More Machines Fewer People
Once the office was a place with many people and few machines. Today the office is full of machines, photocopy machines, fax machines, computers.
Cal Brown, the manager of a big company, thinks that machines work better than people.
“In our office, many of the office workers were very lazy,” said Cal. “They had a long rest, and went home early. 112. But machines are hardworking. They don’t have a rest and they never go home.”
Cal’s company makes robots: machines that look like people. These machines do all the work in the office. “In our office now,” said Cal, “there is only the boss and the machines. 113. The boss tells the machines what to do, and they do it. It’s fantastic!”
Cal’s machines are still very expensive. Many companies cannot buy them. So the office is still a safe place for people to work, at least for a few more years.
