One day in 1924, five men who were camping in the Cascade Mountains saw a group of huge apelike creatures coming out of the woods. They hurried back to their wooden house and locked themselves inside. While they were in, the creatures threw rocks against the house. Several hours later these strange hairy giants went back into the woods.
After the men returned to the town and told the people about their adventure,       . These were the people who remembered hearing tales about footprints of an animal that walked like a human being.
The five men, however, were not the first to have seen these creatures called Bigfoot. Long before their experience, the local Native Americans were certain that a group of apelike animals had been living in the neighboring mountain for centuries.
In 1958, some workers, who were building a road through the jungles of Northern California, often found huge footprints in the earth around their camp. Then in 1967, Roger Patterson, a man who was interested in finding Bigfoot, went into the same jungles with a friend. While riding, they were suddenly thrown off from their horses. Patterson saw a tall apelike animal standing not far away. He managed to take photos of the hairy creature before it disappeared in the jungles. When Patterson’s photos were shown to the public, not many people believed his story.
Richard Brown, an experienced hunter, discovered a similar creature. He saw the animal clearly through the telescopic lens (望远镜头) of his rifle (步枪). He said the creature looked more like a human being than an animal.
Later many other people also found deep footprints in the same area. In spite of regular reports of sightings and footprints, most experts still do not believe that Bigfoot really exists (存在).
What did the five campers do when they saw a group of apelike creatures?

A.They fought with the creatures by throwing rocks at them.
B.They ran into the woods and hid there for several hours.
C.They made a big fire to frighten the creatures away.
D.They quickly ran back into their house and locked the door.

Which of the following can be put in       ?

A.however, only a few people accepted their story
B.all the people said they had seen the animal
C.some said they were making up their own story
D.only those who had killed the creature believed them

. Who were the first to have seen these apelike creatures?

A.Some workers.
B.Richard Brown.
C.The local Native Americans.
D.Roger Patterson and his friend.

The word neighboring may mean .

A.great B.nearby
C.snowy D.tall

The BEST title for this passage would be “ ”.

A.The adventures of five campers B.The experts and Bigfoot
C.The creatures called Bigfoot D.The adventures of Bigfoot

Making a good conversation with a stranger can be difficult. Here are some ways to try if you don’t know what to do:
① Talk about a topic common to both of you. The topic can be the food or the weather. For example, “How do you like the food?” But keep it on the positive side!
“What’s keeping you busy these days?” is a good question if you are talking to a person who doesn’t have an office job.
For example, if you ask, “Where are you from?”, an interesting follow-up question might be, “What would your life be like if you still lived there?”
④ Ask getting-to-know-you questions. You can ask, “What are your favorite newspapers and magazines? What websites do you often visit?”
⑤ React (作出反应) to what a person is saying. If you are trying to make the conversation interesting, but the person never reacts, you will feel unhappy.      And if he offers some surprising information, react with surprise.
根据材料内容,从下面五个选项中选出能填入文中空缺处的最佳选项,使短文意思通顺,内容完整,并将其标号填写在下面题号后的横线上。

A.So, if the person tells a joke, even if it’s not funny, try to laugh.
B.Ask open questions that can’t be answered with one word.
C.Ask a follow-up (接下来的) question if you have asked a question that can be answered with one word.
D.The first time you meet a person isn’t a good time to complain.

E. These questions often show a hidden interest, which can help you go on with a great conversation.

At present, quite a few teens spend much time with their iPods listening to music, but a new study suggests that teens who spend too much time listening to music may be at       risk of depression (抑郁症).
The study, led by Brian, an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine,
that teens who listened to music more often had 80% higher risk of depression,        with teens who listened to music less often.
According to the study, teens who most often listened to music could listen for at least four        five hours a day.
“At this point, it’s not clear        depressed people begin to listen to more music to escape, or whether listening to large amounts of music can lead to depression, or       ,” said Brian in a statement. However, researchers found that reading books had the       result: with increase in time spent reading, teens’ risk of depression dropped 50%.
For the study, the researchers       106 teens of 7 to 17 for two months. According to the survey, music showed strong associations (联系) with       depression risk. But that doesn’t       mean that music causes depression — for some depressed teens, music may even help.
