The hardest lesson I had to              was to believe in myself. If I hadn't been able to do that, I would have walked with a stick for the rest of my life. "I can't use this," I responded.

The words stuck in my head.  "Roll it around! " By rolling the ball I could            where it went. This gave me an               how to achieve a goal I had thought impossible: playing baseball. At Philadelphia's Overbrook School for the Blind I invented a new kind of baseball. We called it ground ball.

It was no good trying something that I knew at the start was wildly out of reach because that only             the bitterness of failure. I would fail sometimes anyway but on the average I made            .

In Turkey people help each other with their hearts and from their hearts on a continuous basis.
Young people are the main driving engine behind the ever-growing volunteer force in Turkey. For Turkish        people it is common to be part of some kind of organization or student club on a volunteer basis, doing various activities such as exchanges, environmental action, charity work and peer education.
This trend(倾向) grew        in the late 1990s, despite the fact that civil society organizations have sometimes been viewed with disbelief by some state authorities.

Perhaps this is the reason why the core of the UNV community at UNHCR Turkey is      young people. Being a UN Volunteer with UNCHR allows us to gain the skills needed to realize our social and human development potential, but also to dedicate our time, energy and ideas to contribute to the        of UNHCR’s global strategic aims.
Being a UN Volunteer with UNHCR is an opportunity to make other people’s lives better. Working on refugee status determination has been an interesting and        learning experience. Part of the task involves carrying out extensive research on the situation and the condition of the countries the refugees(难民) come from.
Especially according to recent events in neighboring countries, and given the arrival of refugees and the increased time necessary to process the        number of applications for shelter, the contribution of UN Volunteers to UNHCR seems necessary and the impact invaluable.
I also believe that I have brought cultural diversity(多元性) to an already diverse      , where true professionals and young graduates from different nations work hard side by side to       refugees and find durable solutions for them.

It was a hot summer day. My dad and I were ready to go out for a ride on the motorcycle with my friend Katie and the dog           the phone call came, a call that made that bright, beautiful day a cold, dark,           one.
I had just put on my suit, shorts, and tank top(无袖紧身背心), and packed my bag with sunscreen and            else I would need for the day. I ran into my parents’ room to find Dad. When I saw him on the phone, he was crying. I’d never seen my dad cry before. My heart            . what possibly could have happened?
“Max, I’m so sorry,” I heard him say. That’s when it             me. I knew that Suzie had died. Max has been my dad’s best friend for years. Suzie, his daughter, had a rare disease that mainly affected her body. Her brain was OK. She knew what was             ; she knew that she had problems and was different from other kids. Once she told her dad that she wished she could die and be born in a different body. Yet although she couldn’t live a normal life, she was still happy.
When Suzie and I were little, we spent quite a bit of time together. As we grew up, we grew            . She lived in New York, and I lived in the Midwest. When Suzie was ten, she had to live in a           in Virginia. About eight months before she died, Max gave us her number at the hospital and we talked on the phone at least twice a week           the end. In a way, she lived through me. After we found out about her        , we made our plans to go to New York for the funeral. When she was alive, I sent her a Beanie Baby and she sent one back to me. I had      her another one but never had the chance to send it to her, so I took it to put in her casket(棺材).
To be honest, I learned so much from her. She gave me far more than I could ever give to her. I will never forget her or the talks we had. I now know that I must never        anything for granted, especially my health and the gift of life.

My brother and I were in Orlando Florida to witness our first Space Shuttle Launch(发射). The Discovery was       to soar at 10:14 AM on a blue sky September day. I’d seen it   42   so many times on television,       now I was only minutes away from seeing it launch. And it’s the final demonstration of the       of success: Success Takes Off Like a Rocket.
Witnessing the Take Off:
Standing close to the Space Shuttle drives home one unforgettable point — the Shuttle is the height of a 15-story building,             4.5 million pounds, and NASA is trying to lift it 200 miles       the ground. On TV the accomplishments look so much      , so much easier.
Crowds of people are standing around with you to watch the Shuttle go. The countdown begins through the small       of hundreds of portable radios all tuned(调准) to the NASA station. It’s enough to get your heart beating out of your  _  .
When time is up, the side booster rockets are lit up and the eight explosive bolts (螺栓)    . The first things you see are large white       clouds exploding away. Through the steam, you see the fire power. Then the Space Shuttle begins to inch off the pad and climb its way      . Thousands upon millions of pounds of       can hardly lift the shuttle at all. But with ever increasing ease, the shuttle __  _ and roars into the sky, headed into space at a   _  of over 17,000 mph.
It is within the first two minutes to launch the Space Shuttle that the great success lesson is     . Fact: 85% of the shuttle’s fuel is consumed within the first two minutes just to get the 15-story super structure to its orbital altitude.
And that’s exactly how success      : The first steps you take towards launching a successful career are the           and will require an enormous consumption of energy—a great big push. However,          you persist through the launch period, which can seem almost       for quite some time, everything gets easier and easier and your results get bigger and bigger.
