Chen Yu jie ,15, studies at a boarding school in Ningbo, Zhejiang. She used to go back to her home in Cixi every week to get money from her parents. It was not a short ride home and the trips were tiring. Chen hoped her parents could put the money on a bankcard, so she didn't have to travel so often.

She decided to discuss it with her parents during TV time after dinner. "It's usually the most relaxing time for our family," said Chen. She picked the right time. After a few turns of lobbying (游说),she made it.

For most teenagers like Chen, opening up to parents can be difficult﹣especially when it comes to important things. Therefore, they have to make sure the timing is right.

US magazine Highlights recently polled(对……进行民意测验) 1,521 kids age of 6﹣12 in the country about that.

American kids seem to know when their parents are most receptive (能接纳的). Mealtime turns out to be their most favorite time to open up to their parents. Bedtime comes second, followed by time spent in the car.

Chinese teenagers seem to be similar. A survey organized by Qianjiang Daily, a newspaper based in Hangzhou, found that most teenagers in the city would choose mealtime to chat with their parents, mainly discussing the problems on their study.

So do you have anything to open up to your parents about? Choose a good time.
