I lived on a farm with my parents and my elder brothers and sisters when I was a little boy. We had the 36 to play and run wherever we wanted to go.
We often 37 games just by pretending we were cowboys. Sometimes we played hide-and-seek. One of us would 38 and the others would come and find him. I remember one 39 I hid behind some old wood in the cottage. All was 40 . I couldn’t hear a sound, just the wind 41 . The situation became tense (紧张的) 42 the possibility of someone finding me, and the longer I 43 , the more tense I became. 44 , I heard footsteps coming down the yard. My 45 beat fast and I stood 46 , frozen like a block of ice. I saw my brother getting closer and closer. When he saw me, he laughed 47 , shouting at the top of his voice so that 48 could hear him say, “Eh, I’ve 49 our Tommy!” I can still see the 50 on his face today. Afterwards he said he didn’t think I would hide there. I shrugged my shoulders and said, “Why, it’s a good place, isn’t it?”
I don’t have any 51 of these events, just memories, as we had no camera at that time. 52 it was a long time ago, I can see them now as if they 53 yesterday.
Now I live in town on a busy street. My girls don’t have the freedom that we 54 have to run off down the road and play whatever they want. Anyway, is it 55 to let children out of sight these days?

A boy was walking home from school when he saw a large, tempting (诱人的)apple on one of the branches of an apple tree hanging out over a tall fence. The boy wasn’t much of a fruit-eater, 41a bar of chocolate if given the choice, 42 , as they say, the forbidden fruit can be tempting. Seeing the apple, the boy wanted it. The more he looked at it, the 43 he felt and the more he wanted that apple.
44 as high as he could , but even at his tallest 45 he was unable to touch it. He began to 46 up and down , as high as he could, at the 47 of each jump stretching his arms to get the apple . Still it remained out of 48 .
Not giving up , he thought , if only he had something to 49 on . Looking51 , he hoped he might find an old box , a rock , or , 52 luck , even a ladder , but it was a tidy neighborhood and there was nothing he could use .
He had tried everything he could think to do . 53 seeing any other choices , he gave up and started to walk 54 . At first he felt angry and disappointed thinking about how hungry he had become from his55 , and how he really wanted that apple . The more he 56 like this , the more unhappy he became.
57 ,the boy of our story was a pretty smart guy, even if he couldn’t always get what get he wanted .He started to say to himself .,This isn’t58 , I don’t have the apple and I’m feeling miserable as well. Back in the fifteenth century in Nuremberg lived a family with eighteen children. They were so poor that two children, who wanted to pursue their talent for 26 knew their father would never be 27 able to send either of them to Nuremberg to study at the Academy.
So they tossed (掷) a coin. Albrecht Durer, the younger, 28 the toss and went off to Nuremberg. Albert went down into the dangerous 29 and for the next four years, financed his brother, who did so well that his works were even better than those of most of his 30 . By the time he graduated, he was beginning to earn 31 fees by drawing for wealthy people. When the young artist returned home, at dinner he drank a 32 to his beloved brother for the years of 33 that had enabled him to fulfill his 34 .He said, “Albert, my blessed brother, now it is your 35 to go to Nuremberg to pursue your dream, and I will take care of you.”
With tears in his eyes, Albert held his hands close to his right cheek and said, “No, brother, I cannot go. Look... look what four years in the mines have done to my 36 !The bones in every finger have been 37 at least once. Lately I have been suffering from arthritis (关节炎) so badly in my right hand that I cannot even hold a 38 to return your toast, much less make delicate (细腻的)lines with a pen or a brush. No, brother..., for me it is too 39 .”
Deeply moved, Albrecht painstakingly drew his brother’s 40 hands with palms(手掌) together and thin fingers stretched skyward. He called his powerful drawing 41 “Hands”, to which the entire world immediately opened their hearts and later they 42 it “ the Praying Hands”.
The next time when you see a copy of that 43 creation, take a second look. Let it be your 44 , if you still need one, that no one ever makes it 45 !

One afternoon, I joined Charity Focus Folks to distribute food to homeless people. We went around a few streets in Manhattan. I was travelling back to India the next day. 16 , I took part in this activity in the afternoon. We 17 at a coffee shop with lots of 18 packed properly for distributing.
The first person we offered food cried. This was a (n) 19 moment for all of us and really 20 me. After this the food was distributed 21 with a crowd surrounding us. Our activity was over by 5:00 pm and we started back to our homes.
However, I was still feeling the need to do 22 . So I decided to buy dinner 23 myself but give it to someone more needy and 24 my dinner for the day. This was an inspiration I never had before. But somehow it 25 me.
There weren’t any beggars around for the next three or four blocks and I was 26 who I would give the food to. I found one but he 27 to take food as he needed only money. I found another person, but he went away 28 I could approach him.
But I had a feeling that 29 would come. Then I found one old lady sitting on one corner of the road. I asked her if she would like to eat something and she 30 . I purchased a large cheese pizza and cakes at a nearby supermarket and gave the entire 31 to her. The lady looked excited, opened the package and began eating at once with great 32 .
As I walked home, I felt a surge (澎湃) of 33 I had never experienced before. I didn’t feel 34 though I hadn’t eaten much the whole day. This was a unique, deep feeling, and I felt a little inspired. What I got was much more than what I 35 .

Are you a top student in your school, or at least a top one in your class? If not, you may learn something from my story.
Growing up in a poor family with uneducated parents, I was not good at my study. But a teacher changed my life. Without her, I couldn’t have 36 so much in my later career. I can still remember the very important day that has 37 my whole life.
I did so 38 in math that you may not imagine that I even couldn’t count from “ONE” to “TEN”, when I was in Grade Three.
Then the39_ day came. My father was asked to come to school to 40_ with my teacher, Ms King. You can’t imagine how angry and41_ my father was when he heard about my “excellent achievement”. He42 at me:“since you can’t even count from ‘ONE ’to ‘TEN’, what are you able to be when you 43_ up? Now, tell me!”I was scared and 44_ and didn’t know what to say and tears came immediately into my eyes.
Then the most unforgettable time in my life came. “Maybe he can be a boxing refereeone day. That45 only needs him to count from ‘ONE’ to ‘NINE’, which may
46 him well.” Ms King looked into my eyes and firmly said.
Now, I am in my forties, and can you believe it that thanks to Ms King, I am really a well-known boxing47 of WBO(World Boxing Organization),and that I do need to count only from “ONE” to “NINE”? So are still worried about your poor grades at school? Remember there will always be a place waiting for you!

I take the train into work every morning from a train station near my house. I can get to the station quite 31 because there’s a short cut(捷径) to the station. But in the summer, it can get quite smelly because of all the 32 . So I always try to 33 through it. Today I was trying to do so as usual when something made me stop for a moment. I saw the most beautiful 34 by an old woman walking in front of me with the help of a white stick.
She was short and 35 and had white hair. She was walking 36 as each step took some effort. I hadn’t specially noticed her at first, until she stopped near a rubbish bin.

Quite39 one day, I came across a real tramp. He was such a rare sight these days that I stood some distance away and watched him. He rubbed his nose with his forefinger,43a funny turn, laid a small parcel by the front gate, and began 44a sign made by a former caller. When the door opened, I saw him 47 his hat but couldn’t hear his words. The48 was very short indeed, for no sooner had he spoken a few words than the door closed fiercely in his face. I felt49 for him as he walked 50 out of the house, But just as quickly, his face lit up again and he moved quickly towards the gate. There he stopped, looked at the sign, and 51 his head seriously as if he had made a bad mistake. 52 deeply into his pockets, he produced a piece of chalk, rubbed out the53 sign and made a new one in its place. He stared at it for a moment smiling to himself, then gathered his54 , pushed back his hat and began walking towards the next house at an unhurried55 , whistling as he went along.
