Before long the   37  turned from stories about Mearl to stories of how she changed and   38   the lives in the room.
Her daughter Carol, said, “Just a few hours before Mom died she said she wanted to go home. I asked her if she   39    back to her apartment. She said, ‘NO!’ I asked, ‘Home in Heaven?’‘YES!’”
A series of love and   40   was realized that night. Mearl had lived a life that affected the young and old   41  . When she did so, you became a different person, a   42   and reformed person. She was   43  that way. She knew how to show the things that really   44 in the life. She   45  for values that she held dear and she always seemed to know how to influence people and to accept them “as is”. He grandkids talked of her   46  acceptance of them, no matter what.
Some things have to be seen to be understood, such as love, forgiveness and acceptance. Mearl knew how to help you   47  . She had always shown total   48   to the family and friends – to people.
The next day Mearl was   49  the topic. We buried the body, but she lives in all those, present and   50  . She is always there, giving and loving.

Nearly two decades has passed, I still remember my favourite professor, James Sehwartz. Whenever he smiles, it’s as if you’d just been told the funniest joke on earth. Almost all his students are his friends, and almost all his students know his life story.
When James was a teenager, his father   36   him to a fur factory where he worked . This was during the Great Depression. The   37   was to get James a job.
James entered the factory, and immediately felt as if the   38  had closed in around him. The room was dark and hot, the windows covered with dust, and the   39   were packed tightly together, running like trains. The fur hairs were flying,   40  a thickened air, and the workers,   41   the pieces of fur together, were bent over their needles   42   the boss marched up and down the rows, searching for them to go faster .James could hardly   43  . He stood next to his father, frozen with fear, hoping the boss wouldn’t   44   at him, too.
During lunch break, his father took James to the boss and pushed him in front of him,   45 if there was any work for his son. But   46   there was hardly enough   47   for the adult labours, for no one would give it up once he took a job.
Thus, for James, it was a   48 . He hated the place. He made a   49   that he kept to the end of his life: he would never do any work that brought   50   to someone else, and he would never allow himself to   51   money off the seat of others.
“What will you do?” his mother, Eva, would ask him.
“I don’t know,” he   52   say. He ruled out law, because he didn’t like   53  , and he ruled out medicine, because he couldn’t take the   54   of blood.
“What will you do?”
55  , my best professor I ever had became—he thought it was the job not to hurt anybody.

Before setting out, I told Barrett this trip would be tiring and 37. For the first two days, he said almost nothing. I worried the trip was too 38 for a 17-year-old. Then, on Day three, as we were 39 over high rocky mountains, he turned to me and grinned(咧嘴笑), “Pretty hard. ”
After that there was no turning back. A five-year-old girl, wearing a dress several sizes 40 large and broken shoes, followed Barrett around, mesmerized (着迷). He couldn’t stop 41 . When leaving for home, Barrett even offered to stay 54 as a volunteer. My insides suddenly felt struck. This 55 achieved all I’d expected. Soon he will celebrate his 18th birthday. He’ll be a man.

One of the most common social fears is that we are not good enough. Perhaps you feel you won’t   21   others because they are more confident, successful, intelligent or attractive than you. Such thinking is misguided. The   22   of doing well is accepting yourself as you are.
When I was a student, I kept a diary filled with   23   memories. Some were painful memories from   24   when I felt hurt, confused, lonely and insecure. I   25   pieces of dreams and personal feelings of anger and hatred,   26   things I enjoyed such as magic shops and coin dealers.
Then a terrible thing happened.   27   dinner one night I realized I had left my diary in the cloakroom(衣帽间)outside the campus dining hall.   28   that somebody might read it and find out the truth about me, I   29   back, but it was gone.
Weeks passed, and eventually I gave up hope of ever finding it   30  . A month later, I was 31   up my jacket in the same place when I saw my brown   32   diary, just where I’d left it.
33   I read through the pages and found that a   34   had written the following, “God bless you. I’m   35   like you, only I   36   keep a diary, and I’m   37   to know there are others like me. I hope things turn out well for you.”
Tears came to my eyes. It had never dawned(开始为人所明白)on me that any one could know my inner feelings and also   38   things just like the way I did.
No matter what you are like, whether you’re rich or poor, brilliant or average, attractive or 39  , there are people like you. Discard(抛弃)your fears of not measuring up(符合期望), and 40   yourself as you are.

It is interesting how NASA(美国航天航空局) chose their astronauts for landing them on the moon. They chose men   36   the ages of twenty and thirty-five. There were about fifty of them. Some were   37   air pilots, and  38   were scientists with two or three degrees. NASA telephoned each man they were going to choose, told him the plans and the   39   they might get into. They then asked him if he was willing to be trained as an astronaut, “How could any man   40   such an exciting job?” One of them said, “Dangerous? Of course. It’s dangerous   41   most exciting.”
The health and physical condition of the people was,  42  , very necessary. Only those in very good health and physical condition were   43  .
While being trained to be astronauts, they went through many   44  . They studied the star and the moon, and they also studied geology, the science of rocks. This was necessary   45   astronauts would have to look for rocks on the moon. They would try to find rocks which might help to tell the   46   of the moon. They were all   47   to fly in helicopters. There helicopters landed straight down to give them some   48   of the way the spaceship would actually land on the   49  . They were also taught the known facts about the   50   in space. They learnt about all the scientists and engineers who   51   spaceships. They visited the   52  where spaceships were repaired. I will never forget the year I was about twelve years old. My mother told us that we would not be  1  Christmas gifts because there was not enough money. I felt sad and thought, “What would I say when the other kids asked what I’d  2   ?” Just when I started to  3   that there would not be a Christmas that year, three women  4   at our house with gifts for all of us. For me they brought a doll. I felt such a sense of  5   that I would no longer have to be embarrassed when I returned to school. I wasn’t  6   . Somebody had thought enough of me to bring me a gift.
Years later, when I stood in the kitchen of my new house, thinking how I wanted to make my  7   Christmas there special and memorable, I  8   remembered the women’s visit. I decided that I wanted to create that same feeling of  9   for as many children as I could possibly reach.
So I  10 a plan and gathered forty people from my company to help. We gathered about 125 orphans (孤儿) at the Christmas party. For every child, we wrapped colorful packages filled with toys, clothes, and school supplies,  11  with a child’s name. We wanted all of them to know they were special. Before I called out their names and handed them their gifts, I   12  them that they couldn’t open their presents until every child had come forward. Finally the   13  they had been waiting for came as I called out, “One, two, three. Open your presents!” As the children opened their packages, their faces beamed and their bright smiles   14  up the room. The   15  in the room was obvious, and it wasn’t just about toys. It was a feeling –the feeling I knew from that Christmas so long ago when the women came to visit. I wasn’t forgotten. Somebody thought of me. I matter.

The young  30  at the counter asked him what they wanted.
He said, “Coffee is all, Miss.” Because that was all they could 31 .
I smiled and asked the young lady to give me two more breakfast meals on a 32  tray(托盘). I then said to the men, “ I did not do this for you. God is here  33  me to give you hope.”
When I joined my husband, he smiled at me, saying, “That is 34  God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope.”
I returned to 35  with this story in hand. I 36  “my project” and the teacher read it. Then she looked up at me and said, “Can I  37  this with the class?”
I slowly  38  and she began to read and that was when I knew that we, as human beings, share this to help people and to be 39 .
