Azure Warrenfeltz, a 4-year-old girl, is fluent in Japanese and Spanish. She also can 21 bits of French, German, Arabic and Italian, and she soon hopes to learn some Mandarin Chinese.
In today's globalized world, Azure is one of many young American children whose parents insist her22 include foreign languages.
"It's such a 23 environment now, you never know what you might need," says Azure's mother, Julie Warrenfeltz, who started schooling her daughter in foreign languages when she was 6 weeks old. "She couldn't 24 a violin, she couldn't stand upright, but I wanted her to do 25 ."
Not only is learning a foreign language easier for children than it is for 26 , but children who are exposed to other languages also do better in school. They are more 27 to diversity, says François Thibaut, who runs The Language Workshop for Children, which has nine schools around the East Coast.
Language study for children is based on immersion (沉浸), he says. Kids sing songs and play games to help develop language comprehension skills. When children start learning languages at birth, they have the 28 to learn many languages at once without getting 29 — because, as the brain develops, so too does the ability to separate one 30 from another.

I turned along a bush between two fields where I had seen the birds before, but on this fine day almost the first birds that I saw were winter visitors. I was 37not to see a bunting straightaway, but I went on, stopping occasionally to look at the black-thorn (黑刺李) flowers in the bush, and 38I did hear a bunting singing. Or was it? Section B
Directions: For each blank in the following passage there are 4 words or phrases marked A, B, C and D. Fill in each blank with a word or phrase that best fits the context.
It was one of the happiest times of my life. I was 29 and had just received my bachelor’s degree, graduating with 36 despite working two jobs and being a wife and mother. My parents and five-year-old son were among the 37 when I walked onto the stage at Ashland University to get my diploma. I was so excited and proud to be starting a teaching career and contributing more to my family’s happiness.
But when I got home that evening, there was a note from my husband, 38 , “I have come to get my clothes and won’t be back.” We’d been having trouble, 39 that note still came as a shock. He had emptied our bank account. We were horribly in debt. I had quit my previous jobs in the hope of finding a teaching position. 40, I was eight months pregnant.
The reality was so merciless that I was embarrassed, 41 , and angry and felt I had failed. But I had my son, and I was about to 42 a new life into the world. So 43my deep sadness, I had to go on. The next morning, I woke up, put my feet on the floor, took a deep breath, prepared breakfast, and basically did everything I always did. I used my routine to keep myself moving.
And in the seven years since, I’ve continued moving forward. I got a job as a kindergarten teacher, earned a master’s degree in education, and watched my babies grow to 12 and 44 . I certainly have never 45 to put them through this, but in retrospect (回首往事), I’m glad it happened to me when it did. It helped me grow 46, confident, and strong — things I’m now hopefully instilling in (灌输) my children. Sometimes life throws you a curve ball, hands you a lemon, or knocks you for a loop (gives you a shock). But knowing how to 47 failure can be the first step to success. This is my latest belief and strategy on how to win in the end.

Dear son,

If ever I do not want to eat, do not force me. I know well 46 I need to and when not. When my 47 legs do not allow me to walk, give me your 48, the same way I did when you gave your first 49 . Try to understand that my age is not lived but survived. Some day you will discover that, 51 my mistakes, I always wanted the 52 thing for you and that I tried to prepare the way for you. You must not feel sad, angry or impotent(无可奈何) for seeing me 53 you. You must be next to me, try to understand me and to help me as I did it when you 54 living. Help me to walk, help me to end my way with love and 55. I will pay you by a smile and by the immense love I have had always for you.
I love you, Son.
