas in the body.
It justifies (判断) what is right and what is wrong. When we go against inner voice,we usually feel uncomfortable throughout our lives.
Sometimes when we are feeling sad,we seem to need some kind of support in spirit. We usually speak to our closest friend or our dearest family member during times of unhappiness to feel better. After talking to them,we suddenly feel active again, because our inner voice reminds us to get on with things and leave the things of the past in the memory.
Inner voice is always right most of the time, because it knows us better than others and even ourselves. It's good to go by inner voice most of the time.Whenever you are trying to smoke,or whenever you are asked to choose one side in an argument, you are always worried about the result.During these times, your inner voice tells you what to do.If you don't follow your inner voice, you might be unhappy in the future. It's our own choice to either pay no attention to our inner voice or follow it and search for real happiness.

We often reach a point in our life when we should be ready for change that will help us unlock our self﹣improvement power. However, there's always something staring at us right under our nose but we don't see it. The only time we think of unlocking our self﹣improvement power is when everything gets worst.
When do we realize that we need to change diets? When none of our shirts and jeans would fit us. When do we stop eating candies and chocolates? When all of our teeth have fallen off. When do we realize that we need to stop smoking? When our lungs have gone bad. We see the warning signs and signals when things get rough and difficult.
The only time most of us ever learn about unlocking our self﹣improvement power is when the whole world is falling apart. We think and feel this way because it is not easy to change, but change becomes more painful when we ignore(忽视) it.
Change will happen, like it or hate it. At one point or another. we are all going to finally unlock our self﹣improvement power not because the world says so,but because we realize it's for our own good.
Happy people don't just accept change; they embrace (拥抱)it. Unlocking our self﹣improvement power means unlocking ourselves out of the box of thought that is just the way we are. It is such a poor excuse for people who fear change.
Jane always tells everyone that she doesn't have the courage to be around groups of people. She heard her family tell the same things about her to other people. Over the years, that is what Jane has believed. Every time a great crowd come, she steps back and locks herself up in a room. Jane not only believes in her story, but lives it!
Self﹣improvement may not be everybody's favorite word, but if we look at things in a different way, we might have greater chances of enjoying the whole process instead of counting the days until we are fully improved. Three sessions in a week at the gym would result in a healthier life. Reading books every day would build up knowledge. And only when we are enjoying the whole process of unlocking our self﹣improvement power will we realize that we're beginning to take things light and become happy.

I came to the United States from Africa to live with my uncle Jim in Maryland. One year later,I lost my sight because of a serious illness.
Jim told me not to go out.He worried I would get lost or hit by a car.But I was dogged.I told him I'd pay attention.I believed I'd succeed.I must succeed.I must put my will into action.I dreamed of being a broadcaster.
Then a neighbor told me that a public library in Washington D.C.was offering a free course, specially designed for blind people,This was an important chance for me.
But how would I map my way?I knew that the American singer Ray Charles, also blind, got around on his own without a cane (手杖).His secret was to count steps. But I couldn't seem to do that way.Instead I developed my imagination.sensing the layout (布局)of places I Visited and taking notes of landmarks in my mind.
At first,I would have to stop to imagine and map a new space in my mind,The next time I visited that place,I'd use that to find the way.Today.I am used to doing it,But I've still lost my way many times.I'd have to swallow my pride to ask for help, not thinking what others think or say about me.
Sometimes I'd be down and I'd consider giving up.Perhaps my uncle was right.Maybe I'd stay home and wait until someone came to help.On those days when I lost my way,I'd go to bed with a bad feeling.▲.I had e strong wish 10 bear blindness and be successful, and that was usually enough to get me out of bed the next day and try again.

Mr. and Mrs. March lived together with their four daughters. Amy was very shy. Beth loved being at home. Meg looked very pretty. Jo was tall and thin and she was a tomboy.. Their home was always busy and full of noise and people. Next to them lived old Mr. Laurence and his grandson, Laurie. They lived in a very large and comfortable house. But it was a house without life.
One day, Joe saw Laurie standing at an upstairs window in his house and looking down at their garden. Jo's sisters were playing in the snow there. They were throwing snowballs and having a lot of fun. But Laurie's face was very sad.
"Poor boy!" Jo thought. "He's all alone. He needs some friends." She couldn't stop thinking about him. She wanted to go and see him, but how could she go to the house without an invitation?
Then one snowy afternoon, she saw Laurie's grandpa go out. This gave her an idea. She took a broom from the kitchen.
"What are you going to do, Jo?" asked her sister Meg.
"To clear the garden path." Answered Jo.
When Laurie saw Jo from the window, a big smile changed his pale, sad face.
Jo laughed and shouted, "How are you? Are you ill?"
Laurie opened the window and said," I'm better now, thank you. I had a bad cold and had to stay inside for a week".
"I'm sorry," said Jo. "Are you bored?"
"Yes, very." he replied.
"Don't your friends come to visit you?"
"No. But I don't want to see anybody. Boys are noisy and they give me a headache."
"Girls are quiet."
"I don't know any girls."
"You know us."
"That's true! Can you come and visit me?" cried Laurie.
" I'm not quiet, but I'd like to come," replied Jo. "I must ask Mother first." She ran back into her house.
A few minutes later, she returned and rang the bell on the door of laurie's house. A servane took her upstairs.
"Here I am!" she said brightly. "Mother sends her love and my sisters gave me this blancmange (牛奶冻) for you."
"That looks delicious," Laurie said. He was very happy to see Jo.
Jo looked around. There were lots of books on the shelves.
"A nice room!" she said. "I can read to you if you like."
"No, let's talk," replied Laurie.
"All right," said Jo, "I can talk for hours. My sisters say I never know when to stop."
"You have three sisters﹣Amy, Beth and Meg." Laurie continued.
"How do you know this?" Jo was surprised.
"You call each other's names when you are in the garden. Sometimes I can see you all around the table with your mother. She has a very kind face. I like looking at her. I haven't got a mother."
Jo felt sad when she heard this.
"Why don't you come and visit us?" she said, "It isn't good for you to stay in this house all the time."
"Thank you. I'd like to come very much." Said Laurie.
"We know all our neighbours except you." Jo said, " I'm glad we're friends now."
She told him about all the interesting things in her life. She said," Besides(除了……之外) plays, I also love books." Laurie loved books too, and offered to show her the library in the house. The library was a wonderful room. Jo loved it.
"Wow!" she said, "All those books!"
Laurie said, "A person needs more than books."
