Marty was growing up. All he wanted was to do things in his way. Why did all the wolves have to do (1)e together? They ate together, played together, slept together, and hunted(猎食) together. Everywhere, every day. It was tiring.
Marty thought he could do things (2)h now, such as hunting a rabbit, hanging out, sleeping without the pack and so on. But his mom wouldn't let him try those (3)i d on his own. She always said to him, "Packs(群体) help us live."
One day, the pack was walking through a forest. Marty thought, "I'm going to go down that path(小路) and I'll have plenty to eat! I don't need you, guys!" He ran off without telling anyone. He ran for miles. He started to get (4)t , and it was getting dark. Usually, the pack would all find a place together to sleep, but Marty had no pack now. He found a small cave to sleep in. He thought, "Sleeping would be much easier with my pack by my side. If something dangerous comes, they will (5)p me."
He could hardly sleep that night. The next morning, he decided to go (6)b to the place where he'd last been together with his pack. On the way to find his pack, he smelled a deer. "Hmmmm…" Marty thought, "The pack would be happy if I brought a deer for them all." (7)S he decided to hunt on his own. He followed the deer into an open space. Marty looked around. Where was the deer? Suddenly, something charged( 猛冲) out of the trees at him! It was the deer, and those antlers( 鹿角) were sharp!!! Marty ran from it as (8)f as he could. After a while, the deer (9)s running after him. Marty rested.
Now, he felt hungry and lonely. He realized his mom was (10)r , packs did help them live. He hoped he could find his pack and work hard to help them as much as they help him.
Ray was thought to be a strange boy. One day when he was flying his kite, he said to himself, "Did anybody ever try to fly a kite at night? I think it must be very fun. But the kite can't be seen in the dark, what if I tie a light to it? That would be really good. I (1) (try) it tonight."
As soon as it was dark, he (2) (take) his kite and lantern, and went to a large field about a mile from his home. He tied the lantern to the tail of his kite. The lantern (3)
(make) of paper. The kite flew higher and higher. He tied the string( 线) to a tree, then he stood there, staring at his kite. It floated( 飘 ) high up into the air. How wonderful! While Ray (4) (enjoy) his special kite, some people in the village also saw it.
"Look! A light(5) (fly) in the sky," one person said. "It can't be a light," said a man.
"Perhaps it's a big firefly(萤火虫) ," said another.
"Maybe it's a comet(彗星),"said another man. "How strange!" said a boy.
"Let's find out what this strange light (6) (be)." the last one said. Then they went to the field.
While this was taking place, Ray, who had gotten tired of standing, was sitting behind a tree. He (7) (see) the men as they came, but they didn't see him. When they reached under the light, and saw what it was, they looked at each other and said while laughing, "There is nothing unusual (8) (happen)! This is just a trick of some naughty boys', but it (9) (fool) us all, let us keep the secret." Then they laughed again and went back to the village.
When the men had gone, Ray thought it was time for him (10) (go), so he went home, too. When his mother heard what he had done, she hardly knew whether to laugh or scold(责备), but just told him to go to bed.
