South of Florida ,there are a lot of islands in the ocean. One of them is Hispaniola. Two countries share this island, Haiti makes up the western third. The Dominican Republic makes up the eastern two﹣thirds.

The Dominican Republic has an area of about 1,8000square miles and a population of about 8million. Most of these people live close to the island's coast. Most of the cities are there and so is the best farmland. Sugar sticks have been the island's most important crop for hundreds of years. Cattle(牛)are kept in the mountainous area.
