A farmer carelessly lost an expensive gold watch in the barn on the farm, where he searched for everywhere but failed. So he put a notice on the gate of the farm: whoever finds the gold watch will be rewarded $100.
People tried their best to look for the watch in order to get the reward. However, the barn was too large and the straw in the barn was too thick. It was getting dark and they were still unable to find it. So they gave up the reward of $100 one by one.

It is true that people with better education are usually able to get better paying jobs. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don’t. It seems that the purpose of education is to make people get jobs. But this isn’t accepted by all people.
Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life to get education only for a way of living. This was probably one of the earliest reasons of education. In fact, if education is just a way of making a living, people don’t need to spend so much time in school. People can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. Even language and mathematics need not be taught in detail(详细地), either. Here it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.
Education is well-rounded and it is mainly for improving a man. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative thinking and other abilities. After that, it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of human. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and most of all take an interest in the world.
I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the main reason.
People with little education usually          .

A.spend a long time in school
B.have a good chance to get a job
C.spend the best years to choose jobs
D.have fewer chances to get a good job

The earliest education was probably to         .

A.make a man lead a better life
B.teach a man to write and read
C.make people get a way of living
D.teach people to read good books

The underlined word “well-rounded” in the passage means “            ” in Chinese.

A.圆满的 B.崭新的
C.公平的 D.全面的

It is expected that educated people will be able to             .

A.accept education as a way of living
B.take an interest in the whole world
C.develop their abilities to make plays
D.learn subjects like language and math

The passage mainly tells us that         .

A.education should make a man improve
B.people can get education in a short time
C.people should be able to get good paying jobs
D.all subjects are so important for a way of living

There are many things you can do to improve your memory. Among them are many kinds of useful ways as well as taking special care of your health.
It is important that you make yourself excited to make your memory more active. You can do this by doing some new activities and by changing your daily habits. Learning a new skill helps your brain (大脑) to develop. When trying to remember something, you should pay special attention to the most important things about it. Do not allow other thoughts to enter your mind because this will reduce your chances of making right memories.
An excellent way to help memory is to connect information with pictures. Try to see the pictures in your mind. Taking notes and keeping a diary will also be helpful.
Healthy food and plenty of vitamins are necessary for your memory to work well. Drinking a lot of water also helps keep your memory. You must allow your brain to have enough sleep and rest. When you are asleep, your brain stores memory. Not enough sleep can cause problems with storing information. And being tired will also stop you from being able to think clearly and well.
In order to keep your mind on your work, you must be free from worry. Generally keeping fit and normal health checks are both important as well—not just for improving your memory.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。(共5小题,每小题2分,计10分)
Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true.
Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here are some advice for you to bridge the generation gap (代沟).
Don’t argue (争辩) with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t understand your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express yourself well if you are angry. Go someplace to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.
Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.
Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect (尊敬) to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.
Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values can help them see your purposes in life.
A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try!
Answer the following questions with No more than 6words.
How many pieces of advice does the writer give us to bridge the generation gap?___________
What kind of children have a communication problem with their parents?___________
What can you try if you think you can’t speak to your parents at the moment?_____________
How can you keep your relationship between your parents?________________________
What can make you a better and happier person.or the passage is?______________________

Recently some houses in our community(社区) have been broken into. I would like to give you some s       about how to prevent from stealing.
First, let’s talk about lighting. We should turn on the o     lights at night. Inside the house, it’s a good i  to put automatic timers (自动定时器) on lights. When you are out, it will s   look like someone is at home. If you live in a flat b     , make sure that there’s good lighting in the garage(车库) and in the hallways.
Next, let’s talk about l  . First of all, cheap locks are not safe. You should buy s       locks to lock your doors and windows. R   to lock your doors and windows, even when you leave for just a minute. Did you know that half of the thieves break in t       unlocked doors and windows?
My next suggestion is not to keep lots of money in the house. It’s wise to put your money in a bank. You should put m  on your other valuables, like television, computers and cameras, so that the police can return them to you if they are found.
Believe it or not, if you follow all of these suggestions above, your house will be safer.
