On hearing this, I was so   50   that I couldn't say a single word.

Last Friday my brother and I were driving home and had a fun conversation. So absorbed in our talk, my brother took a wrong turn.

It was raining. I went into a café and asked for a coffee.     36    I was waiting for my drink, I realized that there were other people in the place, but I sensed     37    . I saw their bodies, but I couldn't feel their souls     38    their souls belonged to the        39    .

My husband and I insisted that our children were old enough to clean their rooms and make their beds. But they thought   1  . My complaints, even self-justified(自有道理)  2  , were always landing on   3   ears. Very often a whole hour’s scolding would end with their   4   into tears. I felt very frustrated. I realized I needed to   5   my method of “mothering”.
One day when they were at school, I spent some time tidying their rooms. On their desks, in plain   6  , I left the cards: “Dear Bill(the other card was   7   to Sarah), your room was messy this morning and I’m sure you like it clean. Love, the Room Fairy.”   8   arriving back, the children were   9   excited to receive the little note from the Room Fairy. The next day, their rooms were fairly tidy. Sure enough, there was another note from the Room Fairy   10   for them, thanking them for their nice “gift” of a clean room and   11   asking them to play a certain violin   12  . Each day, thank-you notes would be written differently to keep the ideas   13
Sometimes the Room Fairy would propose a little   14  : “If you can finish your homework and go over your lessons before dinner, I’d like to watch a particular television program with you tonight.” Sometimes some colored markers or other little items would be left in   15   of well-done jobs the day  16  .
17   I can’t remember how long “the Room Fairy” continued leaving her love notes. When they were age appropriate, we used various versions of Post-Its (贴条). The bathroom mirror became the  18   centre of our home. Appointments, notices about visiting relatives, lesson schedules, and changes in plans could be  19  .
We all benefited from and   20   the idea of sharing reminders and daily details of life through notes. I believe the true advantage of the Room Fairy notes survives in our frequent and enjoyable communication.

Some years ago when I was in my first year in college, I heard Salome Bey sing for the first time. The moment was exciting. Salome’s   21  filled the room and brought the theater to life. I was so   22   that I decided to write an article about her.

The   28   was almost unbearable. I struggled for days   29   draft after draft. Finally I put my manuscript (手稿) into a large envelope and dropped it into a mailbox.
It didn’t take long. My manuscript   30  . How stupid of me! I thought. How could I   31   in a world of professional writers? Knowing I couldn’t   32   the rejection letter, I threw the unopened envelope into a drawer.
Five years later, I was moving to California. While   33   my apartment, I came across the unopened envelope. This time I opened it and read the editor’s letter in   34   :
Ms Profit,
Your story on Salome Bey is fantastic. Yet we need some   35   materials. Please add those and return the article immediately. We would like to   36   your story soon.

I can honestly say it was the best of times and the worst of times.I was joyfully  36  my first Child at the same time that my once-energetic mother was   37  her battle with a brain cancer.
For ten years,my courageous mother had fought, but none of the operations or other  38  had been successful. Finally, she became totally  39  unable to speak, walk, eat or dress on her own.As she grew closer and closer to death,my baby grew closer and closer to life.My biggest fear was that their lives would never  40  she and my baby could never  41  each other.
My fear seemed  42  .A few weeks before my  43  date, mother went into a deep coma(昏迷)and doctors said she would never  44  .So we brought her to her own house. As often as I could,I  45  her about the baby moving inside me.I hoped that somehow  46  inside, she knew.

“Morn,you’II have a new grandchild!”
“Yes!Yes!I know!”
Four words。four _49__  and beautiful words!
For the next tWO miracle weeks after I brought Jacob home, she gave US joy, smiling, holding Jacob and speaking to the family in complete  50  Then she quietly slipped back into a coma  51  and was finally free  52  the pain forever.
Memories of my son’s birth will always be   53  for me,but it was at this time that I learned an important truth about living.  54  both joy and sorrow are lasting only a short time, and often intertwined(相互纠缠),love has the   55  to face both. And love can last forever.

There once lived a young man who was always unhappy and complained about his poverty. One day, he went to see a fortune teller to inquire how to become      16     . The fortune teller said, "Young man, you are already wealthy now."
"Where is my wealth?" the young man asked     17    .
"It is with you. Your     18     is (are) your wealth. You use them to see this world. You use them to see all the     19    things in this world. You can read, study and learn. Your hands are your wealth. You can use them to work. You can use them to hug your beloved ones. Your     20     are your wealth. You can go to any places..." the fortune teller said.
"You call these wealth? Everyone has them," the young man said.
