Later, people began to use the groundhog to make this prediction. On February 2nd, 1886. The Punxsutawney Spirit, a local newspaper, declared (宣布) February 2nd to be Groundhog Day and named a local groundhog Punxsutawney Phil. Since then the tradition has spread across the United States.
