There was once a young man walking down the streets of Rome, from one end of the city to the other, on his way to visit a relative. While walking, he happened to a beautifully impressive church and heard sounds coming from the building. They sounded like a lot of pounding(冲击).
Deciding to satisfy his , he approached the building, opened the heavy door and looked inside the church. Well , all he could was an old man in front of a big piece of marble , the marble with a chisel(凿子) and hammer.
“Well , it must be something very ,” the young man probably thought to himself, “ he doesn’t even notice me.” He then left the church and continued with his .
Several days later, he returned on the same . It seemed that the old man was still going at it, so he decided to ask him what he was doing.
He again went to the door, opened it and looked inside. To his , there was a big statue of an angel with wings spreading out wide open, light on it through the stained glass windows, and it the front of the church.
He could not help it but the next moment he was right next to the old man, his jaw hanging wide open. He with absolute amazement and a puzzled look on his face. He just could not understand how the old man knew that there was an angel in that piece of and he could not help but him, “Sir , how did you know that there was an in that piece of marble?”
The old man and replied, “Son, there is an angel in every one of us. All we need to do is to take a hammer and a chisel and chip away at all those little piece that do not look like an angel.”

The opening and closing of doors are the most significant actions of man’s life. What a lies in doors!
No man knows what awaits him when he opens a door. the most familiar room, where the clock ticks and the hearth glows red at dusk may harbor .The worker may actually have called and the leaking pipe. The cook may have been ill and demanded her passport.
There are many kinds of doors. Revolving doors for hotels, shops and public buildings. There are many the busy, bustling ways of modern life. Can you William Shakespeare or Charles Dickens skipping through a door? There are double doors, sliding doors, stage doors and glass doors. The and mystery of a door lies in its quality of being hidden. A glass door is not a door at all, but a window. The meaning of a door is to what lies inside; to keep the heart in suspense.
Also, there are many ways of opening doors. There is the cheery of elbow with which the waiter opens the kitchen door. There is the sympathetic and awful of the dentist’s maid who opens the door into the operating room and, without speaking, that the doctor is ready for you.
The opening of doors has in it some flavor of the , some sense of moving into a new moment. Even in , the opening of a door may bring relief. But the closing of doors could be , A door closed brings to an end. And there are degrees of sadness in the closing of doors. A door slammed is a confession of weakness. A door shut may often be the most tragic gesture in life.
The opening and closing of doors is a part of the serious fluency of life. Life will not stay and let us alone. We are opening doors with hope, closing them with despair. Life not much longer than a pipe of tobacco, and destiny knocks us out like the ashes.

Years ago, I had the opportunity to conduct a seminar. This was a motivational one basically designed to people in changing their lives, their personal barriers in life.
It was always to meet the seminar attendees. Some of them couldn’t wait to get started, others were about what they would get for their money, and others attended often being forced by pressure.
This last group was always the most to work with. They sit there with crossed, rarely participating in any of the specific exercises meant to help them build positive behaviors to old habits and thoughts.
In the end, I started to look through the evaluations paying particular attention to find the form submitted by one of the attendees who had seemingly less attentiveness. To my disappointment, in this , there was no form. I left that day thinking that I had this person.
As I my preparation for the next seminar afterwards, one day I received a phone call —it was the attendee who had not submitted the evaluation form! My immediate was to prepare for a request for a total refund(退款).
It was not the case, . He took his time to tell me how much the seminar had already helped him change his ways, and how much more comfortable he was with himself now that he knew how to overcome his own personal barriers success both personally and professionally. I was surprised and glad to be to him.

Have you ever seen a movie in which a building was burned down or a bridge was destroyed? Have you seen films in which two trains crashed or a ship into the ocean? If , you may have wondered how these things could happen without the actors and actresses in the film.
The man who knows the is the “special-effects” man. He has one of the most important in the film industry. He may be ordered to a flood or to make a battlefield explode. But he may also be told to create a effect which is much less exciting, just as important to the success of the film.
In a for one movie there was a big glass bowl filled with water in which small fish were swimming. The director of the movie the fish to stop swimming suddenly they seemed to stare at (盯着看) an actor. Most people need hear those “three little words”—I love you. Once in a while, they hear them just in time.
I met Connie the day she was to the ward(病房), where I worked as a(n) . Her husband, Bill, stood nearby as she was transferred to the hospital bed. Although Connie was in the final stages of her fight cancer, she was alert(机敏的) and cheerful. We got her . I finished marking her name on all the hospital supplies she would , and then asked if she needed other things.
“Oh, yes,” she said, “Would you please me how to use the TV? I enjoy the soaps so much and I don’t want to get behind on what’s happening.” As we became , she told me how 44 it was to be married for 32 years to a man who often called her “a silly woman”.
“Oh, I know Bill loves me,” she said, “but he has been one to say he loves me, or send cards to me.” She . “I would give anything if he’d say ‘I love you,’ but it’s just not in his .”
Bill visited Connie every day. In the , he sat next to the bed while she was the soaps. Later, when she began more, he paced up and down the hallway outside her room. Soon, when she no longer watched television and had waking moments, I began spending more of my volunteer time with Bill.
A few days later, when I knew from the head nurse that Connie , I went into the room to say my own to Connie. There, on the table, was a large Valentine card from Bill that says, “To my wonderful ... I love you.”

When I settled in Chicago, my new city seemed so big and unfriendly. Then I had a problem and had to go to hospital for a examination.
It seemed a small compared to the one I was about to face, but things started to go right from the beginning. Not having a car or the city, I was depending on a couple of buses to get me from A to B. I’d left myself plenty of time, soon it was that I was going to be late, as I had mistakenly boarded a bus that was taking me in the direction.
I the bus and stood on the pavement not knowing what to do. I looked into the eyes of a who was trying to get past me. instead of moving on, she stopped to ask if I was . After I explained my to her, she pointed to a bus stop across the street, a bus would take me back into the city to my appointment. Sitting there waiting, I felt that someone had been willing to help. , hearing a horn (喇叭) nearby, I looked up to see a car with my new friend at me to get in. She had returned to offer me a to the hospital.
Such unexpected from a passer-by was a lovely gift to receive. As I climbed out of the car at the hospital and turned to thank her, she smiled and told me not to lose , for all things are possible.
