The teacher stood before his class and was going to hand out the final exam papers. “I know how   1   you have worked to prepare for this test,” he said. “And because I know you can do it well, I am willing to offer a B to those who   2   not to take the test.”
Many students thanked the teacher and left. The teacher looked at the students left and said, “Does anyone else want to get a ‘B’? This is your last   3  .” Two more students decided to go.
Only seven students were still in the classroom. The teacher then handed out the papers. There were only three sentences on the paper: Congratulations! You have just   4   an ‘A’ in this class. Keep believing in   5  .
I never had a teacher like that, but I think it is a test that any teacher could give. Students who are not  6   in what they have learned are ‘B’ students at most.
The same is   7   in our daily life. The ‘A’ students are those who believe in what they are doing because they have   8   both successes and failures. They have got life’s lessons, not only from normal education, but from events in their   9  , and have become   10   people. You see, one should always believe in himself.

A year ago,I paid no attention to English idioms (习语), though my teacher told us the importance again and again. But soon, the importance of English idioms was shown in an amusing experience.
One day, I happened to meet an Englishman on the road, and soon we began to talk. As I was talking about how I was studying English, the foreigner seemed to be surprised. Gently shaking his head, shrugging his shoulders, he said,“You don’t say!” “You don’t say!” I was puzzled. I thought , perhaps this is not a right topic. “Well, I’d better change the topic.” So I said to him. “Well, shall we talk about the Great Wall? By the way, have you ever been there?” “Certainly, everyone back home will laugh at me if I leave China without seeing it. It was wonderful.” He was deep in thought when I began to talk like a tourist guide. “The Great Wall is one of the wonders in the world. We are very proud of it.” Soon I was interrupted (打断) again by his words: “You don’t say!” I couldn’t help asking, “Why do you ask me not to talk about it?” “Well, I didn’t ask you to do so,” he answered, greatly surprised. I said, “Didn’t you say ‘you don’t say’?” Hearing this, the Englishman laughed to tears. He began to explain, “ ‘You don’t say’ actually means ‘really!’ It is an expression of surprise. Perhaps you don’t pay attention to English idioms.” I realized I had made a fool of myself. Since then I have been more careful with idiomatic expressions. Classes resumed (恢复) Thursday for the students of a school in Newtown, Conn, where a gunman last month killed 20 children and 6 adults in the second-largest school shooting in U.S. history.
With their school still being treated as a crime scene, more than 400 students of Sandy Hook Primary School attended classes in neighbouring Monroe.
Returning students, teachers and administrators were met by a large police presence outside their new school. Several officers guarded the entrance and checked IDs of parents dropping off children.
Law-enforcement officers guarding the new school called it “the safest school in America.”
Students found the same chairs and desks, when possible. Their classroom walls were painted the same colours and hung with the same pictures. Other details, such as the location of bookshelves and cubby holes, were replicated (复制) as much as possible.

A wise man was visiting a village with his students. He found a group of family members shouting in anger at each other. He turned to his students and asked: “Why do people shout in anger at each other?”
His students thought for a while, and one of them said: “Because when we lose our calm, we shout.”
“But, why should you shout when the other person is just next to you? You can just as well tell him what you have to say in a soft manner,” said the wise man.
Students gave some other answers but none were any good.
“When two people are angry at each other, their hearts become distanced,” the wise man explained. “To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the louder they will have to shout to hear each other and cover that great distance.”
The wise man then gave an example: “What happens when two people fall in love? They don’t shout at each other but talk softly because their hearts are very close. When they love each other even more, what happens? They don’t need to talk. They only look at each other and that’s all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.”
He looked at his students and said: “So when you argue, do not let your hearts get distant. Do not say words that distance you from others. Otherwise, there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.”
What did they find when a wise man and his students were visiting a village?

A.A group of people were traveling there.
B.A group of family members were playing there.

C.They are far away from each other.

What will usually happen to two people at first when they fall in love with each other according to the passage?

A.They talk softly.
B.They shout at each other.
C.They talk more.
D.They don’t say anything to each other.

What’s the topic of the passage?

Improve Homework Habits
Do you want to make homework simpler? It can be done readily with a little guidance from specialists (专家) in this field. Oxford Learning founder and CEO Dr. Nick Whitehead, said that homework doesn’t always have to be a headache. “Homework might be an unavoidable (不可避免的) part of school, but it doesn’t have to be the boring part. With the right skills in place, students can turn homework from headache-including to trouble-free.” These steps will make an obvious difference.
Use your notebooks
The brain is able to finish great works, but it is not perfect. Students should never rely on (依赖) it to remember all school details. When a teacher assigns homework, students should write the details in their notebooks. Many schools provide notebooks because they are the best organizational tools available.
According to Whitehead, to make them effective, students need to remember to take the notebooks out of their school bags at night, open them up, and read over the night’s list.
Remove distractions (使注意力分散的事物)
Computers on, music on, text messages receiving … this is not multitasking, it’s distracting.
Whitehead says that unless students are doing research, they should turn off all electronics and focus on the task at hand for a set period of time. They’ll find that it is easier to concentrate (全神贯注) and that homework takes less time. He adds that this fact has been confirmed by studies.
Think actively
Getting homework done is the name of the game, but what happens if students are struggling with a question, or can’t work out an answer? When facing difficulties, it is wise for the student to take a small break then return to look at the problem again.
According to Whitehead, students should look up their textbooks and school notes, take a step back to ask what the particular unit is all about, and even move ahead a few questions and see if the next part can help explain a little better. If not, use the Internet.
“Don’t stare at (盯着) the question; ask how this question relates to what is being learned overall.” he says.
Get organized
Homework is as much a part of daily routine as waking up in the morning and going to bed at night, but it’s often the most disorganized part. Whitehead recommends streamlining (使合理化) the process.
“Students should keep all the homework-related things in a bin or a bucket so they don’t waste time searching for pens or rulers.” He also recommends picking the same place to do homework every night, and (when possible) completing homework at the same time each day.

                   Improve Homework Habits
As students, homework is an unavoidable part in school, but many students feel    about homework. The following     can help students turn homework from headache-including to trouble-free.
Step1:
Use your notebooks
Students shouldn’t use brains to remember all school things.    , they should use notebooks to write the details about     at school. At home they open them up, and read over the night’s list.
Step2:
Remove distractions
Computers, music, text messages, etc. may distract you from your homework.     you are not doing research, turn off all of these. Then you may find you can concentrate on homework more     and it takes less time.
Step3: Think actively
When you have     in doing your homework, it’s not wise for you to stare at the question. You should take a small break then come    to look at it again.
Step4: Get organized
Students     to streamline the process, keep all the homework-related things organized, pick the same place to do homework, and     homework at the same time each day.
