Extreme Amazon(亚马孙之最)

    Twenty percent of all the water that goes into oceans around the world comes from one river﹣the Amazon.

    The Amazon River begins in the Andes Mountains in Peru. It travels about 6000 kilometers to the Atlantic Ocean. It is the largest river in the world. It is also the second longest. Most of the Amazon's water comes from rain. During the rainy season, parts of the river are 190 kilometers wide.

    The Amazon River goes through the world's largest rain forest. The Amazon rain forest is home to the highest number of plant and animal species(种类) on Earth. There are 2.5 million kinds of insects, such as the world's largest ant. At least 3,000 kinds, of fish, live there, and one﹣fifth of all the bird species in the world. Some of the Amazon's animals are dangerous, such as the anaconda, the largest snake in the world. But there are also gentle animals, like the sloth and the pink dolphin.

    The Amazon is very important to Earth. There are still many kinds of animals and plants there that we don't know about. If we lose the Amazon, we will lose a big part of life on Earth.

Seventy percent of our planet is covered by one huge body of seawater﹣the ocean. In 2008, the United Nations recognized(确立) June 8 as World Oceans Day. It's a day to think about the important role that the oceans play in our lives, the dangers that our oceans are facing and the action we can take to protect them.

Hi Friends! My name's Sandra and I live in Hilltown.It is in the south of England. It isn't a very big town. About 9000 people live here.

    There are about thirty shops in Hilltown and there are three supermarkets You can buy everything in the town that you need.There are two banks and a post office in Main Street.There is a police station a library ,too.

Have you ever visited the Forbidden City? This year is its 600th birthday. It is the world's largest palace and has over 17 million visitors every year. But if we traveled back to the past, we probably wouldn't be allowed inside.

    In the past, all buildings in Beijing were low except the Forbidden City. From outside,ordinary (普通的) people could only imagine what it looked like inside.

    The Forbidden City takes up 720,000 square meters in the heart of Beijing. It was built from 1406 to 1420 by the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty, the Yongle Emperor. After that, it was the living and working place of 14 emperors of the Ming Dynasty and 10 emperors of the Qing Dynasty.

    During those times, the Forbidden City was where the country's supreme power (最高权力) could be found. Emperors were born, lived, fought and died there. It saw the highs and lows of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and it plays a very important part in Chinese history.

    The cultural relics (遗物) and documents (文件) in the palace show how the royal families lived. They are still used today for historical research, as well as inspiration for literature (文学) and entertainment (娱乐).

    Bath, 97 miles west of London, is the largest city in Somerset, England. It became a World Heritage Site in 1987.

    The city got its name from the Roman Baths, which was a place for public bathing in Roman Britain. The water there is naturally heated under the ground.
