Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don't give friendship back. That is why some friendships don't last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous (宽宏大量的); be understanding.
Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you do not tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven't been honest, you may lose your friend's trust. Good friends always rely on one another to speak and act honestly.
Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You do not have to give your lunch money or your clothes. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them, you help your friend know better.
Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend's place so that you can understand the problem better.
No two friendships are exactly alike (相同的). But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friends, you must practice honesty, generosity and understanding.
Some friendships don't last long because _____.
A.there are too many people who want to make friends |
B.those who give others friendship receive friendship from others |

D.more important than anything else |
In the third paragraph, the underlined word 'they' refers to (指) _____.
A.generosity and friendship | B.generosity and sharing |
C.your ideas and feelings | D.your clothes |
The best title of this passage is _____.
A.How to Be a Friend |
B.Honesty Is the Best Policy |
C.A Friend in Need Is a Friend indeed |
D.Three Important Points in Life |
The food we eat seems to have a great effect on our health. Although science has made big steps in making food more fit to eat, it has, at the same time, made many foods unfit to eat. Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percent of human illness is related to food and forty percent of cancer is related to food as well. That food is related to illness is not a new discovery. In 1945, some researchers realized that things commonly used to keep colors in meats and other food additives (添加剂) caused cancer.
Yet, these additives remain in our food, and it is difficult to know which things on the wrappings(包装)of foods are helpful or harmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often give penicillin (青霉素) to their animals, and because of this, penicillin has been found in the milk of cows. Sometimes similar things are supplied to animals not for their health, but just to make a profit.
The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to get a higher price on the market. Although some countries have tried to control such things, the practice continues.
According to this passage, we can know _____.
A.perhaps most kinds of cancer are related to what people eat |
B.perhaps most of human illness is caused by what we eat |
C.cancer was discovered in 1945 |
D.science has made food unfit to eat |
Things that are used to keep colors in meats are _____.
A.harmful | B.useless | C.helpless | D.dangerous |
People use additives _____.
A.to make food more unfit to eat |
B.to cause cancer |
C.to change the color of the food |
D.to take off the diseases of the food |
Which of the following is NOT true?
A.Some wrappings of food are harmful. |
B.Farmers try to make more money on the market by fattening their animals. |
C."The practice continues" means "things are still going on like that". |
D.We needn't take care of what we eat. |

How to Love Your Parents ?
Even if you think that your parents are mean-spirited at times, loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling part of life. You love them for the fact that they created you, raised you, and are in part, a source of who you are. .
Tell them you love them every morning. A gentle “good morning” and “I love you” will warm a coldest heart. Remember that they brought you into this world. Without your parents, you might still wander at an unknown corner in an unknown world.
Respect them more and cherish these moments. You can use these moments to learn from them, preparing yourself for when you’re off on your own. It’s OK to get angry but angry actions don’t help you or your parents. Act calmly, cool off, write down your feelings, or talk to a friend. .
Obey their requests. It will make your attitude better and earn you more respect from them. It may seem like you are going through hell when you don’t get what you want or you have to clean. However, you had better remember they keep a roof over your head when it’s cold, raining, snowing, or too hot. Understand that parents are human beings and make mistakes. Since you can forgive your friends, why not forgive your parents?
Keep company with them. Do things with your parents like watching TV, or going somewhere with them. Listen to their old stories and learn from them. You will find they are your teachers in this way or another.
Some people simply may not be able to love their parents. Seek help if you are being abused in any way. Parents do not have a right to harm you.
A.Parents will in turn express their love to you. |
B.Forgiveness is the key. |
C.Here are some ways to love your parents. |
D.There can be realistic reasons for this, family violence for example |
E. Anyway, spend as much time with them as you can.
F. After this, share your feeling with your parents.
G. Please remember parents are as important as friends.

It would be my first Thanksgiving since my father moved to heaven, and it would also be my first Thanksgiving being away from my family. Holidays are when you can’t be with family, and I was mourning (哀悼)the of my dad and feeling sad about being from my family in Indiana. But, that sadness turned into when it hit me: I was going to have to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving myself!
That night at Dubya’s Restaurant, which was our favorite place to , I began discussing the dilemma (困境)with Jeff.“It’s too bad that this place won’t be on Thanksgiving, or we could just come here,”I said.
Dubya, the owner of the restaurant, happened to be by our table when I said those words.“You mean you expect me to for you on Thanksgiving, too?”he teased (取笑)“ Well, I guess you’ll just have to come to our since the restaurant will be closed then.”.
We’d become with Dubya and his wife, as we ate at Dubya’s twice a week; however, I didn’t think we were close enough to Thanksgiving dinner with his family. I was sure he was . But as we headed toward the door, Dubya handed Jeff a note with directions to their house and their phone number. “You’re ?” I asked “Of course,” he said.
And, two days later, we reached Dubya’s house. Everyone us. As expected, the food was marvelous but the company was even better. We truly felt that we there.
Of course, I wrote them a thank-you note the next week, but I couldn’t really into words what that Thanksgiving dinner had meant to us. I’ve never forgotten their kindness and that very Thanksgiving.
So, here’s my suggestion to you this year. If you know someone who will be dining alone on Thanksgiving, why not invite that person over to your family?
