Scientists at the University of Michigan have built a robot called MABEL. MABEL is able to run at a speed of 6.8mph. This is a world record for a machine with two legs.
It took the researchers three years to get MABEL up and run to her top speed. There are still some problems, but she is thought of a huge step forward for robot﹣kind.
The makers of the robot say that science and technology can help people. Jonathan Hurst is a scientist from Oregon State University. He says scientists have done research into what MABEL can do in the future. They think that walking robots can help people who have something wrong with their legs walk again, or help people do things like a superman.
Professor Jessy Crizzle, from the University of Michigan, also points that how useful human﹣like robots can be." If you would like to send robots to search for people when a house is on fire, they can go up and down stairs, step over the baby's toys on the floor and go in places where wheels and tracks can not go."
