Have you ever not wanted to do something so badly? Well, that’s how I          about joining Madcaps, a mothers and daughters’ club assisting philanthropies (慈善事业).        , my feeling changed finally. Now I believe if you adopt an          attitude, you might just            enjoying it.
Six months ago, my mom told me the club asked us to work as            at Saint Vincent de Paul Homeless shelter. That meant I had to            in the dirty homeless shelter for at least 20 hours.
The first time we went there, a lady led us to the kitchen where we          my five fellow Madcaps classmates they also wore the same expression. Since I’m usually socially         , I had never talked with any of them earlier. Worse still, my mom was asked to help outside the kitchen, leaving me totally         to serve food with them. Soon large numbers of homeless families           in like rushing river. A little girl, around 5 years old, walked up to me. I         her a cold sandwich. She took it and joined her family quickly. As she walked away, I           she was wearing a coat, clearly too big for her, hanging            on her thin body, and couldn’t help thinking how much I had         with her. It suddenly struck me that how         I am.
After that moment I had a            of heart. Now I love Madcaps and don’t miss one meeting. I have         awkwardness when communicating and have many friends. And this year I am sure I will do more than the           20 hours of philanthropies.
So that is how I have made a         by doing one thing I don’t want to do. If you have an open
about things you can accomplish more and become a well-rounded (全面的) person.

Some years ago when I was in my first year in college, I heard Salome Bey sing for the first time. The moment was exciting. Salome’s      filled the room and brought the theater to life. I was so       that I decided to write an article about her.
I           Salome Bey, telling her I was from Essence magazine, and that I wanted to meet her to talk about her career. She       and told me to come to her studio next Tuesday. When I hung up, I was scared out of my mind. I       I was lying. I was not a writer at all and hadn’t even written a grocery list.
I interviewed Salome Bey the next Tuesday. I sat there         , taking notes and asking questions that all began with, “Can you tell me…” I soon realized that       Salome Bey was one thing, but writing a story for a national magazine was just impossible. The       was almost unbearable. I struggled for days with draft after draft.          I put my manuscript (手稿) into a large envelope and dropped it into a mailbox.
It didn’t take long. My manuscript      . How stupid of me! I thought. How could I       in a world of professional writers? Knowing I couldn’t      the rejection letter, I threw the unopened envelope into a drawer.
Five years later, I was moving to California. While       my apartment, I came across the unopened envelope. This time I opened it and read the editor’s letter in       :
Ms Profit,
Your story on Salome Bey is fantastic. Yet we need some       materials. Please add those and return the article immediately. We would like to       your story soon.
Shocked, it took me a long time to     . Fear of rejection cost me dearly. I lost at least five hundred dollars and having my article appear in a major magazine. More importantly, I lost years of       writing. Today, I have become a full – time writer. Looking back on this     , I learned a very important lesson: You can’t       to doubt yourself.

I remember as a smart child when we met with either family or friends. Someone would come up and mention my high “      ” and ask, “What are you going to be when you      ?”
Well, it started out being a teacher or a hero.       it was a fireman, artist…As I grew older my dreams of the future      . When I was in college, I was asked, “What will you major in?” Another question was      to find out what I would be when I “grew up”.
By then I had set about becoming a      programmer. So I studied and prepared for that. I was studying software full-time for much of my life. I am       that I could realize my dream that affords me the opportunity to have a positive       on someone’s life. However, for many, there is a “    ” which goes around stealing our dreams and robbing us of the       mental state to attain our          . Sometimes, the thief will come as a parent, a relative, a friend or a co-worker,     the greatest thief is just ourselves.
We find ourselves just about       the aim, and this “small” voice inside says, “You’ll never          .” “Very few have ever done this successfully.’ And on and on the “small” voice       some kind of failure.
Failure, though, is exactly how dreams are      . It is one of the most important       we have, because it teaches us      lessons. And, when we learn these lessons well, we are ready for      , which is probably just around the corner.
