There are many ways to help improve your health like eating healthy food. taking exercise and getting medical help. But the easiest and cheapest way to improve your health is just to sleep eight hours or more every night. The general sleeping rule is that the younger you are. The longer sleep you need. But regardless of(不管)age, some people need to sleep more while for some a few hours is enough.
The problem with sleep is that more and more people in the world are not sleeping enough.According to the World Health Organization over half the people in the world may be sleep﹣deprived. Having less sleep not only makes people feel tired but also causes accidents. In the United States alone, sleepy drivers cause at least 100,000 traffic accidents a year. Also sleep problems can cause medical problems such as high blood pressure(血压).
Why are so many people sleep﹣deprived? Part of the reasons may be cultural. In the American culture, people put a higher value on work than on sleep. In fact, peopele who sleep a lot are usually seen as "lazy". Also, you can sometimes hear some people say proudly that they don't have much time to sleep. they only sleep four or five hours a night. It seems that the less you sleep, the more work you'll do.
How do we teach these people to learn the value of sleep? Perhaps they may listen to the advice of Dr. James Maas. an expert(专家) in sleep. He says ,"Sleep is like a credit (信用卡) card. When you sleep less. you are only borrowing time. You always have to pay it back. The more hours you don't sleep, the more hours you should't sleep to "pay back" the hours on your 'sleep credit card.'"
For those who value work more than sleep, they should listen to what a famous person once said. "Don't think you will be doing less work because you sleep during the night. That is a foolish(愚蠢的) idea which is held by people who have no imagination. You will be able to do more."

Dear Lucy,
How are you? It has been a month since my family left Hong Kong for England and we are fine.
England is very different from Hong Kong. The weather is terrible and it rains a lot. The buildings are funny. They are in rows and not high. I love them because the rooms are much larger. I'm having a wonderful at my new school and my new home!
Mum and Dad are happy with their new jobs. But my brother Jack doesn't like moving to England because he misses his friends so much.
I've made lots of new friends at school. My teachers are really nice too and my English has improved a lot. After school, we can take part in relaxing activities such as sport, watching films or playing computer games. There's a park near the school where I often go with the other students at the weekend.
We are travelling back to Hong Kong for the summer holiday. I will visit you and bring you a present!
Write back soon!

Playing video games and getting money for it seems like a dream job for many of today's teenagers. But is it all fun and games?
Big business
Pro (professional) gaming is certainly big business. In 2017, there were more than 3,000 gaming competitions and over 10,000 professional players worldwide. A large number of people watch their competitions online, and successful gamers can get more than 1,000,000 dollars from prize money and ads. The industry is clearly thriving.
What it takes
Becoming a professional is not just about being good at playing games﹣ it also takes a lot of hard work. Some pro gamers practice for fourteen hours a day. "You need to spend much time and put all your efforts to it", says ex﹣gamer George.
Not all fun and games
It can be a difficult job as well. Stress is a big problem for gamers. Tiredness is another, and injuries(受伤) are common. Top player Hai Lam had wrist(手腕) problems after years of pro gaming. Careers(生涯)are short, and many gamers retire (退休) before they are 30 and try to find another job.

Clara Daly was sitting on an Alaska Airlines flight from Boston to Los Angeles when she heard a worried voice over the loudspeaker: "Does anyone on board know American Sign Language?"
Clara, 15 at the time, pressed the call button. An air hostess came by and explained the situation. "We have a passenger on the plane who's blind and deaf," she said. The passenger seemed to want something, but he was traveling alone and the air hostesses couldn't understand what he needed.
Clara had been studying ASL for the past year to help blind and deaf people and she knew she'd be able to finger spell into the man's palm. So she rose from her seat, walked toward the front of the plane, and knelt by the seat of Tim Cook, then Gently taking his hand, she signed, "How are you? Are you OK?" Cook asked for some water.
When it arrived, Clara returned to her seat. She came by again a bit later because he wanted to know the time. On her third visit, she stopped and stayed for a while.
"He didn't need anything. He was lonely and wanted to talk," Clara said.
So for the next hour, she talked about her family and her plans for the future. Cook told Clara how he had become blind over time and shared stories of his days as a traveling salesman. Even though he couldn't see her,she "looked attentively at his face with such kindness," a passenger reported.
"Clara was amazing," an air hostess told Alaska Airlines in an interview. "You could tell Cook was very excited to have someone he could speak to, and she was such an angel."
Cook's reply: "Best trip I've ever had."

Clothes Donation( 捐赠 ) Box
Have you ever put your old clothes into the donation box in your neighborhood? If not, you can do it right now because the clothes donation is becoming a trend( 趋势 ) in Urumqi.
"From time to time, my mother clears out the clothes which I no longer wear. You know, we teenagers are growing fast. I think it's a good way to help others. " Lin Tao, a junior student says.
"I often pick out some of my clothes which are out of style after going shopping. Then I'll put them into the donation box. " Miss Li, a pretty young lady says.
"That seems like a good idea. Some clothes in the box are quite new. People can either wear them or use themto make things such as handbags and pencil cases." Mrs. Wang, an old woman says, "Sometimes I also look through the box for some nice clothes."
However, there are some problems along with the popularity of clothes donation. Recently, a UTV reporter from Focus on the City has made a survey. Here are the results:

A person has two ears but only one mouth. That means we should listen, not just speak. The word "listen" has the same letters as the word "silent". Listening silently is a good quality that we should have. Then why is it important to be a good listener?
Listening is really helpful.
When someone is sad or angry, he wants to express his poor feelings. At this moment, we need to listen silently first until he gets calm(冷静的). Then we may have a good talk with him. Maybe it is a good way to help him out.
Listening is a kind of love.
For example, we may think our parents are always talking too much. But in fact, they do so because they are anxious about our health, study and so on. If we listen patiently, our parents will feel we care about them. A loving silence is often more powerful(有力量的)than words.
Listening is polite behavior.
Sometimes, we just want others to listen to us but forget to listen to others. In fact. That's not polite. In order to show our respect(尊重)for others, we had better listen to them first. Then we can express our ideas.
Listening sounds easy, but it's not. Every head is a world. So we should learn to listen with our ears, eyes and hearts as much as we can, and try to make ourselves
good listeners from now on.

In students' daily talks, celebrities ( 名 人 ) are usually a hot topic, including their dress, behavior, families and other personal things. Then, is it a celebrity's job(职责)to be a good role model? Please read the following students' debate.
It's a celebrity's job to be a good role model because people usually look up to stars. If a celebrity drinks and smokes, his fans will follow him because they look up to the celebrity so much. If a celebrity's lifestyle is inappropriatefor kids, then their parents should be more careful about what they let their kids see. |
A celebrity doesn't have to try to be a good role model. They are famous because they worked hard at what they love for a living. They should, however, try to make good choices for themselves, not their fans. Lots of stars have to post apology ( 道歉) letters after being caught doing bad things. It's good, but if the only reason they do is to win back their fans, it's not good. |
I think everyone should try to be a good role model, even if you are not a celebrity! You can still be a role model to your sisters and brothers, a younger neighbor, or anyone. But I think celebrities should be very good, because they are role models for so many people! |
Although it is a wonderful thing to be a good role model, that's not what the celebrities must do. They are famous because they love what they do and are good at it. Being a role model is never in the job. If the celebrity knows they are affecting the young people, they should try hard to set a good example. |
