The Guangzhou Children’s Palace and Urbanities Growing magazine last week published the results of survey about how children and parents view thankfulness. 84% of parents think that today most children do not feel a sense of thankfulness toward their parents. 90% of the parents said that the key to teaching children to be thankful toward their parents is for parents to set a good example themselves. If parents expect their kids to be more thankful to them, they themselves should be thankful toward their kids as well as toward others.
How do children understand the idea of being thankful? Most children think that being thankful means repaying those who have supported them. 44% of the children think that they should be grateful to those who once helped them or brought them happiness; 36% of the children think that if someone helped them before, then they should do something for him or her in return; and 20% said that they should be grateful to their parents for bringing them up. No kids think that being thankful was something out of date.

Honesty is one of the most treasured traditional values in China. The children are taught to be honest when they are very young. At schools the students are also instructed to be honest.
However, with the development of society, we often hear complaints about dishonesty. Reports with the theme of dishonesty often appear in the media. For example, some people try to get rich and live a comfortable life. But they do not work hard honestly, instead they cheat others. They sell something quite ordinary at a very high price. Some people's delaying paying back the loan can serve as another example. Some people, including some college students, get loan from the bank, and promise to pay within, say, 3 years. However, they don't do that.
The dishonest people sometimes can get benefit from their behaviors. So some people assert that dishonesty can bring people benefit, while honesty only makes people suffer. Is that so? Definitely not. It is always true that honesty is the best policy. It pays to be honest. The cheater selling "the treasure" mentioned above will surely be disclosed and punished some day.
On the contrary, if he had been honest, neither the buyer nor he himself would have suffered. The people who do not return money in time will sooner or later become infamous, and will not get the money from others again. If he had acted differently, he would have earned respect and trust, meanwhile, the bank would not have suffered from loss.

The use of advertisement is certainly great both to the producer and the consumer. There is a great deal of truth in the saying that good quality and honest workmanship are best advertisement. Of course, people know that the manufacturers would have done better if they have used the money for advertising in making better products to sell. But in these days of far-extended trade, there is no doubt that advertisement is necessary to make the existence of even first-class goods known. And even goods that are already well known must still be advertised. Some manufacturers are aware of the value of it, for, when they try to save money by stopping their advertisements, their sales go down at once.
But advertising has its abuses. Many advertisements are meant to cheat, and do at times cheat the public by raising the price of worthless goods. There is only one comfort in this aspect that a lying advertisement cannot sell worthless goods for long, for the people who buy it will not buy it a second time. I found that my way of learning English that I formed from middle school still works today. By listening to tapes and imitating the speakers one can improve his pronunciation within a short time. By reciting classic essays one can enrich their language as well as enlarge their vocabulary. As a non-English major， I like to set aside a certain period of time for English learning every day， usually an hour or at least half an hour. I utilize this precious time by listening to tapes and imitating their content and then reciting the short passages I like. To be frank， “Crazy English” has always been my favorite. This is definitely not intended to flatter. Instead of dividing my attention between too many materials， I’d rather concentrate on one particular resource at a time such as CE， not only because of its abundant content and native English， but also because of the benefits it has brought to me through intensive reading， listening and reciting， I believe that studying English by using these intensive methods will help you to get twice the result with half the effort.
