Fashion & Beauty
Throw a clothes swap party! Dying for that sweater your friend wore the other day? Well, maybe she'll trade for that old T-shirt you have. Here's a website that helps you organize a swap party (www.swapstyle.com), or just plan your own!
Go natural with organic make-up. Applying unnatural products directly on your skin wasn't exactly what nature intended. Try switching to a line of organic make-up and cosmetics for a different way to bring out your natural beauty.
Home
Drop a brick in your toilet tank! Literally! According to the EPA, flushing makes up 30 percent of a household's water use (about three to six gallons per flush). By placing a brick in your toilet tank, you can help to conserve the amount of water used during each flush.
Wash clothes efficiently. 90 percent of the energy used in washing clothes is to heat the water. You can reduce your energy bill by washing in cold water and hanging items to dry.
Work
Print smarter. Printing and copying can be one of the most costly operations in any office. To save on ink and paper costs, print double-sided and try to fit more than one page on a sheet. More printing tips can be found here: lifehacker.com
Turn off your computer. Do you leave your computer on overnight? If so, you're using up a good amount of electricity. When you can, try turning off your computer and the power strip it's connected to. If you can't, at least shut off your monitor. Remember, screen savers don't save energy.
Transportation
Organize a carpool. There are many benefits to carpooling. You save on gas, reduce wear and tear on your car, and you get to ride in the HOV lanes. Get connected with your neighbours and co-workers to start sharing rides and check out this website for more tips: www.erideshare.com.
Lose the car, get a bike. If you live close to where you work, try taking a bike instead of driving. You'll keep in shape and save on gas!

A new hotel is set to open in a faraway village in northern Sweden, which intends to change the simple treehouse into a world—class hotel for travelers who enjoy special designs.
Treehotel, which lies in Harads about 60 km south of the Arctic Circle, will be made up of four rooms when it opens on July 17th:the Cabin, the Blue Cone, the Nest and the Mirrorcube.
Two more are due to open in October—the UFO and A Room With a View.
“Our goal in five years is to have 24 rooms from 24 different architects(建筑师),”says Treehotel co-founder Kent Lindvall, who came up with the idea along with his wife Bfitta.
The first six rooms were designed by five different architects. The Mirrorcube which stands four meters high and four meters wide has drawn widespread attention as it will be connected to a singletree.
‘‘It’s an interesting building. You cannot find anything like this in the world today. It’s really special,”says Lindvall,as he stands next to the room’s mirrored outer wall.
‘‘Everything will reflect(映照)in this—the trees, the birds, the clouds, the sun, everything. So it should be invisible nearly in the forest.’’
Lindvall says a special film will be put onto the glass which will be seen by birds。

When the musical sound rings you, you immediately reach for your pocket ready to have a chat. But although you probably use it all the time, have you ever stopped to think about the manners related to talking on the phone? If you haven’t, here are some tips to guide you.
●Always give the person you are calling plenty of time to get to the phone before you hang up.If the person who answers is not the one you want, give your name and ask if you may speak to the person you want.
●Think about the time you call people.Try not to call too early in the morning(before about 9:00)or too late at night(after about 9:30).Also try not to call at mealtimes.
●If you go by plane to visit your relatives at Christmas, remember to follow airline instructions.Cell phones must be turned off as soon as the plane doors are closed and remain so until the doors open again on arrival.
●When face to face with someone, do not talk on the phone. It is rude to be on the phone when a waiter is trying to take your order in a restaurant, or when you are returning the shoes you have just been trying on in a shop.Finish any face-to-face business before taking a call.Continuing to use the phone while nodding to the person in front of you is quite impolite.
●When in a restaurant with your friends, keep phone conversations short.Make a call only if it is important.Practise speaking in a low voice. If no one looks your way, you’ve got it.
●If you go to a theatre, a concert or a cinema, consider the other people around you.Check that your phone is “off” before you enter. If you are expecting a very important call, put your phone on “vibrate”(振动)and run for the exit as soon as you feel it.If you forget both “off” and “vibrate” and your phone rings, don’t answer it, turn it off straight away.
