A Fun Way to Start the Day
Mrs.Bames turned off the bright camera light on the news desk.Charlie,a fifth-grade news
announeer(播音员),sat at the desk.“Our show seems to be missing something,”he said.“It seems like we should end our on a cheerful note.We should give the students to enjoy.Since the show is schoolwide,we could help everyone begin the day in a positive way.”
“What do you mean,Charlie?Don't you think the students like watching our news show and about the important events of the day?”Mrs.Barnes said jokingly.“Sure,”Charlie answered.“I'm just looking for a little something more to add to our program,”he said.
Charlie was what his mother called an“experimenter”.He was, trying to find a new way of doing something, and today Charlie wanted to think of how to really up the school with the morning news.
As Charlie walked, he hummed(哼唱)the school song. His friend Jenny met him in the hallway and, without a word, she too began humming. By the time they reached the classroom door, another girl,Lily, had them and started singing their happy song.
At first,Mrs.Barnes watched the class with a confused expression, and then with a shine in her eyes, she smiled. Her class loved to sing, and she liked sharing this with them.
Just at that moment,Charlie realized that music was the he had been looking for. That's it!Charlie thought. We can end the morning news by singing our school song.
“So what do you think?”Charlie asked heartedly.Mrs.Barnes was happy to see Charlie about his volunteer work as the school news announcer.“Let's give it a try!”Mrs.Barnes replied.“I have a feeling that it will be a way to end our morning news show and a fun way to start the day!”

Everybody has heard of fast food, but have you ever eaten slow food?Well, you might just want
to try it. Here are some Americans talking about slow food.
Karen:I’m very excited because I start to run my own business—a new snack bar called Good Food. It is special because we only have slow food. What is slow food? Mark: I’m a farmer from California. I grow food in a special way—a way that is better for the environment. I sell a lot of my food to the restaurants and snack bars in the city. And I also visit schools a lot and try to teach children about food, for some kids think that fast food is the only food.
Joshua: I had the best lunch with my friend Susi in the slow food snack bar last Thursday, I had the great tomato and cheese salad—much better than a pizza and a Coke. I was the typical“I can't”child-whatever my mother told or asked me to do was immediately followed by my cry,“I can't.”As a result, very few tasks or goals that I set out to achieve were ever completed.
One evening,my mother called me into the family room.“I want you to read this article,”Mother began.“It's about Marlo Thomas. She tells how a simple poem that she was forced to learn by her father changed her life·She went from saying‘I can't’to‘I can’·According to this article, she was able to reorganize her life and her career by learning the principles(原则)in the poem.”
I took the small magazine from Mother and looked down at the pages. There was Marlo-my idol. Beside her photo was the poem my mother had spoken of,a simple poem entitled,“I Can”.“I want you to memorize that poem,”Mother said firmly.“Mama,”I belly-ached.“I can't learn that poem. It's too long.”
“It's not too long and you can learn it.1 want you to know it perfectly by this time tomorrow,”said my mother. Unwillingly,I went back to my bedroom with the magazine. With a heavy heart,I threw myself into the bed and began my task.
“Can't is a word that is the enemy to ambition,”I began.I repeated the line.I repeated it again and again.“An enemy ambush to shatter your will…”I continued the process until I proudly recited the poem the following evening. It has now become my principle.Marlo 1 homas did not know me,but her story forever changed my life.
Saying “I can” helped me to get through the worst moments of my life: Saying “I can” encouraged me to complete things I would have otherwise seen as out of my reach. A simple poem learned at seven is a poem that will support me to seventy-seven,maybe even longer.

Every minute, someone is setting up an Internet company
somewhere, in the world. Each one is searching for the one great idea
that could make his web company click in a big way.And they are
trying all kinds of tricks to attract people towards their websites. While
some websites offer sounds, cartoons and amazing photos on screen to
make their sites almost a movie-like experience for the viewers, others provide free downloads and competitions.
A company in California,US,has decided to offer online smells to people who visit its website. That is,if a pizza image comes on screen, your nose will catch the smell of bread and cheese! All you need to do is to connect a device(设备)called“iSmell”with your computer. Some people love going to museums, while others absolutely hate it and would rather stay at home, enjoying their favorite TV shows.Increasingly, museums are being seen as outdated and boring by today's youngsters.
I have just returned to the UK after travelling around the USA.While there,I visited lots of museums I must say, museums are typically educational, either to develop knowledge gained at school in particular subjects,or to enhance knowledge of other cultures
In Chicago,we visited the world-famous Art Institute of Chicago. It was filled with paintings, drawings and sculptures by a huge variety of artists, such as Picasso,Monet,Matisse and Dali. There was a mixture of traditional and modern art, including colorful stained glass windows and abstract art.
When we were in Washington D.C.,we visited a few of the Smithsonian museums. These are all free to visit-which is great if you just want to see a few things, and not spend all day inside. The Air and Space Museum was particularly good:it had lots of aircrafts and rockets on display, interesting information and also some interactive parts. We also went to the National U. S. Holocaust 纳粹大屠杀)Memorial Museum. Naturally,it was sad to read about the horrors of this tragedy which affected so many people in World War II .However,it was also incredibly interesting to read the stories of those who survived the Holocaust,as well as those who helped others.
Last but not least,I also found the 9/11 Memorial and Museum to be of great interest. This museum is dedicated to those who lost their lives,as well as their families, when the Twin Towers in New York City were attacked by terrorists in 2001 .It tells you how the terrorists planned the attack, how they hijacked the planes, and ultimately what happened as a result of their actions.Surviving pieces of the towers are shown in the museum, alongside damaged fire engines. It was a truly thought-provoking visit, which made me value my own life that little bit more.
I think museums play an important role in preserving artifacts of historical importance for future generations.Whatever your interests, there is likely to be a museum for you. You can visit waxwork museums to see models of your favorite celebrities(and get photos with the Queen!),science museums for a more hands-on,interactive visit and so much more!Best of all,if you're ever in the UK,many of them are free!
The first paragraph tells us that .

D.some youngsters find museums boring |
Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

B.Art Institute of Chicago has a mixture of traditional and modern art. |
C.You'd better read the stories before visiting the holocaust Memorial Museum. |
D.The Air and Space Museum shows the attack 01 the twin towers by terrorists. |
What can we infer from the passage?
A.Future generations have the duty to protect museums. |
B.Visiting 9/11 Memorial and Museum is educational. |
C.Most museums around the world are free for students. |
D.Taking photos is allowed in the Smithsonian museums. |

Now I bring the book everywhere with me. .It is full of colorful thoughts or what the world is like.the world is full of strange things.Every day, there is something special and unusual just waiting to be discovered.
My book is amazing. It lets me catch all of those small things and catch them before they can go away.So far I have written a great novel and some poems.!For me,this book is more than just words on paper. It is my special wealth.

Films provide more than just entertainment.Watching foreign language films is a way to develop language skills. While watching a film, you are immersed(沉浸)in the language and can pick up new expressions that you might not find in a textbook. Some difficulties can arise when watching foreign language films-for example, unfamiliar colloquial language or strong regional accents. With this in mind, here are my tips to help you make progress in English learning while enjoying the films.
Choose a film type that you enjoy.
If you like action films, watch an action film-for example Indiana Jones. If you prefer comedies, watch a comedy-anything with Hugh Grant in always provides a laugh! It's simple enough, but if you choose something you enjoy watching in your native language, you're more likely to enjoy it in English.
Choose something that you are familiar with.
It's best to start off with something simple because in this way you have a higher chance of understanding the film.Disney films such as The Lion King,or the more recently released Tangled, are classic examples.Other cartoons such as Rango and The Lego Movie are also worth a watch. If you need to,use subtitles(字幕).Subtitles are very helpful for beginners.using subtitles in your own language is the easiest choice, but for more advanced learners why not consider using English subtitles? This way,you can match the written subtitles to the words spoken on screen. It helps you to develop your language further.
I hope you find these tips useful-if you want to recommend a film to other users, feel free to use the comments section!
